Cogs in the Machine.
I like the Daily Paul, I really do. This, to me, is a cutting-edge place for real debate, real news, 24/7.
It is also a place to promote Ron Paul... someone whom I personally agree with more than any other politician on the planet that I am aware of. So I, in my normal day, plug him and the movement when and where I can.
However....
I'm tired of the whining and crying on here about military members, past, present, future. Now, as I understand it, Ron Paul (the guy this site is about) is a veteran... did USAF time. He believes in a strong military, according to, well, himself in the primary debates and a thousand other sources. Hell, he believes in political assassinations and the taking of bounty (Letters of Marque). He does not believe in unjust wars... I am with him on all of this. I think where we are at currently in the world militarily is a travesty, unconstitutional to the extreme.
That the majority on here (including Mike, the owner) seem to think that the problem of war is the fault of the soldier just baffles me.
I've tried to deal with it in my head since last year when the same crap happened on here with Veteran's day.... everyone doubting, dissing military members, veterans, etc. I don't need to deal with it anymore because I found my answer.
You here at the DP are just another cog in the machine. You see, blaming the soldier does not fix the problem.. it just excludes yourself from it. From the viewpoint of someone that has served, you just alienate yourself from me twofold... first off, you're too big a pussy to put your money where your mouth is when it comes to REALLY serving your country, and secondly by paying for the wars in the first place. Yes, tax slaves, you.
After all, if you were truly upset about ~senseless~ wars, why do you fund them? Why do you keep putting politicians in place that keep the wars going? Why can't you take the time to take any personal responsibility for that?
It is a lot easier to you to place the blame on the soldier, the one that sacrifices themselves willingly for what very well may be an illusion, but it is the only one we have that we think is worth dying for. As opposed to your illusion of peaceful protest making a damn difference in a world where the threat of violence starts when you leave your house in the morning.
You are a cog in the machine... and the best that you can do is blame another. Blame the soldier. You might as well blame the janitor at JP Morgan-Chase for screwing us all over.
And before you point out that he could work somewhere else.... you are funding the wars. You could stop doing that.
But that would take, again, personal responsibility.
You may want to reframe your ideals about people in the military.
Because they are just that... people.

For what it's worth...
All of us don't feel that way.
I agree with your sentiment...
concerning military, maybe not the people of the DP, but I can empathise with your frustration. The situation in this nation is that the people have forgotten that they are the power in this nation, this nation of them, us, you and me. Why does our Congress look away when the President and his staff conduct unapproved and illegal wars? They look away because we let them. Respect is something you earn. Life, Liberty and happiness require it, and we have lost our in the government's eyes. They incorporate the political governing body and contract with us to give up our rights. If they can pull that scam, why would they respect us? We are being abused because of our own inaction to stand up to our elected officials. They are our servants, why do we insist in playing puppet? In this nation, if you are not defending the national borders in a war, then you are a citizen fighting to keep the government within it's proper jurisdiction. You may not be military, but you are still in a war - the war of mankind trying to live lives in this world. We happen to be living in a modern, "technological" society, and if you want I'm sure that you could still find somewhere to live where no one ever questioned your individual sovereignty because ther'd be no one ther to question it. But, here we are. By choice, and unprepared to reclaim the Liberty we believe we have. But do we BELIEVE that it is ours? As a people we do not act like it. Through ignorance, carelessness, greed, sheer numbers and many other countless motives we fail to make a reality of our "faith" in Liberty.
And Devon here's where I part ways...that is changing. Slowly, and with it comes a mass of frustration. The way a scab itches because there is healing taking place under its cover, so too is America as a nation of people beginning to itch, and twitch, respond to some healing. We are proof of that. We show up here and try to practice our wit and wisdom. We banter and battle, but I have to believe that every day all of us are out there trying to spread the word. And that is frustrating. We are beginning to understand the problems, and they are (still in a way our growing selves, our learning selves) the people of the nation. We are on the back end of a massive mule, learning its ways and learning how to motivate it. We are an army of sorts and we cannot destroy our brother, we must raise him up. If only one lesson is learned it is that without all the people of the nation we cannot truly mount a real revolution. So our enemy is our brother - the "powers that be" would wish that yo did not know that you are fighting a civil war, a self destruction. That is why the "love" is highlighted in the R3volution...where is our "love"ly revolution, lost in bickering? If we are to argue, and fluster let it be in march to the next battle, in the move to the next victory. The DP is a foxhole on the front lines. We see our fellow enlistees everyday, read their thoughts and put to them ours.
Among us here are some extremely frustrated with the military's actions. With their acting contrary to knowledge and law. Well, Devon you hit it squarely on the head. They too are people. I listen to Alex Jones a great deal. My opinion of him is of little consequence to this discussion, as is anyone else's (this ain't a Jones thread), but I want to tell you two important things that he reminds listeners of always - do not get lost in a paradigm, or dualistic model where we wage civil war among ourselves as a nation of people, and continually reach out to police and military in an effort to help educate the unknowing and support those who do. To that I'd remind all of the DP that the civilians in this nation are an army against tyranny. WE are to protect our military from MISUSE,and we are not accomplishing that task. Liberty by nature is the well spring of "checks and balances". Our military defends us, and we them. That is one we've fallen down on as a people.
Let's raise up and remedy that situation; let us defend our nation against it's enemies foreign and domestic. I think we have a good idea of who they really are. They are not the people, but the smarmy politico-corporate-finance thieves and liars.
