Question: Why have voting? Why have representatives?

Why not just treat government like a business? If it does a good job, sign up and pay for its services. If it does a bad job stop doing business with it. It's called the profit and loss system.
Why bother with the clumsy collectivist system of voting in representatives every so many years? Government would work better if were a business that we could just stop patronizing if it started doing stuff that we didn't like.
