Please school me on purchasing gold
Submitted by homeschoolmom on Sat, 11/21/2009 - 21:14
In February 2008, I bought a couple of pre 1930's gold dollars. I would like to buy more gold now, before the prices get higher. I am open to your expert advice. Do I want to buy more of the older pieces or do you suggest the newer dollar pieces which I understand can be confiscated by the government? I am overwhelmed at how educated many of you are in this field. In each case, where would you suggest I buy from? Thanks so much in advance for your input.

Are you sure you have a Gold dollar?
My coin book says 1889 was the last time a very small official American Gold coin was minted, and the book doesn't say it's a dollar.
It weighs 1.672 grams { 31.1034 grams to the ounce }
My book calls it a Gold Indian head-Type 3 coin.
My book has a $2.50 Gold coin a $3.00 Gold coin and a $5.00 Gold coin a $10.00 Gold coin and a $20.00 Gold coin, all very valuable to a coin collector.
I suggest you buy a recent copy of coin prices magazine to estimate the value of your coins.
Numismatic { collectors } coins have a limited resale market, because only sophisticated coin collectors will buy them.
{ I've bought these } Krugerrand coins have no stamped value { Valued by weight } and come in 4 sizes:
