Since I have a very long memory, I thought this little link would interest those who don't:

I know the campaign is taking the high ground, so would never use McCain's past to smear him, but in light of the Wall Street Bailout announced by George W. today (the non-bailouot bailout), some folks might like to be reminded of Johnny's role in helping stick it to the financially responsible back in the mid-80s.

John McCain on NPR
I was listening to John McCain on NPR and he stated that the greatest challenge that defines this age is our struggle against radical Islam.
If you honestly believe -- as he does -- that the struggle against radical Islam is the single greatest threat to the American Way of life, you might think that the trillion dollars we spend on our foreign policy is worth its weight in gold.
If you honestly believe -- as we do -- that the struggle against liberty and freedom at home is the single greatest threat to the American Way of life, you go all out -- as I have seen my fellow patriots do -- for Ron Paul.
It's that simple.

I've been wondering when people were gonna talk about that!!
That is EXACTLY what John is talking about when he says....."We" came to Washington to change Washington but Washington changed "Us"....
I loved Dr. Paul CORRECTLY pointing out that THAT DIDN'T APPLY TO ME!!!!
WHAT A LINE!!!
John Mc-Insane.... WHAT A NUT... and worse.... A CROOK
Lap Dog.
Ever wonder why McCain mirrors bush's policies?
This could be why.

People here remember
Huge scandal. As much as he likes to tell people how popular he is in AZ he is wrong. His wife had a fainting spell not to long ago and the local media was all over it and when McCain was having his face cancer removed the local media was all over it. On the positive they always mention the Keating scandal.
I remember this as well...
...as the involvement of Neil Bush in the S & L scandal.
Which story then got conveniently "forgotten" in the run-up to the first Gulf War.
Wag the Dog indeed.
The thing about McCain that bothers me...
I respect tremendously the service he gave for his country and the ordeal he underwent as a POW in Vietnam. But looking back on this, his terrible suffering was basically all for nothing. His life was ruined for nothing - all due to the misguided policies of the government. So McCain should know, better than anyone else, the price that soldiers pay in needless wars.
But now he's putting our sons and daughters in an identical situation.
McCain was actually the first politician I ever donated to, during the last Presidential election. And then he turned into this unrepentant warmonger, for reasons that I can't understand. This totally inexplicable behavior has made me distrust him all the more. Otherwise, I always thought he was a real decent guy and a real hero.
I think it is BECAUSE he cannot acknowledge...
But looking back on this, his terrible suffering was basically all for nothing.
And I think it is BECAUSE he cannot acknowledge that it was for "nothing" that prevents him from acknowledging his own collusion in causing the same kind of suffering (and worse) to thousands (and possibly hundred of thousands) of other human beings.
Sometimes there is a "psychological" blocking mechanism that people put in place -- often they unwittingly acknowledge its existence when they say things like "...but I *have* to believe that _______" or its corollary "... but I *cannot* believe that __________" or the even more obvious "...I *refuse* to even *think* that ____________".
A lesser coping mechanism is to "not talk about that" -- often keeping friends and even wives or other close family in the dark concerning certain events.
While these mechanisms CAN occur around tragic accidents and violent crimes, they MOST often are related to soldiers and others near action in wartime. It's often said that the men without visible scars or lost limbs are often more damaged than those with them; since in every external sense they are "just like" everyone else, it is harder for them to cope with the internal reality.
The suffering of soldiers (and the society that "creates" them) from the war can be worse once they return. Likewise, a small but definite number of them strike out at those around them, and this can be especially dangerous if/when they are put in positions of power over others (such as police, etc.)
Note that by saying that I do *NOT* mean to implicate all veterans, merely to acknowledge that a number of them have extreme difficulty coping or simply "cannot" cope once they return, and then they themselves and those in society around them can pay a tragic price.
This is yet another reason why we need someone like Ron Paul elected -- he sees the need for PROPER support of veterans -- both for the good of the veterans AND for our society at large; that is one "social program" that IS WORTH the cost. (And conversely, it is the one area of "support the troops" that the neocons and chickenhawks CUT at every opportunity.)
It's more than that
.
McCain has been blinded by many things, including his ego. In a 60 Minutes piece, he pretty much turned a deaf ear to his Arizona constituents - who were adamantly opposed to continuing in Iraq - and just became Mr. Tough Guy. I think he's got a screw loose. Seriously.
