Holy Crap! Schools... WTH is wrong here

0 votes

I did two 3-hour health screenings at schools this week and I am not even exaggerating.... when I asked the teachers what they taught, about 1/3 said they were special ed teachers

What the hell? What has happened over the last 30 years to these kids?

When I was in elementary school, there was one LD class and it had about 10 kids in it including the hearing and visually impaired.
Now every school has a dozen staff especially for these kids.

Is it the vaccines? Is it all the drugs? Is it because moms aren't staying home anymore so these kids have to go to school when they may have been homeschooled before?

I don't know, but I found it sad and disturbing

I have 2 special ed kids who

I have 2 special ed kids who got there as a result of vaccines. There are several forces at work here. Firstly, the special ed population is exploding because of the ongoing rise in autism and pdd. Recently I heard the figure as low as 1/68.

Secondly, the law states that special needs children need to be educated in the "least restrictive environment". This means that where they were once schooled in separate schools among only special needs children the push is now to mainstream them into regular classrooms wherever feasible and to bring in accommodations and aides when necessary. Some children do still go to special facilities, and some are inappropriately placed in typical school settings, while others are appropriately placed in typical settings.

Don't be surprised when the numbers increase.

Remember that

it's not 1/3 of the students that are in special ed. Special ed. occurs with much smaller class sizes, some even one-on-one.

Still, a lot of kids are probably being sucked into a tax money scam.

I was going to have my son evaluated, but he suddenly improved. One thing that freaked me out was how fiercely money was being thrown at me to have him evaluated. Now that I'm not going to put him through that anymore, I'm worried there is enough push to spend this special needs funding that someone who has a budget to spend is going to make trouble for me for not getting him evaluated.

Vaccines are the main

the special ed classes

get federal money. They are the only classes that get federal money. Also because they get federal money many of the kids are required to have a helper, for at least part of the day.

Schools

Teachers are now teachers, coaches, mentors, friends, mom's, dads, therapists, counselors.....etc....etc.

Like it or not, but the schools serve an important day care need (if nothing else and if you don't support current curriculum choices). Teachers would need to make much more money as babysitters rather than having to teach...or do you want millions of unsupervised teens and younger kids mulling around not even learning the basic skills our society expects.

One of the biggest problems in education is that the people who actually need to do the work (kids) aren't really required to do it. (social promotion, if you don't know what it is...look it up...if you can read it thank a teacher) Imaging how effective the police would be if they couldn't ticket or arrest in trying to stop crime. Take speeding for example, if all the police could do is stop you and tell you to slow down (and if you could decide not to stop if you saw the officer behind you with lights on) how effective would police be in stopping speeding? This is the problem teachers face. They can tell students to do the work, plead and try to convince, but beyond failing the student there isn't anything the teacher can do to MAKE your kid learn (especially if you don't care about their grades). Administrators also do not care about why students are failing, they just push teachers to raise their passing rates.

Personally, I would make a test a requirement for moving from 3rd grade (on reading and addition and subtraction) to 4th grade, another to advance out of 6th grade (reading and basic math skills) and yet another to move from 9th to 10th grade (Algebra, government and again reading). A passing score on this test should not only allow movement beyond the 9th grade, it should also be tied to getting a driving permit (I know I don't want kids who don't understand movement and who can't read behind the wheel of a 2000+ lb machine travelling 70 mph!)

Lastly, schools should be out of the job of dealing with chronically delinquent students. These kids will likely end up in the criminal justice system sooner rather than later, get em printed and start tracking their behavior early. I'm betting if parents of these kids are dragged into court earlier they might look for ways to solve their little progeny's problems rather than threatening the schools looking for more specialists at the school to try to solve their kids problems.

one more thing.....stop offering to immunize kids at school...The amish don't do this and if you're not convinced about vaccines and autism, check out the incidence of autism among the amish.

