I read Jakes take on it and he is much smarter than I am... but I am still confused? No action threads/ discussions on this for the last two days/!! ?WTF? We are down to the wire on this and I am confused even after reading Jakes commentary because I am getting no response /input here on DP and on this post ( read down you will see! ) Are we that ADD and self absorbed that we are going to drop the ball on a concerted effort aflter all this energy and time.. Ron Pauls efforts for the last 25 years!! ?? Discharge petition or stand alone vote and why is no one talking about this moving forward from committee?? We are down to the wire after all this and no one seems to have the clear action plan going forward! We very have little time until Dec when this comes to the floor again!!

.... so I suppose it's just up to the floor vote. yikes. RP did state its really unlikely he will vote for it, but somehow I doubt 217 others will do the same.

Discharge petition explained
Dear Liberty Belle -
There are really just 2 ways for a bill to get to the House floor for a vote (unless Pelosi likes it :)
1) Approval by the 71-member committee or
2) A discharge petition signed by the majority of House member (needs 218, there are 313 co-sponsors but there is no guarantee each co-sponsor will sign the discharge petition)
HR 1207 was not approved via #1 as a "stand-alone" bill, it was added into another bill HR 3996 (the monstrosity) that will move to the House floor as an amendment.
My thoughts are that is very unlikely #1 will ever occur, but at least RP tried. While Paul is correct in that a discharge petition is very difficult to obtain - 218 of the 313 co-sponsors need to sign it. Therefore he patiently waited until it hit committee, and now its obvious what will happen - my bet is that the amendment gets wiped out before it passes in HR 3996, but even if it passes the FED has 12 months before needing to comply - and likely will avoid the audit somehow anyways.
While the discharge may fail, similar to the motion Paul made to declare war on Iraq, at least someone tried to do SOMETHING. Maybe C4L could picket all the co-sponsor's offices until they sign :)
Including the audit text in HR 3996 is just the usual "lesser of two evils" nonsense. It should not compel any member of Congress to vote for it (in my opinion).
For the record, the committee structure is ridiculous, but is reality. Whichever party is in power can completely silence the other one - which is what usually happens.
