Parliament of World's Religions -- the OTHER Copenhagen

Is it a coincidence that the same week of the Copenhagen conference there is a major conference to unite and organize the world's religions under one organization?

The Parliament of World's Religions

The Parliament engages religious and spiritual communities by:

* Focussing on Indigenous and Aboriginal spiritualities at the Parliament to honour these communities and encourage reconciliation.
* Facilitating cooperation between all of Australia’s religious and spiritual Communities.
* Enabling religious and spiritual communities to increase social capital by building lasting cross-cultural networks of understanding and cooperation.
* Challenging religious and spiritual leaders to craft new responses and solutions to religious extremism, wherever it occurs and increase human security.
* Helping religious and spiritual communities to confront homegrown terrorism and violence at the local level.

The Parliament educates for global peace and justice by:

* calling people of faith, spirit and goodwill to understand and respect differences.
* exploring religious conflict and globalisation as defining challenges in the twenty-first century and provides tools for responding effectively.
* creating cross-cultural networks that empower peace and reconciliation.
* helping participants identify religious and spiritual responses to local, regional, and international challenges to peace and justice.
* sensitising religious and spiritual communities to racial, ethnic and religious violence and provides strategies for defusing tensions.

The Parliament engages civil society by:

* effectively mobilising religious and spiritual communities for a positive response in times of national and global crisis.
* exploring the cultivation and governance of religious and ethnic diversity.
* sensitising political and religious leaders to their responsibility for national social cohesion.
* helping participants to deal with ethnic and religious tensions.
* educating civil societies to deal with global and regional issues.

It has all of the sound of a noble effort, but the bold sections jumped out to me as concerning. What exactly is "religious extremism"? Who defines what religious views are extreme? Why is "human security" the goal? Is not security the very club that has been used to beat our rights out of us here in America?

And the mobilizing in times of national and global crisis sounds far too convenient for the New World Order's hopes to seize power. Maybe I am just overly cynical, but such an organization could be easily turned to support a diabolical scheme.

Oh, and yes, global warming makes an appearance in this conference as well.

I don't think you're being overly cynical.

When we've already seen how some use words like "extremism" and "security" to prey on people's fear and manipulate them, it should raise a red flag.

I see the term "homegrown terrorism" also made an appearance in the info above...and "governance". What does that mean, "governance of religious and ethnic diversity"?

You understand the point behind uniting of world's religions into one. The things mentioned above sound like excuses to work toward that goal.

Thanks for the post. I had not heard about this conference.

Thanks. I had not heard

Thanks. I had not heard about this conference either until Sunday morning when it was mentioned in my Sunday School class. I looked it up that afternoon to see what it was all about. Many believe that these activities are pointing toward the end times depicted in Revelations, and the evidence is rather convincing. Whether or not this is the "end times" or simply a plot by a group of people known as the NWO (or both), we should remain watchful and prepare our hearts for the battle to come.

Unlike many in the Church, I do not believe that the Bible supports a pre-tribulation rapture (if, indeed, there is a rapture in the modern sense of the idea). Rather, I see repeated calls for endurance under persecution. Consider:

And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven. Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation, and all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain. If anyone has an ear, let him hear: If anyone is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.
(Rev 13:5-10 ESV)

I believe the Church does a great disservice to their congregations by preaching a doctrine of a pre-tribulation rapture in which they are told they will endure none of the tribulation period at all. Revelations makes it clear that saints will be persecuted and killed by the beast (NWO?), and we should prepare our hearts accordingly.

... choose this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
(Jos 24:15 ESV)

I've read some very compelling arguments...

...all three ways: pre-, mid-, post-. As much as I'd like to believe in pre-trib rapture, I'm inclined to agree with you.

Also, it is hard not to notice the hastening as so many things converge. So whether this is "end times" or a NWO plot, or both, it seems someone is in a hurry.
