Medical Advice Required, PLEASE Help
I Know that over the past few years there has been quite a lot of medical information here on various threads. Does anyone remember the subject of 'seizures' being discussed? If so please tell me the node # or #’s. If there has not been one, then now is the time to start one. Why, you ask. Because my wife of 25 years (as of Feb 22, 2010) has had her first one this past Wensday. She was down in the woods, helping to track a deer. She stopped in front of a tree and went “zombie” for a minute or two. Threw a loaded gun on the ground, haphazardly. She would never do this. Her eyes rolled up in her head. She fell straight over, backwards, hitting her head on a tree. She went “rigid”, with fist clenched and spent the next twenty minutes foaming at the mouth and out cold. When she fell, she tore ligaments in both ankles. When she came to, she could not remember much of any thing, including, me, our son, where she was, or even what she had done that morning. She is back home now and staying in bed. She complains of having the worst headaches of her life time. (She has always had Migraines) Her family, including, grandmother, mother, and older sister, has all had them. The past few weeks, increasingly, she has been complaining of momentary loss or blurred vision. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that most of this discussion is going to be about, heavy metals?
EDITED for clarity Sorry, I left out that the medics were called. It was either that or haul her out of the woods the way we planed to haul out our deer. Tie a rope around one leg and hook it on to my riding mower. I’m in no shape to carry her. She wouldn't have remember'd and it would have saved all the medics and first responders a lot of walking. She went to hospital, she is scheduled to see a "neurologist"....IN FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS. I have been on the phone most of the day trying to get her in sooner, without success.
Update.....11:54 P.M. (12-04-10)
She has gone to bed for the night (about 40 minutes ago). Had head ache and did not seem to be very ‘lucid’. She can not speak very well (she chewed up her tongue during the seizure. But tonight her speech was very “slurred”. She has had trouble (all day), remembering where she put things or where to go to get them. It’s the weekend and no way to call doctors until Monday. I am trying to keep her off her feet (concrete floors are not as soft as tree’s or the ground). I am planning to take her to my doctor’s office on Monday, without an appointment. Maybe , he can get some tests done?
Thank you for all your support!

Stroke symptoms
She needs an MRI now. I had a stroke 8 months ago.Memory loss, headaches and seizures were some of the aftermaths I had in the following weeks. Strokes can be more common in people that have suffered migraines, as the blood vessels in the head and neck can constrict during a severe migraine. Best of luck to you both
livefreeordie
Has she been on any med's for any length of time? cortazone perhaps? has she stopped taking/cold turkey any med's lately. if so this can cause same symptoms. It happend to my 84 yr old mother inlaw we almost lost her. Please get her to ER ASAP and God Bless
is there a history of aneurysms in the family?
I was a neuro nurse years ago. Maybe a tumor? 4.5 months to see a doctor? where do you live, Canada?!!? Don't care what you have to do. Get her in to see someone now...

I agree that she needs to go to ER
The worst headache of her life and slurred speech could indicate an aneurysm. Younger women can get these and they are very VERY bad. Insist they do something!

maybe aspartame
i became toxic to aspartame .aspartame is the underlining cause to so many neurological disorders.blurred vision is one of the many side effects i had.so was disabling migraine headaches, there were a few times i caught myself studdering.never had a seizure.i dont know if your wife was like me and mainly to only drank diet drinks but if this is so look of side effects and toxicity to aspartame.it saved my life when i finally found the cause.i was better after detoxing it out with lots of water, replenishing my body with vitamins and using colloidal silver .i haven't drank or eaten anything with aspartame in about 1-1/2 years and feel a whole lot better.
Having read the update
GO TO THE ER NOW.
This is serious. Do not wait until Monday. Do not go to the nearest Er, go to the best ER within an hour or two drive. And then do not let them discharge until she has had full testing.

