Milk and Puberty

I keep hearing about how the hormones in milk these days are causing youngsters to go through puberty so much earlier. Yet, my own 4 kids --who drink a lot of milk-- didn't go through puberty any earlier than me or my wife did, and while some of their classmates are earlier than them, some are not. I just don't see the early puberty that many others claim to be prevalent and are blaming the hormones in milk for.. what do you guys see personally in your own children and your nephews & nieces? I don't care about anecdotal evidence or articles, I prefer personal observations. Thanks in advance.

it depends on the milk.....

you have of course Organic Raw milk...(which is best)and that does not jump start puberty.

However rbgh growth hormone laced milk will.

So if they were not drinking that one, then there would not be a noticeable difference. But if they were...consistently then they would.

Puberty

It is also phthalates. Plastics that we surround ourselves with. Get rid of all the plastic that you can. A new book by Jillian Michaels talks about the endocrine disruptors also DR. Sherry Rodgers has a book "detox or die". It is all about the harmful chemicals. Endocrine-distrupting plastics. Do cause little girls to go through puberty early.

I've also never liked milk!

Never ever drink it except in coffee which I didn't start drinking till I had kids to chase after.lol But I bloomed very early 12ish. My sister who was a athlete drank tons of milk and started puberty much later like 16.

Join a dairy co-op where you can own a percentage of a cow and therefore get real milk.

This is our second year after joining a organic veggie, fruit, and dairy co-op.

This is as good as a food supply as it gets, and its a start.

Highly recommended.

I love this idea of a 'dairy co-op'

I will check it out here in Twin Cities. If not, I will see to it with other eager people!

I agree, fresh raw milk (and cod liver oil /factor x butter oil)

has changed our lives! We all feel so much better, are never sick, thyroid and hormonal imbalances have balanced... We all need to support Ron Paul's legislation to allow Americans to buy and drink raw milk. Some states it is totally illegal, some illegal unless you drive to the farm to pick it up yourself.

School milk

One of my children (I have a label reader) brought home an empty container of school milk (obtained from someone who actually drinks the stuff). The ingredients read as follows: Water, Corn starch, HFCS, milk.
And that was just the white milk. I posted this discovery at the time under a high fructose forum topic and provided a link to the prairie farms online ingredient list for school milk. The ingredient list has since been removed...or it is just too difficult to access now, but I can't seem to find it.

personal experience- beware! maybe TMI

Began peri-menopause 2 years ago, hot flashes, irregular cycles, insomnia, midriff weight gain... the usual. Gave up all processed dairy, only consuming fresh organic unpasteurized butter... ALL symptoms gone within 2-3 months. All symptoms still gone. Hormones, anyone?

can't remember

exactly when i turned, but I considered it later than most of my peers... and there is no way any of them drank more rbgh milk than me... seriously I am prime suspect guinea pig number one for any experiments needing someone who has been on a milk binge since he can remember... been drinking organic for the past 6 months and trying to get in a milk co-op for the past three months to no avail.

Personal Observation

My niece, who was bought up in California, hit 5 foot 11 inches at 9 years of age! This was probably 10 years ago now. Everyone on our side of the family is tall, but I didn't hit six feet until I was 17, as did my younger brother. Her sister hit that height at age 11.

I've noticed this with other relatives of mine too, where they are hitting puberty much earlier than 'normal', but only in California (I have nephews and nieces scattered over North America, Britain and India). Who knows why?

Don't forget they

shoot up and feed all the animals we eat with hormones too. And it could just be evolution or heredity. When you eat meat there is a big difference in say deli and others with preservitives. Preservitives may play a role. Exposure to pesticides and other chemicals can effect the thyroid and pituitary glands wich also effect hormone levels.

Milk is only one of the

Milk is only one of the problems people face today. As far as I am concerned its the smallest problem. The real culprits as far as I am concerned are plastics in the water and soy products. The plastics mimic estrogen and so does soy. Estrogen is very good for girls and woman but causes feminine traits in growing boys. I have noticed an increase of men with gyno and others with different sexual preferences. It just seems like the average guy is more feminine today then what they were 20 years ago.

NO documentation on soy

There is NO documentation that soy causes feminine traits in boys. Unless you can provide research, please do not make these statements. Non GMO soy is a very good food source for much of the world. Much of the Asian populations rely a lot of this food source and they have some of the biggest populations. No feminization there. I did a research paper on this. Here is a link to just one of the many studies that disproves your statements. What soy does in the bodies of animals is very different than humans. http://www.vitasearch.com/get-clp-summary/14173

Confused About Soy?--Soy Dangers Summarized

http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.html (much more info on the dangers of soy)

High levels of phytic acid in soy reduce assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Phytic acid in soy is not neutralized by ordinary preparation methods such as soaking, sprouting and long, slow cooking. High phytate diets have caused growth problems in children.
Trypsin inhibitors in soy interfere with protein digestion and may cause pancreatic disorders. In test animals soy containing trypsin inhibitors caused stunted growth.
Soy phytoestrogens disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility and to promote breast cancer in adult women.
Soy phytoestrogens are potent antithyroid agents that cause hypothyroidism and may cause thyroid cancer. In infants, consumption of soy formula has been linked to autoimmune thyroid disease.
Vitamin B12 analogs in soy are not absorbed and actually increase the body's requirement for B12.
Soy foods increase the body's requirement for vitamin D.
Fragile proteins are denatured during high temperature processing to make soy protein isolate and textured vegetable protein.
Processing of soy protein results in the formation of toxic lysinoalanine and highly carcinogenic nitrosamines.
Free glutamic acid or MSG, a potent neurotoxin, is formed during soy food processing and additional amounts are added to many soy foods.
Soy foods contain high levels of aluminum which is toxic to the nervous system and the kidneys.

Agree.

Don't hate on the soy. Folks should look into the genetic modification and the PESTICIDE use on soy...and all other crops for that matter.

Here is the bottom line on cow's milk.

Cow's milk is designed for an animal that weighs 150lbs at birth and will grow to 2,000lbs.

Any questions?

Yes (aside from your little "designed" sneak attack).

How would you respond to my statement...

Proteins are used by animals that weigh 150lbs at birth and will grow to 2,000lbs.

How is this relevant?

CHA-CHING!

CHA-CHING!

Cows' milk is given to calves

Cows' milk is given to calves to fatten them up. It does it with humans too. 95% of the world is lactose intolerant. Humans have only been drinking milk for a few thousand years. Not enough to be an evolutionary necessity. Doesn't mean it can't help or that it hurts, but I think people often think we have to have milk to survive.

Also, our milk in the midwest says there is no rBGH anymore on the label. Probably a shit ton of antibiotics though.

IN MY OPINION

Forget dairy all together, but if you have to have it...buy RAW. Make your own yogurt, buy raw cheese (delicious by the way). www.hacres.com Also see http://www.thechinastudy.com/about.html

Are your daughters of normal weight?

Also, early puberty is menarche before the age of 13. I was 11 and way too young. No development until 13. I see that in some girls as long as they are thin. Here is an article that discusses this. http://www.vitasearch.com/get-clp-summary/22689 The IGF-1 levels are higher with the BgH which have been shown to promote cancer. Those are the concerns but being active and having a healthy diet overall helps offset that.

I've mentioned it before here

the milk did not affect my daughters.........they drank a lot of it in the 90's, they are in their 20s now. They were late bloomers. 15ish.....
HOWEVER, my friend's son (same age group) had to have a breast reduction surgery at 16, he was growing them due to the hormones in milk.
I now have a 6 yr old son and only give him organic milk..........
