China Cold Open, China would like their money back.
Also Al Gore was on SNL's Weekend Update.
It's time for the V.P. to get a little crazy.

Actually, I'll bet China did
Actually, I'll bet China did get a lot of those clunkers. They want raw materials. I heard one talking head say that the C4C program was dreamed up by the Chinese Embassy. It makes sense. China wants to support the dollar while acquiring commodities - not an easy trick. If they buy iron and steel directly with dollars, that drives the value of dollars down. So they loan the US some of their dollars, which keeps the value of the dollar from plummeting as fast as it would otherwise. Then the US follows through on their end of the bargain by spending the dollars on clunkers, which are crushed and sold to China at a deep discount. It's called a kick-back deal.
Do we know where those clunker lumps wound up?
This is a major event. It
This is a major event. It says it is okay now to laugh at Obama's absurdities. Until now, acceptable Obama jokes poked fun at superficial things, or at his opponents. The late night shows were still working the Cheney, Palin, and McCain jokes. The honeymoon is over.
Very Surprised How Truthful This Video is From NBC!
It makes me wonder if the government stepped on GE's toes somehow; normally they are in bed with the government - stealing money from the people and taking handouts.
1) 800 Billion owed to China
2) Stimulus has created zero jobs.
3) Cash for clunkers.
But, in the end, I guess they don't point out that the Fed is really at the core of responsibility.

I want my money back, too, China!
I want medical expences paid and refunds given to me and all my fellow Americans, for all the toxic products and toys you've been selling to us to give to our babies and young children all these years.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission will announce a massive crib recall on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the agency said Monday.
The spokeswoman said she had few details other than the recall would be announced Tuesday.
A report from ABC News said the recall would be the largest in history and would involve cribs with drop-down sides.
The Bethesda, Md.-based CPSC issues safety information, warnings and recalls on consumer products such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters and household chemicals.
More than 4.6 million cribs have been recalled since 2007. The CPSC announced the recall of 400,000 drop-side cribs manufactured by Simplicity Inc. in July because they pose a risk of suffocation. Simplicity and crib maker Delta Enterprises also have issued voluntary recalls.

As I thought!
Description: The recalled cribs are made of wood and have a wooden mattress support. Only cribs with wooden mattress supports and with model number 8740KCW SC and serial number 2803 SC to 1605 are included in this recall. The model and serial number are printed on the envelope attached to the mattress support.
Sold at: Department stores, and children's product stores from August 2003 through May 2005 for about $130.
***Manufactured in: China***
Remedy: Consumers should call Simplicity Inc. to receive a retrofit kit.

that was the most AWESOME thing i've seen today...
throughout past history, many a courageous people have resorted to satire to expose corruption and lies in their government when there was no apparent main stream media available to them to otherwise get the "truth" out
this piece, at once, showcases the american elite government's condescending voice towards the rest of the world even in the face of it's imminent collapse, as well as the truth of how stupid they, the american government, thinks we, the american people (and the world) are...
i think this piece will be looked at through the lens of history as a very real example of the way we, the people came to expose the clowned stupidity that is the "elite" government!
these new world jokers are two things: very very rich and very VERY stupid!
we will destroy them!
O Captain! My Captain! Rise up and hear the bells!

The Chinese
love our cheap money..they are using all those dollars to buy up American businesses, property, toll roads, bridges, National landmarks....The Chinese are doing just fine...soon they will own us.
Oh yeah? Just like Y2K...right?
I've been around the block.
They used the same stupid scare in the 80's. Back then it was the Japanese who were going to buy up everything.
Newsflash: No one wants to buy up land anymore...if you buy up the land, you then have to run the place...and people just don't have the morals of conquerors anymore. It is far more profitable to keep people paying the minimum payments on loans.
BTW: Despite what *everyone* says, our debt to income ratio isn't bad.
Debt: 12 trillion
Income: 14 trillion
Before your primitive mind says, "that only leave 2 trillion". You have to remember that that debt is low interest over a long period of time (thus, low payments)...like a mortgage.
For example, the 12 T debt to 14 T income (GDP) is like making $140,000 and having a mortgage of $120,000. That isn't bad at all.
BTW: China is in debt too (380 billion...which is 18.4 % of their GDP). That percentage is a lot lower than ours, but our infrastructures are much stronger than China's.
Anyway, heed no mind to the endless parade of boogeymen.
oops
Oops, this is no longer correct:
"You have to remember that that debt is low interest over a long period of time"
USA debt financing has been moving toward shorter maturities. When interest rates eventually rise, the shorter debt maturities will need to roll over. Much like the shock experienced by those with adjustable rate mortgages, the price of debt financing will rise.

You forgot...
about the 100 trillion or so we owe ourselves...
it becomes a little harder to repay anything when you take that into account.
