Why free advertising for Google on the BLIMP?
Submitted by Devon on Fri, 12/07/2007 - 00:44
"Google Ron Paul" on the Blimp? I don't think Google should get hundreds of thousands of dollars of free advertising like that. Google should be asked to pay for, or barter, for that advertising, and if they don't want to then it shouldn't be put on the blimp.
Tell Google that "MSN Live Search: Ron Paul" will be on it if they don't. That should get them interested.
If the advertising were paid for, it could help fund the blimp.

Because the people who set
Because the people who set it up are amateurs - I'm sure when the paid company get's the Huckster's blimp in the air they will learn.
I refused to donate to the blimp based upon the message – they lost of $2500 (not that they needed it)
Google is now a verb.
stop whining.
I really like Google and dont mind them getting a boost... but..
It really is a good idea to let some competition and advertising help pay for the blimp... that would be really funny if Trevor could pull that off so he can just fly the thing without donations... a self financing ad campaign.
google is fine but blimp needs 1-888-Ron-Paul
The whole idea is to attact media attention, and when its on television the older folks wont be able to google. so it needs the 1-888-RON PAUL number too
Umm...
Google is a VERY powerful force in the world right now, and I personally don't see anything wrong with doing a little favor for them; maintaining a Very powerful friendship :)
I AGREE -- Google has done wonderful things for us without even
trying.
The GOOGLE interview with Dr. Paul was one of the BEST things that ever happened for us in this race. It was SO good in so many ways. Google staff have been very supportive and if it weren't for Google, we may not even have as many people in our support base as we do.
I say let them have the space for free and say THANK YOU Google for being there for us and making us #1 on the Internet in every way!
Thank you!!!!

Do you KNOW how to become a Delegate for Ron Paul? -- Do it!
Our NH campaign guy (5 to freedom) was a Google exec
Why not ask him.
I can't say I disagree with them getting off for free. I'm sure there are laws, but, the blimp group is it's own company...right?

Luckily for us,Google is a Verb & a powerful Brand
If some one says Google Ron Paul, you instantly know what they are asking you to do. Google has become a verb for lookup, search, research online. That is one reason why Google has become so successful. In Marketing, especially with finite space limitations (Blimps, Billboards, etc...) you have to communicate the message quickly, efficiently, and memorably. In addition, Google is a very successful company with a well established brand identity which is seen as revolutionary, new, better, smarter, helpful, etc.... so attaching Ron Paul's name to the brand could very well communicate to people that Ron Paul has those same qualities. And, if they do Google Ron Paul, they will find out that he actually does have those attributes.
"Google Ron Paul" has been a phrase that has been used since the beginning of the movement. It has served us well, and it will continue to serve us well as we reach out to voters that haven't started paying attention yet.
Ironically, Google could
Ironically, Google could eventually be in danger of losing their copyright status if they do not defend their trademark. Every time anyone says "Google Ron Paul" instead of "Google search Ron Paul", they could end up with a weak claim on the validity of their copyright since it will become commonly used as a verb... They may be forced to warn or sue the Ron Paul Blimp over this usage.

"The main thing that I learned about conspiracy theory is that conspiracy theorists actually believe in a conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the world is that it is chaotic..." —Alan Moore
Why?
Because this could make Ron Paul one of the top searches on Google and therefore be good exposure to anyone who still lives in the dark.
To me...
"Google" means search it on the web. I understand your concern, but too many people say "Google 'this' and google 'that'".
"Make fun buddy..." - Ron Paul
Google consistently has the most negative articles
on Ron Paul when you do a search. Dogpile and Ask do better.
I think google has been "compromised" by other campaigns through search engine tactics to bring up the most negative items about Dr. Paul.
How about just RonPaul2008.com instead of Google.
But, it's probably too late and google is basically slang for do an internet search.
Negative News on Google
Negative articles come up on top in Google because of their formula and because RP supporters (we're all guilty here) can't resist the draw of a negative RP article.
Yahoo can not be on the blimp!
Remember Lou Dobbs did a story about Yahoo sensoring citizens in China at the request of the China governmen. So we can't put Yahoo on there, it would be against what we stand for. And I am no sell out!
Well, I agree with you, but...
I think they're printing up the banners as we speak. Remember, it's Friday, and the blimp is launching on Monday (or Tuesday at the latest).
But for month #2, it would be great if they could figure out some type of corporate advertising to cover some more of the costs.
They could "threaten" Google, but "Yahoo Ron Paul" doesn't have quite the ring to it. "MSN Live Search Ron Paul"? Maybe. :)
Yahooooooooo Ron Paul
Sounds funny. That could be used against Dr. Paul, the "yahoo"... or whatever. Otherwise, I like Yahoo overall. Google scares me a little. Something about keeping all of my search terms stored with my identifying information attached. Big Brother is watching me. What else is new. For my own searches, I like to use Scroogle unless I am searching for Ron Paul, then I use Google AND Yahoo to keep him at the top of search term traffic counts.

