2 Messages from the National Campaign on Iowa

Building Momentum

The purpose of a political campaign is to win. To do that, you have to constantly build momentum and reach top speed on Election Day. The Ron Paul 2008 campaign is now shifting to a higher gear. The next stop: Iowa straw poll this Saturday.

But before we shift gears, let's remember how our campaign was dismissed by many at first. The "experts" didn't give us a chance. They didn't think we could even get our engine started. What they did give us were their inside-the-Beltway opinions why Ron Paul's campaign for freedom and constitutional government would sputter after only a few weeks.

But the "experts" were wrong. Why?

1. The message: Freedom.
2. The man: Ron Paul.
3. You.

This combination confounds the so-called experts. However, to you and me, it's no surprise at all.

But let's get back to focusing on the future and building momentum.

The Iowa straw poll this Saturday is an important stop along the way for Ron Paul to win the Republican nomination, and then the general election for president. Competing in the Iowa straw poll is important, and it is also expensive.

For example, the entry fee alone is $15,000.00, which gives you the privilege of then having to spend a bunch more. Radio and TV spots, office space, staff, travel expenses, signs, direct mail, phone banks, campaign events, and on and on...all add up to a lot of money...several hundred thousand dollars actually. (Some campaigns are spending even more; much more.)

Dr. Paul and his wife Carol are in Iowa this entire week with a crew of dedicated campaign staffers and hard-working volunteers. Their days start before dawn and end near midnight. But that's what it takes to build the momentum.

Will you help us build the momentum?

We have produced three radio spots and a television commercial just for the Iowa straw poll this Saturday, August 11. The purpose: get Iowans to attend the straw poll and vote for Ron Paul. But for that to happen, thousands of Iowans throughout the entire state will need to hear and see these ads many times, and that will take a bunch of money.

We're already stretching our budget with the expenses I mentioned earlier, so we don't have much left to broadcast our TV and radio ads. We only have a few days left to introduce Ron Paul and his message of freedom and constitutional government to Iowans from every corner of the state.

Dr. Paul and his wife Carol are on the ground in Iowa talking with folks day and night. Help them spread their message of freedom and constitutional government in the air by donating today.

Listen to the three radio ads and take a look at the TV spot. Then make a donation.

During the next few days, thousands of Iowans must hear about Ron Paul and his message -- our message -- of freedom, peace and prosperity.

Donate today. Encourage Iowans with these radio and TV ads to attend the straw poll and vote for Ron Paul. Help us build momentum.

See the ads and make a donation. Go to http://www.ronpaul2008.com.

Thank you!

Kent Snyder
Chairman, Ron Paul 2008

Iowa: Four Items

1. Tickets to Iowa Straw Poll

Thanks to the generous donations of supporters around the country, the campaign has purchased 500 red tickets and will make them available at no charge to eligible Iowan residents who have yet to purchase a ticket for the straw poll. In addition to voting, this red ticket will allow access to the Hilton Coliseum where the candidate speeches will be delivered.

Subject to the provisions below, these tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis to those of you currently without tickets. Please contact our field coordinator, Heather Olson, at heather@ronpaul2008.com and you will receive a voucher for a ticket that can be picked up at the straw poll.

You must be eligible to vote in the straw poll. This means you must be an Iowa resident who will be 18 years of age by November 4, 2008, and have a driver's license, a state ID, a student ID, or a military ID.

To reserve a ticket, send an e-mail to heather@ronpaul2008.com with your name, address and the type of ID you will use. You will be sent a voucher by e-mail to print and bring to the straw poll with your ID. There will be a table at the Ron Paul tent where you can redeem your voucher for a ticket.

RSVP for the straw poll at http://www.ronpaul2008.com/events/iowa-straw-poll/ if you haven't already.

If you don't live in Iowa but know of someone who does, encourage them to attend the upcoming straw poll and vote for Ron Paul.

2. Volunteers Needed for Iowa Straw Poll

If you're coming to the straw poll in Ames, Iowa on August 11 and want to help, the Ron Paul 2008 campaign in Iowa could really use you.

This straw poll is critical to Dr. Paul's long-term success -- as it is the first major test of a candidate's organization -- and we need about 300 volunteers to assist with the event that day (and a little bit the day before and after) from about 6 am - 8 pm. Over 40,000 people will be descending on the Hilton Coliseum Complex and we need to make a good impression and get as many Iowans (non-Iowans can't vote) as possible to vote for Dr. Paul.

For each of the different positions below, we will be putting you in touch with a team captain, and he/she will contact you. You will meet with your team captain and become familiar with the grounds and walk thru what you'll be doing on the day of the straw poll during a dress rehearsal.

We will hold the dress rehearsal on Thursday, Aug 9th at 6 pm (two days before the event). This rehearsal will be held at the Ron Paul tent site (#1) at the corner of Lincoln Way and Beach Street which is at the far northwest corner of the Hilton Complex.

Please note you can do more than one job as long as it doesn't overlap in time with another. Volunteer to help by completing a brief survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=9wWcdaAbGdxNcuARtN_2fC... Check the appropriate boxes describing the volunteer opportunity that you'd like to participate in, and the time.

3. Rally in Cedar Rapids

As our campaign has been gaining momentum in Iowa over the last few days, we have witnessed a large amount of support from all over the state of Iowa and from supporters around the country. We would like to send a heartfelt "thank you" to all our volunteers and supporters for making the success in Iowa happen.

We also want to invite you to a rally and celebration of our volunteers and supporters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Thursday, August 9th at 8:00 pm. The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We are expecting many supporters, both from Iowa and the surrounding areas, to come and celebrate with Dr. Paul.

Help us prepare for the event by completing an RSVP form at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=K8ZIsgeNmfBZoLDufDAcOA.... If you are attending as part of a larger group, please have your organizer or leader fill out this form. If you are attending as an individual, fill out this form for you and your guests. The rally is free and open to the public.

4. Private Briefing in Cedar Rapids

A private briefing with Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, August 9 at 7:00 pm; just before the rally. Refreshments will be served. Dr. Paul will speak, as will national campaign manager Lew Moore, and both will answer your questions. You are welcome to take photographs with Congressman Paul. No press will be allowed.

A minimum donation of $1,000 per person.
