He has to look or seem somewhat mainstream, don't you think him and his dad have talked about this. Being Ron Paul does not get you elected, being a neocon, but having the mindset of Ron Paul does. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions about how he feels about "enemy combatants". We have to look somewhat like the RINO's. Keep your faith, and hold on to your patience. We all know his true intentions, for now, he has to fit the bill, so everyone relax. We are playing a chess match right now, Rand is doing it the right way, which is the way to WIN.

but, as a community of opinionated freedom-loving individuals, you can count on us dissenting to at least some of his policies.
heck, there has even been lively debate over ron paul's stances on the "basket commodity," and "pork barrel spending" policies.

i strongly believe honesty and integrity is the only path.

I don't hope for anything any more except what is right in front
of my face. I know Dr. Paul knows how to become president, but last time suddenly, he was out. He didn't do a strong endorsement even. Now I don't think there is a hidden plan to surge ahead.

(or one of them) was a previous politico who said something to the effect of "What good is it to get elected if you don't stand for anything?"

freedom worker you are. But we can't read Rand's mind. I have to judge what comes out of a candidate's mouth. To support anyone I must assume he/she is telling the truth, not playing some secret game.
Making insincere statement just to win is the Bush/Obama way. We don't need any more of that.
I guess I'm really more dedicated to the role of truthful education as political process, the way Ron does it, than to the gamesmanship of trying to elect sorta kinda semi-liberty oriented candidates who surprise and disappoint by ending up mainstream after all.

I also appreciate all you do for liberty. If we don't start gaining ground though, it may very well become very bad here, very soon. They cover every angle we try to take the truthful way, the happy way. I live my life with honesty and truth, even if the lie would have gotten me further, and the world is pretty full of corruption. Sometimes we have to step into darkness to bring out the light, sometimes we have to shake hands with the monsters to bring forth the truth. This, is the first thing Rand's said that I really disagree with. The fact is, with-out a trial we don't KNOW if they're terrorists or not.
If, after they've been determined to be terrorists, then I can agree that -- but they haven't yet.
You know what? This is a real minor issue.
He wants to bring the troops home from Iraq. He's opposed to the Patriot Act. He's a freaking DOVE compared to his opponent.
He's certainly miles more fiscally conservative then his opponent.
I know we all hate the lessor of two evils argument. But seriously. If Rand is only 1% evil, and Grayson is 85% evil, I'm going to root and support Rand Paul.
This is a very different race from typical ones where they're both about the same amount evil.
The other issue is that, Rand would actually force declarations of war, Rand would still filibuster the military conflicts that lead to these kinds of messes -- even if he DID support a war. What we do NOW with these people is only messy, because there was no official parameters of war that an actual declaration would have designated.
Rand needs our help.
WE need a person in the SENATE who will Filibuster all these bad bills.
Rand is miles and miles superior in ideology and determination then anybody else in the Senate. We need him!
And, just for that, I'm sending him $100 on BOTH the Bailout Ball II (11th) and the 16th.

I agree with what you say, that Rand is a dove compared to Trey. Who would we rather see win, Trey or Rand? Rand is not a perfect person or even a carbon copy of his father. There will be issues here and there peopel will disagree with him on. This Guantanamo issue may get some of us nervous, upset, etc. but all things considered I think the obvious answer is Rand would still be a far better senator than Trey. I say give him a chance, lets watch his voting record closely when he gets in, and see how he does. I know watching voting records can be tricky and hard to understand sometimes, especially with people like Ron Paul when he votes against something that the average person thinks is a good thing(like the Rosa Parks medal), but when you look deeper at the real reason why they voted against or for something, it makes sense as to why they voted that way.
Unfortunately, it's NOT a minor issue.

But Furlough, this Guantanamo/Constitutional protection/military tribunal/Afghanistan war stuff is not trivial, or petty.
You say I know who Rand is, but if what I've read tonight is how he really feels about these things, then I guess maybe I don't know who he is.
As far as what is being described in the OP, though, I'm not so sure based on what Rand said about not being afraid not to be elected.
We don't need to give him a reputation of being a game player if it's not true.
