Many of you are too young to remember, but in 1975 our government pushed "the coming ice age."
Random House dutifully printed "THE WEATHER CONSPIRACY … coming of the New Ice Age." This may be the only book ever written by 18 authors. All 18 lived just a short sled ride from Washington, D.C. Newsweek fell in line and did a cover issue warning us of global cooling on April 28, 1975. And The New York Times, Aug. 14, 1976, reported "many signs that Earth may be headed for another ice age."
OK, you say, that's media. But what did our rational scientists say?
In 1974, the National Science Board announced: "During the last 20 to 30 years, world temperature has fallen, irregularly at first but more sharply over the last decade. Judging from the record of the past interglacial ages, the present time of high temperatures should be drawing to an end…leading into the next ice age."
You can't blame these scientists for sucking up to the fed's mantra du jour. Scientists live off grants...

The theory was still being promoted in the 90s
I remember my college chemistry professor in the early 90s warning us that both global warming and global freezing were a possibility that we had better take action to stop both. He said that global freezing could result from ozone depletion or something. He said that the chances that the effects of global warming and cooling would cancel each other out would be one in a million or so.

article! I was a young busy mother in the mid-70's, but I remember hearing about the coming ice age on the television news.
This from the article is what makes me the angriest--over and above the whole ludicrous "cow farts" theory--"they" aren't going to change their ways, but everybody else is expected to:
"...His (Al Gore) PR folks say he's "carbon neutral" due to some trades. I'm unsure of how that works, but, maybe there's a tribe in the Sudan that cannot have a campfire for the next hundred years to cover Al's energy gluttony. I'm just not sophisticated enough to know how that stuff works. But I do understand he flies a private jet when the camera crew is gone..."

I remember that UN claim, that global warming is partly caused by this. It's as if the Establishment is giving us a veiled message that the global warming theory is BS, for those of us sharp enough to see it. Funny, isn't it?

do you remember the advertisment of the woolymammoth dying from the ice age.. then they said that is what is coming.. you are right it was a coming ice age because of mans pollution.. then I remeber as I was just stating to work, it was hotter than hades! now they claim global warming and here in Colorado for the last few years it has been cooler..

I still have the book "Global Cooling"
I got back in the 70's and read as a child. It scared me so much and I believed it, until it never happened. As I grew up I gradually realized that the "powers that be" want to scare people into doing things they want. I knew Global Warming was a scam, especially because of the utter urgency and disregarding of dissenting information, just like the coming Ice Age back then. :)

I also remember a report stating " what are we going to do with all our spare time in the next century" This came about because technology was allowing work to be done with less labor, putting citizens out of work. What Happened? Taxes. In the sixties they learned that a populace with to much time on their hands is hard to control. Back then we liberated Women and Afro-Americans. Then they put them to work so they could pay taxes.
I watched as over the years Americans asked for jobs. The government made government jobs, many of them.
This is not how it is supposed to be :(

I remember it very well being a 'young adult' in early 70's ;) Here in NE Ohio we still talk about the 'Blizzard of 78' which indeed was a life time event, hopefully. The hype from so called experts was just like today and little of both sides was ever discussed.

I'm 42. I was a kid in moon boots, a gaudy silver jacket, and I remember this well. We had snow so high we put orange tennis balls on the top of our car antennas so other cars would know we were coming.
Eventually it turned out to be BS, which is why I was so skeptical of Global Warming right from the start.

I've had this conversation with gov co shills. They reply:
"A survey of the scientific literature has found that between 1965 and 1979, 44 scientific papers predicted warming, 20 were neutral and just 7 predicted cooling. So while predictions of cooling got more media attention, the majority of scientists were predicting warming even then."
Then I reply:
"Actually the scientist who predicted a warming trend were right, but it was a normal trend that has ended and is being followed by the cooling trend we have entered."
