Carol to a concerned supporter on Facebook: "You don't have to worry about Rand becoming a neocon..he is far too intelligent and informed for that."

This should say a lot...
I'm one of the people who is distrustful of Beck, Palin, etc. We've made the mistake time and again throughout history of electing the wrong people - like the anti-war folks elected Woodrow Wilson, and conservatives elected Reagan (even Ron made this mistake!) So I'm totally there on being cautious.
However, despite being so skeptical, Rand is someone I don't have doubts about. Not only do his parents believe in him, but if you've met him you'd know he is a reasonable fellow like his Dad.
Rands silence says a lot more
His silence is deafening, but he has no way out and he knows it. Either he stands by his statements and confirms our fears, or he flip-flops by backing away, or possibly tries to straddle the fence.
I couldn't care less what he had to say, he's already revealed himself.
Maybe Barbara Bush should get on FaceBook and correct those of us who think lil' George is a neo-con too. Pffft
Issues
I will agree that Gitmo is a problem with no easy solution. As long as the interrogation stops and those folks get a fair trial ASAP, I'm okay with it. There is no perfect answer.
But declaring war on Afghanistan now? Did Rand actually say that? I have a big problem with that. That needs an explanation: who EXACTLY would he declare war against? What would be the criteria for declaring the war was over? And how is he going to pay for it? That is no small issue.
And skimming over Rand's website, I see that he wants to stop the Department of Education from regulating homeschooling. How about ABOLISH the Department of Education since it is unconstitutional?
The problem with government is not that it is poorly managed - that is the neocon/Glenn Beck ruse. The problem is that government has broken its bonds and run amuck. It needs to be taken down to a nub with an axe, not tweaked and refined.
The statement about supporting a declaration of war...
...in Afghanistan was in a recent Wall Street Journal interview.

Thanks
Thanks for the citation.
I'll say it is "somewhat murky". We are going to declare war on the government WE put into power? Huh? Or is he just saying that the Afghan war/empire building exercise is fine as it is so long as it has been cloaked in a Constitutionally declared mantle of war?
And what would he consider a victory? When opposition to our occupation stops? When the taliban gives up? When the people we have crushed start saying they like us?
Good questions.
Not sure. Certainly some things we'd like clarification on.
It's one thing to say that if you're going to be there, you do it through proper declaration. It's quite another to say you support a declaration of war against a country.

You are right! The problem is that we have a lot of loyalist to the Rand Paul campaign who are afraid of to ask of their candidate the questions that MUST be answered. Several months ago I cited the wishy washy answers Rand was giving and demanded of his supporters to get a clear and concise answer on these questions that people like Ron Paul so effectively addresses. It is important that this movement supports transparency and statesmen/women for the office and not run of the mill politicians who want to glaze over the issues and assure you that their talk is just for votes but they'll get down to business if we send them to Washington. I'm tired of politics as usual, that's why I'm here. Thanks to patriots like yourself for asking the hard questions.

Thank you for stepping up to the plate Rand. I salute your courage and fortitude. Here's to a huge WIN next year!!!

Carol, if Rand Paul follows
Carol, if Rand Paul follows the foot-step of his fahter, Rep. Dr.Ron Paul, then nothing to bother or worry about for sure. But, now, rumors are circulating around to have Sarah Palin with some of Glennn Beck's extreme and bias ideas-perhaps incitement of violence injected into Rand's campaign. Would you please clear this out?
This is Troubling
God love Carol and Ron Paul and all they have done to fight for our liberties. But Rand needs to stand up and be a bigger man. HE should be defending himself, NOT his campaign manager or his mother.
I'm disgustingly disappointed at this point. If we don't hear something from him soon... even if it something we don't want to hear... I will have to withdraw my support for his campaign. I've donated $200... The least he can do is post a response to our concerns; a video discussing it would be preferable. To not do so shows me a fundamental lack of leadership and strong wits.
What's more puzzling is his father’s absence on this subject. I do not believe someone who has held 100% to his principles for over twenty-years, Dr. Ron Paul, can support his son's position.

What is Rand Paul supposed to Respond to Every Little Website?
You realize how almost everyone in office is attacked on some blog or website every day? Rand Paul is supposed to take time out to respond to the same ten or so posters on this website throwing a temper tantrum?
Really?
All it takes is him sitting behind a webcam and addressing the issue. He doesn't have to come to this blog to do it. Post it on the website. While he's at it, clarify his position on non-intervention. Does he support it? Most people have been duped into believing that he was basically like his father on the issues with slight exceptions. I'm seeing huge exceptions in the department of foreign policy. That is many here's top issue. How can you have fiscal solvency when involved in policing the world, and Afghanistan is just that. Why is his answer to that question always what he would have done if in office 8 years ago. We want to know what he will do when he is office now!
Your defense of the campaign regardless of what troubling news comes out of it is disturbing to say the least. I would expect such things at a GOP haven.

