Man cited for flying flag upside-down

PORTERSVILLE, Pa. (AP) - December 2, 2009 -- A western Pennsylvania man has been cited under a little used law for flying his American flag upside-down.

Fifty-year-old David Rice, of Muddy Creek Township, says he put up the flag at night and didn't realize it was upside-down until a few days ago. He says he's sorry if anybody was offended by it.

State police say a passing motorist was offended and called police Monday. A trooper visited Rice's home and cited him for violating a statute called "committing insults to a national or commonwealth flag."

Rice faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 8 and says he expects to pay a small fine and put the matter to rest.

Flag experts say flying the flag upside-down can be a distress signal. Rice says he didn't mean anything by it.

I've been flying mine that way...

since last July 4th. Not a single person has even noticed (other than my Obama-loving neighbor across the road). I certainly hope some asshole doesn't try to make me change it.
I have considered doing a black-ops thing...sneaking around my county at night, flipping any American flag I can find ....just to see how long it would take for folks to right them.
Perhaps, this might be our Libertarian Tea Party calling card? If we could use this poor PA man's situation as a catalyst for liberty-minded people to sneak, trespass and otherwise secretly invert every American flag that's reachable. I wonder if the media might do a story...at least then, the general sheeple/public would find out what an inverted flag means.
How 'bout it, ya'll? Should me make an effort on this?

Our fellow Americans

are really fast on the draw to turn in their neighbors for non-crimes,
yet let the government get away with murder!

This reminds me of a song

by Carl Klang, sung to the tune of Star Spangled banner. This came out in the 90's when barely anyone was paying attention:

Oh say can you see
Stars and stripes upside down
It means the people all sleep
As foreign powers take control
Right behind all our backs
Traitors plan their attacks
On the laws of our land
And commandments of our Lord.

If we wake up today
We might still find a way
To shake free from these chains
And restore liberty

So wake up and rise up
Americans across this nation
And throw down this tyranny
And aright this flag again.

I guess this guy wasn't a Carl Klang fan....

Yeah

When is the national fly your flag upside down day? We should all fly them in distress. It's dying baby...

Rice didn't see Bernanke's hearing today

The flag SHOULD be upside down today.

We're going deeper into slavery and we don't even know it.

We're forfeiting our heritage and fortune and we don't even know it.

IMO... doing anything to a flag is freedom of speech...

it's just a piece of cloth. Burn it, shred it, poo on it, all in public. Or salute it. It's all your freedom of expression that doesn't hurt anybody else, should be legal anywhere & everywhere.
