2012 already? GOP wannabes jockeying early
Such exciting candidates!
WASHINGTON – Sarah Palin is embarking on a book tour. Tim Pawlenty is building a national political operation. Mitt Romney is weighing in on the recession.
They're all jockeying for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination — even if they won't say so.
Make no mistake: At least a half-dozen Republicans are in the early stages of campaigning for the chance to challenge President Barack Obama in his expected re-election race.
Ultimately, some may decide against running. But, at this point, they're taking steps to position themselves for the GOP nomination fight — and that means courting conservatives critical in primaries, proving they can take on a popular incumbent president and painting a vision for a wayward GOP.
And, of course, gauging their relative strength, visiting early primary states and refusing to rule out official bids.
"It's way too soon" to talk 2012, former New York Gov. George Pataki demurred last week, sounding like a stream of other Republicans trekking through Iowa, while he spoke at a GOP fundraiser for the 2010 midterm election season.
This early, White House aspirants have the advantage of operating a bit outside the media glare. But Washington insiders do notice unforced errors. And while missteps may not hurt them with the public, flubs can hamper them in the long-term hunt for staff, fundraisers and endorsements by raising questions of readiness.

just so rudy stays out of it
T paw. Is going to be the establishment choice I bet...yuk
if that's the list then i will be sitting this one out.
=)
Bleah, Charlie Brown!
This morning's news: Governor Palin to speak at the Sierra-Cascade Logging Conference in Redding on Feb. 8. Whoopdee-doo.
I have retooled my Ron Paul 2008 buttons to read 2012 and am wearing them alongside my "Don't Tread on Me" badges whenever I go out. I am thinking about turning my double garage doors into Ron Paul signs (they face the street) and the retooled 2008 signs are in the windows.
You folks along the I-5 corridor between Washington and northern California with the huge Ron Paul signs: change the date, please! And whoever you are just south of Roseburg, Oregon with the "America WAKE UP" sign, please add a Ron Paul 2012 to it.
Johnson
I would hate to see Johnson divide the Paul movement in two halves.
I think Paul should be first line if he wants to run again, and if Paul doesn't want to then maybe Johnson.
for a free market of ideas?
just think two people signing the freedom tune is better than one...its a long way till a vote is cast.
more choices are almost always better, maybe it will take rp up another level w/some competing message. You never know.
I am all for paul, but Johnson may have more mainstream appeal...on the flip side i saw Johnson's speech at the rally for the republic and it was close to boring...well written just no delivery.
I'm sure the Republican
I'm sure the Republican primary is going to have at least 5 candidates. Ron or Gary for sure, but not together and I think that they would endorse the other (or they might run aganist each other in the early primaries but later on either one would endorse the other). Huckabee, Romney, Palin and Pawlentey would fill the field.
It is too soon
but right now I'd be almost willing to bet Mitt Romney will be the republican presidential nominee in 2012.
I would be willing to bet that romulin wont even run
the 2008 campaign was a financial disaster for him losing something like 40 million of his own money in an attempt to hedge a stockmarket bet to bolster his own campaign. His sons are not very cool on the idea anymore of losing their inheritance. The more neo-cons who join the race the better. They will divide thenselves while the libertarians will stay together. Also remember the dems will not be holding primaries and WHO is the dem favorite Republican. I have heard many democrats say the Good Doctor is their favorite Republican.
I think it'll be Palin
this "Rogue" stuff.... and the APPEARANCE of the party not liking her are, I believe all designed to get the frustrated 9/12 people to think they have WON a victory by getting Palin instead of the "old guard". I think it has been planned since they became terrified of the Ron Paul Revolution. I think that's why they chose her as McCain's running mate. It is ALLLLLLLL to diffuse our growing popularity. If they get Palin they will think they have their own Revolution, and it will take the wind out of the sails of TRUE liberty candidates like Ron Paul. And they can keep their war too!
I actually have a bet with my daughter-in-law on this. We'll see.

It wouldn't surprise me
She certainly gets the media attention, even though it is negative, it's not like she's being marginalized like Ron Paul. This certainly fits in with my theory Obama is destined to be a two term president/puppet, so the republicans will know to run someone unelectable against him. I wonder if she'll choose Mitt Romney as veep?
palin tends to have many problems of her own
one being she cant cant even give a decent interview without looking like a total hillbilly. The other being her very embarrassing personal life, and a son inlaw that willing to hang her out to dry No the biggest obsticle is still huckasmuck and the far right.I foresee [if Dr Paul decides to run] is a battle between the libertarians and the moral majority which I believe neither to be very appealing to the mainstream gop
Come to Kentucky and call me a hillbilly.
You need to save your bigotry.
Are you saying
Ron Paul has a shot at being the next republican presidential nominee? That's a pleasant fantasy. I think despite his currently plummeting approval ratings, Barack Obama is destined to be a two term president because he's such a good puppet. The republicans will run someone even faker than Obama because they know they're not supposed to win, and Romney certainly fits the bill.
of course I believe we have a shot to win
if i didnt I wouldnt even be here .Who would have believed only a couple of months ago that Rand would be leading in the Kentucky polls right now
If he runs again
I'll do everything I can to support Ron Paul, but I'll also be fighting against the same extreme opposition the republican party threw at us last time. We all will. What makes you think next time we can beat it?
Although the age issue is
Although the age issue is huge, the neo-con voters are running out of excuses to not support RP.
Ventura 2012
Yes
It's HUGE. I wish he could be ten years younger.
well ive already laid out one strategy above
getting the dems to jump party lines like the repubs did when they voted for broomhilda in 08 but problbly the main differance is how well we do in 2010 will depend on how well we do in 2012
I agree. He's probably the only one who isn't a complete
laughing-stock.
