Frank Sees No Change in Fed Audit | Reuters 12/2/09

U.S. Representative Barney Frank told reporters on Wednesday he does not expect changes during House floor debate, possibly next week, to a proposal that would subject Federal Reserve monetary policy for the first time to audits by a congressional watchdog.

"Absent some change in the way the public is reacting, I don't see any changes," said Frank, the committee's chairman.

The measure removes a three-decade ban on congressional audits of Federal Reserve interest-rate decisions, an amendment offered by Representative Ron Paul, a Republican from Texas who has called for the abolition of the central bank. “At this point my guess is it will not be changed,” Frank said about prospects for amending the Paul language on the House floor.
