BREAKING: Black Friday News...

First off....isn't it funny that I jump on the DP to express my excitement before anything else???? I love you all and wanted to share.... Today was awesome...
.
Okay....as most of you old timers know...from the past...I own a Car Audio store here in Portland, Oregon, and we always have fun with "Black Friday" trying to bring in customers. I am not plugging my site....but here we are....and click on the commercial that did it all...LOL. I just want to show you some success in marketing....it worked in this horrible market.
.

.
.
.
Well....we had over 400 people sleeping in front of our store at 1AM in the morning (We opened @5am) . We gave away portable MP3 Players that I bought from China......It cost you 3 cans of food to get into our sale...so we have thousands of cans of food for the homeless....and 98% of the people that came to our store purchased something. In 24 years of business we have never sold this much car audio gear..........and we still have 2 more days to go.
.
The economy is horrible...but if the price is right....you can break all records and profit.
.
So....just got home......and ready for another line tomorrow.

BACK TO THE POINT.......I don't think the economy is failing that bad. People are ready to spend if the price is right. We are knocking them dead. I understand if you are unemployed you don't get what I am saying...but I don't see it here. If the price is right...we all will spend.....Help me understand.....we are kicking ass....giving the best deals ever! After Circuit City closed.....we are up 45%. Talk to me...

Impressive Marketing!

Enjoyed your commercial. How could you be making any money? Bigger question......how did you find enough time to get on here? Go takeaction!

Circuit City's profits

were based on selling service contracts. They didn't make money off their base prices. In a fake economy, that fake value can be sold.

Circuit City should have raised their base price and quit the service contract scam as soon as economic reality started to dawn.

If there's anything good about this economy, it's that less of the fake value can stand.

You are now competing on a more fair playing field, but some of it is just that there is less competition in town.

I sure am happy for you

and love how you raise food for the poor. That is awesome. Amazing the things that sell during hard times, who would have figured audio equipment. lol Maybe, you should come up with a audio equipped tent to sell, for those who camp out in lines for those great deals. lol Congrats!

After Circuit City closed near Bellingham, an appliance

store bought the building and moved in. My son has a home theatre company, and he installed the tv and home theatre section in the new store.
Great to hear a DP friend is surviving in this economy, and the food for the Food Bank is great! We collected food and donations at our local TEA Parties.

Great Commercial!

You mentioned the critical factor:

Circuit City closed. Fewer stores to dice up the retail pie.

The massive expansion of retail in the last 30 years was not sustainable. The number of retail stores MUST be culled so the rest can remain healthy. The culling will happen among the stores with the heaviest debt and the least creativity. What should remain, after the culling, is stores with superior merchandising, superior service, and superior marketing.

I'm a 30 year veteran of the retail wars, and the company I am with is fighting for its' life. I'm curious: is your debt load light or heavy? Have you changed your merchandising (many stores have become very conservative, which I think is a self-fullfilling prophecy)? Obviously you have been very creative with marketing...we have moved away from "sale" and towards everyday low...are you focusing on price or other factors in your ads?

By the way, folks, electronics tends to be a low margin business to start with, so my hat is off to TakeAction for boosting his profit in these tough times.

Did you swap with anyone

presenting gold or silver for trade. That would have been a really good idea. Take it back to the scale, determine the weight of gold/silver and made out a receipt for cash and let them shop till they drop. Try is and see how you fare.

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

One thing I really liked about the whole thing:

Is the fact that you collected up so much for the food bank. The food bank in our little town here is a great thing and I believe it is important to support them.
Thank you for making the choice to share your good fortune.

Great Job,

This is a great example of a Daily Paul member who knows how to thrive in the free market.

Congrats!

What don't you understand, though? Circuit City closed. Did you hire all their employees? Those who still have jobs don't understand all the fuss, those who have lost jobs are in a depression. We compromise and call it a recession.

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

Just curious...

How much of this merchandise is made in China and other countries?

and how much of it was purchased on credit?

1st question. 95% or more

1st question. 95% or more I'd wager.

your able to knock prices

your able to knock prices down to a great level due to (presumably) huge markups that exsist the rest of the year, not all industry can do this so your kind of in a unique situation..

though car audio is a shock to me, i guess if thats selling then the economic situation hasn't hit "the people" yet?

congrats!

How much of that was bought on credit

I think I just saw one of your ads on G4.

Awesome!

and it is COLD in Portland! Brr.... (sleeping outside? LOL WOW!)

That was

Outrageous. Aside from the low end equipment how was the high end sales?

High end

sales were huge...especially on in dash DVD players with GPS. The best gear is from Kenwood...and the average sale is $1500 to $4000 per car with GPS, Rear View cameras, blue-tooth, I pod & I phone integration....on and on. Business is great because people love music!

Thats great

My business motto

Business is terrific
People are great
Life is wonderful

We put this on our trucks and either people think we are in denial and the others think we are reflecting a positive message and love it. Your add reminds me of rhe crazy car dealers but those kind of adds work. With all of the giveaways you had that is what got the customers in the door. So you need some good salesmen to get them to purchase the higher end audio equipment. Overall it looks like you did a nice job with the advertising. We are coming into our slow season and we are now starting to put our advertising together for the next season

lol.

very cool.

Awesome

Fantastic ideas, you earned your success today bro.

Way to go the extra mile and help out the needy. Congratulations on your success.