No. The biggest problem in "education"

is that the government has reduced the populace to a level of poverty so both parents need to work full time. If the dollar hadn't been depreciated over the past century families could get by on one income with one stay-at-home. Or if both parents chose to work, they could afford child care and tutoring.
Kids today are socialized by peers in a kind of Lord of the Flies environment with teachers and school guards and drug-administering caretakers trying desperately to keep a semblance of order in too-big schools and students who are prisoners of the establishment system. Many don't want to be in school, but they have no civil right to choose.
When I was a student teacher, the biggest issue was keeping a bit of order so those few students motivated to learn could concentrate.

Control freak much...

The only reason the police even have the ability to infringe upon our right to travel is because the Corporate Government owns our car and we give give up our rights through registration and licensing...

The police only have one job to do: To apprehend a person that has infringed upon another person's life, liberty, or property. PERIOD. That's it..it's not a tough job.

If cops are doing anything but their one and only job then they are just an armed thug criminals....and that includes issuing speeding tickets(who's the injured party?...only the person whose rights were infringed upon by the pig)

Gov't schools are not that important to learning. But they sure do a good job producing ignorant little welfare/warfare statists that look to the Gov't as their mommy and protector.

Modern Police are like Modern Doctors

Police don't really stop crime, they just progress the system once the crime has occurred (when second count, the police at at least minutes away...told to me by a police officer years ago) Modern Doctors don't cure disease anymore either, they just help people cope with the symptoms (and progress the "health care" system).

Teachers at least try to still teach, problem here is that modern society is trying to prevent these people from really accomplishing what they are supposed to do (like the previous examples).

Vaccinations

have a lot to do with it. Here are four links that explain why. It is a tragedy and foretells a bleak future for this country if we don't stop it.

the VACCINES.

It's because school sucks

It's because school sucks and kids have no desire to learn the crap they spew.

So when kids give up, adults seem to believe that they have learning disabilities and need special classes.

If we could get to the root of the problem, maybe we could fix the problem.

School is a joke. It's a waste of time. The junk learned is rarely ever used in the real world.

Can you do more research?

I think you should collect more data and publish it as a story.

I think there's allot of good writers around here, and we are not getting in the game. Like this article right here.

I see Huffington Post is making grim a "rising star" reporter riding on Greyson's tailcoats, and getting support from RP supporters becfause Grim said Ron Paul... we need to be making out own Grims..

Does a story like this go to a Grim? How does a story like this break out of DP with intergrity and respect?

Funding

I think they get more cash if they call someone special.

I agree with you completely!

It is all about the funding, not only does the school get added funds, they get enough to add "teachers aides" to the classrooms so there are basically two teachers in them, and with "no child left behind" the special ones are in the same class as all the others. They also push to get these kids on ridalin and stuff, mostly elementary school age boys, and the majority do not need these drugs, yet are put on them anyway, just for being active young kids. These are facts, not only has this happened with people I know, I also know a school psychologist that has confirmed this and she advocates against these practices.

"Truth is treason in the Empire of Lies."

I think it is some of all the things you mentioned.

When my two sons were in school I had told the teacher I was thinking about going back to work. The teacher advised against it. She said that there was a REAL difference in behavior when there was no parent at home. I took her advice and stayed home, it was a struggle but we got by. I remember my son wanting stuff and I said "Well, I will let you decide. If you want all that stuff I will have to go to work and not be home." He said mom, "I want you home". We didn't join sports, or have a lot of stuff but I played with them and we created stuff out of Oatmeal boxes and shoe boxes.

I have to say that raising my sons was the most fun I ever had. It was hard but I LOVED IT.

I am not trying to put down anyone. This was my experience and I am sure everyone's is different.

We've had massive school lay-offs

because we are so in the Red in our school district. It seems like the LD and ESL teachers are the only ones that are safe. Tenured or not.

D. All of the above

I wasnt allowed to watch TV without permission. I could only watch PBS on top of that. Now I dont even own an antenna, let alone cable. It rots peoples minds and I cant stand the dumbing down of my intellect.

My daughter doesnt mind. I allow her to watch movies but we remain active...