Is this even worthy of
Is this even worthy of addressing? Fie!

it is my understanding
that google personnel are some of Ron Paul's biggest donors (after the military). Doesn't it make more sense to befriend this organization as opposed to being combative?

I'm sure
I'm sure Google is just fine with their name replacing "Search this on the internet" as many other brand names have done in the past (ie. Coke, Kleenex, Nintendo in the early 90's).
The word 'google'
A sentence must have a subject and a verb, just like we all learned waaay back when.
The word 'google' is in the dictionary as a verb.
Ron Paul, is a noun, and the subject of the following sentence:
Google Ron Paul.
I'm not a lawyer (the blimp team has quite a few distinguished ones), but I'm pretty sure we're still allowed to put together nouns and verbs to make sentences in America, at least for now.
I don't mean to be a jerk. Just lettin ya know.

Actually, 'you' is the
Actually, 'you' is the subject of the sentence, but never mind the English teacher in me. :) Let the blimp fly--as long as it has Ron Paul's name on it, I don't care if you google, yahoo, dogpile, or you tube him. Get the word out there!!
Jesus is my Lord and my God, and Ron Paul, champion of all things freedom, including religion and the free exercise thereof, is my choice for president.
agreed.
Good gramatical catch.
It's an imperative construction.
"YOU google Ron Paul"
You is the subject (one performing the 'action')
google is the verb, in the imperative (command)
Ron Paul is the object. (completes the verb's meaning - What or Whom is googled?)
I stamp all of my fiat paper with Google Ron Paul.
I stamp all of my fiat paper with Google Ron Paul.
It incites action, immediately or short-term. No need to wait, you can Google right away. How deep you go is up to you.
If for example the message was to say "Vote For Ron Paul" or "Ron Paul For President", instead of Google Ron Paul, it would not call anything immediate to action (especially to someone who doesn't know who Ron Paul is). Voting takes place later. Right now, it's finding out about him -- taking action, now, not waiting for election day. I understand the marketing concepts here, and it is brilliant to keep educating as many people as possible right now. Dr. Paul needs to be a household name. This will help, significantly.
I also use my RP r(evol)ution stamp because I love the logo (it's very catchy, highly memorable) and stamp almost all my big bux with that... AND "Google Ron Paul". One on each side! Many of our Meetup members are doing the same, and work in the service industry and as cashiers in stores, so they have access to lots and lots of fiat ... woo. Forget "Where's Georg?" (He Grew Hemp) instead it's "Where's Ron?"
Google is being kind
Google has become a verb in common use. Besides, when you google Ron Paul, the hour-long video of him being interviewed by google staff comes up on the front page. When you hit "I'm feeling lucky", the official Ron Paul campaign page comes up. I think Google appreciates the free advertising and is doing what they can to say "THANK YOU"
Jesus is my Lord and my God, and Ron Paul, champion of all things freedom, including religion and the free exercise thereof, is my choice for president.
Tea Drop
Why not tea companys that donate the tea bags to be droped from the blimp at rallies throught the journey.
tea bags?
I hope they will be dropping tea leaves rather than tea bags - leaves are organic; tea bags are not

A leaf?
Umm a leaf (not in a bag) is not dangerous from any height. If its ground up even it would simply act like confetti.
Tea bags on the other hand, yea that could be dangerous.
I agree
and I bet the colonists were dumping crates of loose tea, not flow-through tea bags :)