You're wrong if you think the people concerned....
...are limited to the few more vocal ones, and it is not a tantrum to be concerned about the recent controversial things. They are not trivial matters.
At any rate, he doesn't have to even post something here, although that would not be unreasonable to ask given the role this site and its participants have played. But clarification or retraction or something from him is in order, given the nature of the things in question.
Daily Paul Is Not Just Some Website!
It's not surprising that you wouldn't respect this website since you've only been here for three weeks!
Rand absolutely needs to respond to his base that gave him hundreds of thousands of dollars. He wouldn't be anywhere right now if the people on this website hadn't backed him.
You clearly have no respect for DP or its members if you think this is just any "little website".

Hear..Hear
.
I'm not worried, It's just the same few posters
that are trying to keep this crap kicked up. Also notice, it's the very same ones creating the anti Rand threads as well.
sorry delete

Not enough
There are PLENTY of very intelligent, well-informed neocons out there. Being smart and well informed does not make you a true fighter for freedom. If it were that easy, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in.
Intelligent, well-informed people are still driven by the fear, anger, hatred, greed, pride, guilt, shame, etc. that makes people into neocons, socialists, fascists, and tyrants (and tyrant supporters) of every stripe.
If Rand is reading this, I have a couple questions. He wants to declare war on Afghanistan. Who, EXACTLY, will you be declaring war on? The government WE put into power? The land? The infrastructure (what little there is)? The civilian population? Anyone who will not swear a loyalty oath to the US? Anyone who speaks ill of us? Who?
If you are going to declare war, you need to be very clear about WHO you are declaring war on and you need to be very clear about what set of circumstances constitutes victory. If you cannot state both of these clearly, you are heading into a swamp that you will not get out of without a world of hurt.
So, who are you declaring war on and when will it be over?
Secondly, how are you going to pay for it?
If you cannot answer these questions clearly and in a manner that is consistent with traditional notions of liberty and sound fiscal policy, then I think the neocon shoe fits.
"Not enough"
For you maybe. But not everyone is you...
True
True enough. You have effectively refuted the TITLE of my post. Care to try your hand at responding to the substance?
I guess not
I guess not.
Well, Mrs. Paul I AM worried.
Rand Paul actually signed Glenn Beck's pledge.
http://www.the912project.com/2009/09/11/glenns-pledge-for-ou...
I am against that pledge, #5 is just too arrogant and stems from an imperialist mentality.
According to this article:
http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2009/11/05/kentu...
"It’s hard to imagine any candidate better-positioned to scoop up the Tea Party faction’s enthusiasm and support than the younger Paul. His campaign is basically just the Glenn Beck Show on the road. He’s explicitly signed on to the 9/12 Movement,..."
Gasp!
Glenn Beck and tea parties! Say it ain't so!
It's the heart and soul of the neocon world
Sure they say they are against socialism but they don't mind enslaving other nations to our military and pay no attention to the Patriot Act. Glenn Beck supported the Patriot Act and attacked Ron Paul and continues to marginalize him.
Beck IS the controlled opposition. Tea partiers see that they are opposing something...they don't see the "controlled" part. Rand's shaping up to be a dream come true for the neocon establishment...who better to lead the controlled opposition than the son of the leader of the REAL opposition?
Sorry
But Rand Paul hasn't caved one iota on the PATRIOT act. In fact, his website is clear in the issues section that he isn't friendly towards it.
http://www.randpaul2010.com/issues/h-p/privacy-liberty/
That's nice
But it's beside the point. I was saying that Glenn Beck and his army are the controlled opposition, they don't care about the Patriot Act, nor do they care about the wars. And that is very different from the Ron Paul movement's priorities.
Glenn Beck is a Neocon, Not a Libertarian
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6C6E6ayh4U
Rand not only signed the 9-12 pledge, he included a side-by-side picture of himself with Beck in the one letter we got from his campaign headquarters. He wants you to know he is in tight with Beck.
And I've always hated Beck, AND Sarah Palin, and don't know what on earth Rand is about, shmoozing with these neocons.
Trolls be gone
All of you trying to undermine the Rand Paul Just need to get the hell out of here. The man was brought Up by his Father, raised by his Father and has the same values as his Father. When he says he will support a consititutional war thats what he Means. He knows that war is not consititutional nor will it ever be but if they can prove that it is he will support it. read what he says don't make things up to suite your desire to see him lose .
she spelled becoming wrong =D
she spelled becoming wrong =D
I agree. She could have said it and someone else actually
posted it for her.
Debbie
How stupid that someone would even think that Rand could
become a neocon! Hahahaha. I can't believe it, but thank you Carol, for your reply, which was a huge understatement. OF COURSE he is way to intelligent and informed for that!