Medical marijuana
my patients swear to this. It controls the number of seizures and the severity of them.
I gave some to my grandmother immediately after a TIA (mini stroke), she also has seizures and pre-alzheimer rage/dimentia and she was the most normal I've seen her in 10 years. She did not have 1 more episode in the short time in which I took care of her (1 wk). Her siezures or TIAs are a daily occurrence.
Obviously, it's illegal in most states-- hopefully you live in a mmj state; if not it doesn't mean that it's any less medical--
If you are in a mmj friendly state, do your research. Many of the dispensaries carry tincture. This is what I gave my grandmother cause she'd never smoke it or anything for that matter.
God made all plants, seeds, and herbs for us to use.
If you decide this is right for you, I feel smoking would be the best method of self titration given that the medicine is metbolised quicker therefore, instant relief. Edibles take the longest to benefit from but last longer as well. Tinctures seem to be almost immediate since it is absorbed sublingually. They also make suppositories. These are usual used most by colon cancer survivors and placed rectally.
Good luck, and Godspeed

I will always have access to cannabis. 1st choice over 45 yrs.
I owe my good health from raw foods and cannabis . . . exclusively.
I am proud to be an activist for decriminalization of cannabis, and have used it for medical and consciousness use for over 45 years.
Ending the war on drugs would completely take away an arm of the tyranny, oppression and fear the NWO perpetuates, and would result in more "sane" policies for law enforcement, and where they get their funding.
My friend gave her parkinson's afflicted father cannabis, and he is now funtional and can feed himself. Amazing.
My mother would still be alive, if she chose cannabis over chemotherapy.

You should be at the ER
Forget what all could be causing slurred speech. Anyone with slurred speech needs to be treated like they are having a stroke. No waiting, no figuring out what else it could be,
GO TO THE ER!

Stroke
If this is a stroke and she is not seen asap it will only be worse for her. Slurred speech is not a good sign. I assume that she's already been to the ER since medics were the first responders?
YES, and you or anyone else
YES, and you or anyone else can feel free to call me. # 417-689-0069, or email : dallascounty@live.com I REALLY want to help her....good God, I sure don't want to have to train a new wife! (or was it her that trained me?) I am central time. Going to bed soon. Again, thank you for all the help.

The slurred speech is new
The medics were involved after the seizure.
I've heard a medical person skip telling someone her speech sounds slurred and just tell her she sounds "stroky".
Defend Liberty!
Did she go to the ER?
I can't understand why she hasn't been admitted to a hospital yet.
She needs to be admitted.
She needs to be admitted. Sorry to say. Slurred speech, especially with all the time that has passed, is a very bad thing. That was the first sign of my Grandfather's major stroke. Also, as I'm sure you'll realize, it could be a tumor. I don't know which Drs you are seeing, obviously, but you really need to get her to somewhere that is not going to release her till they figure out the problem! This is some dangerous stuff you're dealing with. Trust me, I have MS, and anything that has to do with your brain is extremely dangerous!!! Get her admitted, I beg you!!

Re update
"she went to a hospital"
"slurred speech"
"doctors office Monday"
Unless they did a pretty thorough evaluation at the hospital, including a CT scan or MRI or they were sure she was not in urgent need of a scan, no way is it a good idea to wait 2 days to get her medical attention.
Slurred speech can indicate something very serious, might not be just from tongue biting.
God be with you both.
"She complains of having the
I read an article, maybe 1 or 2 years ago, which mentioned this as being a symptom of something quite serious. The article mentioned that often people with whatever it was I read about would complain of having the worst headache of their life. All I can remember is that the author of that article recommended, in that situation, medical attention immediately. I also remember something about treatment being possible if handled right away.
I sure hope everything ends up being ok and that your wife recovers quickly.

