...Colonel John Todd. He fought at the Battle of Point Pleasant, which many consider to be the first battle in the Revolutionary War. He was later appointed by Patrick Henry to be lieutenant of Illinois (then a county of Virginia), and died at the Battle of Blue Licks (one of the last battles of the Revolutionary War). His lieutenant Colonel in that battle was none other than Daniel Boone.

Recently I came across his journal. While reading it, I started to feel a very strong, very uncomfortable feeling creep upon me. I immediately pin pointed the feeling as basically being guilt and shame. I would not want to have to explain to my blood ancestor what we have let happen to the free Republic that he died creating.

I can literally hear his words echoing in my head. It's probably just my imagination, but it seems like he's furious and shocked. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I could start with the wars we're fighting. At that point he'd probably demand an explanation for the President being allowed to wage war without a declaration. And I have no clue how I'd explain the Patriot Act to him, or the Federal Reserve, or Guantanamo Bay, or the 16th Amendment, or the lack of any State militias, or the healthcare bill, or the confiscation of arms during Hurricane Katrina, or really anything at all that has been done by Congress or President Obama or President Bush.

I feel like we've let him down, and I don't have a good excuse.
