are an extension of the boy scouts. They have been around since at least the early 1970's. When I was in the boy scouts back in the early 1980's several of the eagle scouts went on to join the explorers. The right way to enter the explorers is to first obtain the rank of "eagle scout" and then progress into the explorers although I am not sure how they go about it today. Being in the boy scouts "back in the day" and being a boy scout now are two entirely different things. Personally I would not recommend joining the scouts today.

This probably isn't anything to worry about. One of them mentioned something about being Explorers, which is a part of the Boy Scouts of America organization. Explorers have been around for a number of years, I remember them from back in the early 90s.

I was involved in the Boy Scouts as a youth and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. We used to cross paths with the Explorer units and some were both members of scout troops as well as involved in the explorer program. I believe our area had police, fire and ems explorer groups.

I never knew a great deal about how those groups worked, but from what I understand they aren't really all that much different than the boy scouts aside from the fact that their area of knowledge is in a specialized field.

I remember some in high school who joined the different explorer posts did it for the learning experience and to have on their resume.

It's been around forever. Who else will associate with the little monsters?

This is an overeaction to a program that has existed in some places since the sixties. It is not what they think. If anyone can find real evidence otherwise please post.

I think maybe this youth program has been around a while for young people interested in police work in their future. Maybe some research is in order. What did they call themselves? Explorers? Don't know why they wouldn't show the badge or be more open to questions though. Seems like they might want to encourage others to join up. Not sure what to think.

OK GOOGLED IT This program has been around since 1962. So I don't think it is Obamas youth army He was born in 1961. At least that is what the Los Angelas site says. There are programs in many states. Check them out for yourselves.

Tampa is one of the worst areas I've seen as far as violating your rights. The police are aggressive and just horrendous to deal with. The nightclub area, Ybor City, has a camera on every block and they feed into facial recognition programs. On the weekends its packed in that area and they use it as the time to round up all of their suspects from the week.

That is unbelieveable...People take charge of your kids. These are children working in association with police ? We got WAY too many police as it is...
TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR KIDS PEOPLE, YOUR NEIGHBORS DON'T WANT YOU NOSING IN THEIR BUSINESS OR TATTLING ON THEM TO THE POLICE AND THEY DAMN SURE DON'T WANT YOUR KIDS DOING IT.

It seemed that the We are Change youth are better informed and more solid in their beliefs ( the constitution ). People must truly believe what they fight for.
Besides they could have kicked the faux police butts :)