Has your wife taken Demerol tablets recently for pain?
After the birth of my youngest child 8 years ago my wife had 3 grand mal seizures in a 6 month period. She had been taken p.o. Demerol for chronic pain. Demerol taken over an extended period of time can result in seizures. It metabolizes into a compound known as Normeperidine, which can induce seizure activity. Just something to consider.
Four months just won't do
As SteveMT and Jive both noted below new onset seizures in a middle aged adult, which is what you seem to describe, really should not wait months for further evaluation.
Sort of complicated but here is some info concerning appropriate testing: http://www.neurology.org/cgi/content/full/69/21/1996
The important thing is that there are many different reasons why a person might have such a seizure, ranging from very serious and urgent to almost totally harmless, and no way to tell them apart without further evaluation including careful history, physical exam and testing.
Unfamiliar with where you are but in NYC, unless things have changed drastically, nobody who presented with your wife's symptoms would be discharged from an ER without some sort of brain imaging study being done.
As was also noted there is no reason that an internist or FP cannot request at least some or most of the needed tests so the results are ready to present to the neurologist.
The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was found to have a seizure disorder not long ago. Do you think he waited 4 months? Why should your dear wife have to?
Best wishes for you both. Please keep DP updated.
While she is waiting
to see a specialist, you may want to check out Strauss Heart Drops. Read the testimonial section. Also, read the pdf on how much to take. I mention this because you said her family has a history of brain aneurysms.
As far as the diet goes, here are some quick, easy things you can do to help circulation. You can get more elaborate with the meals later.
- Switch to steam distilled water for drinking and cooking. Learn to drink the water warm as it is more easily absorbed by the body. Drink 1 qt. of warm water upon rising and wait 1 hour before you eat. (total daily water intake should be at least 2 quarts)
- Cut out all hydroginated oils, butters, or cream and switch to organic cold pressed flaxseed oil. Even good cold pressed olive oil thickens the blood somewhat so you may want to temporarily reduce that as well until things get out of the critical stage.
- Eat salads with organic cold pressed flaxseed oil and apple cider vinegar or a dash of lemon juice and omit fatty salad dressings.
- steam the meat she eats instead of cooking in oil. (the fat will melt out of the meat)
- Start drinking cayenne "tea" to help with circulation. 1/4 - 1 tsp. in a cup of hot or very warm water on an empty stomach. (If you take it first thing in the day you may get nauseous.) 90,000 HU cayenne pepper is average hotness. You may only be able to get 40,000 HU organic cayenne from the health food store but that's a good start. I can add links for online sources if you're interested in hotter.
More info about cayenne.
Factor X butter oil and Cod Liver oil for brain seizures
Oh I am so sorry and will be praying for you and your wife. Please read this article and website on Factor X butter oil and Cod liver Oil from research from Weston Price who helped many people with this combination and seizures. The website has sources where to get it and hopefully it will help your wife.
"An analysis of three autopsies showed that vitamin K2 makes up between 70 and 93 percent of the vitamin K in the human brain.69 It is not clear why humans exhibit greater variation in this percentage than rats, although it could be that we convert K1 less efficiently and are therefore more dependent on dietary K2.
Vitamin K2 supports the enzymes within the brain that produce an important class of lipids called sulfatides. The levels of vitamin K2, vitamin K-dependent proteins and sulfatides in the brain decline with age; the decline of these levels is in turn associated with age-related neurological degeneration.46 Comparisons of human autopsies associate the early stages of Alzheimer's disease with up to 93 percent lower sulfatide levels in the brain.70 Warfarin treatment or dietary vitamin K deficiency causes lack of exploratory behavior and reduced physical activity in rats that is suggestive of fatigue.71 Animals that completely lack the enzymes to make sulfatides and a related class of lipids, cerebrosides, progressively suffer from growth retardation, loss of locomotor activity, weak legs and seizures.72
These observations suggest that deficiencies in vitamin K, especially vitamin K2, could result in fatigue and learning difficulties in humans, and that rare, extreme deficiencies of vitamin K2 in the brain could result in seizures. If this is the case, it would explain why Price observed tooth decay, bone fracture, learning difficulties and seizures to share a common cause and a common solution.

On any prescription medication?
Doctors have been handing out benzodiazepine like candy for years as sleep aids, for anxiety, etc. A fairly common side effect of withdrawal is seizures.
Benzodiazepine goes by a fairly long list of names:

She'll be in my prayers
You, I always pray for anyway. ;)
I'm glad you decided not to tie a rope to her leg and drag her with the lawnmower. I wouldn't suggest bringing up that you ever even considered it.
If you should decide to bring her to Hopkins, you can stay here.

If you're in NH, as I assume
If you're in NH, as I assume from your screenname, you may want to take the drive to Dartmouth. Or, head south to Boston. Don't mess around with small town Drs. You're better off going to a big center that would have the equipment necessary to treat her, and they have the funding to cover it too, if necessary.

Maeve, Thank you for careing. As long as you have been here, I am surprised by your assumption. I, “came out of the closet”, well over a year ago. I am also, a-pro-se-litigant, and drdebtfree and maybe a few others that I have forgotten. Log in to givemeliberty.org and search for the county coordinator for Dallas county, MO. Wow!
Guess that little detail slid right by me! Sorry about the assumption, but I am very concerned for your wife. It scares me to think that she is suffering so and no Dr. seems to be doing her justice. I keep her in my thoughts.
