The Hill: Ron Paul and Ben Bernanke are Locked in a Clash of Titans

High-stakes duel between Rep. Paul and chairman Bernanke intensifies

Rep. Ron Paul and Ben Bernanke are locked in a clash of titans.

Paul, the 74-year-old House libertarian from Texas with the high-pitched voice, has fought for decades to kill off the Federal Reserve.

Bernanke, the mild-mannered ex-Princeton professor and chairman of the bank, is waging a high-stakes battle for the Fed’s reputation. And he’s doing everything possible to knock out Paul.

The fight is still in the early rounds. But with the full House expected to vote this week to give government auditors more power to scrutinize the Fed, Paul has the upper hand.

The Senate is a much more difficult round for Paul, though a similar stew of liberal and conservative support is starting to simmer in the upper chamber behind the Republican’s wonky auditing measure.

Bernanke and Paul have never met one-on-one behind closed doors, Paul’s office said. The battle has taken place in public — on blogs, with grassroots activists and during congressional hearings.

Bernanke has testified against the provision, given lengthy media interviews, written op-eds and attempted to lift the cloud of secrecy that hangs over the bank.

The Fed is audited, he argues, but allowing government scrutiny of interest rate decisions will politicize the Fed. Opening the door to congressionally requested audits would compromise the market’s confidence in the bank.

Paul, a longstanding supporter of a new gold standard, made his case formally in his recently published book, End the Fed.

The peoples champion vs Ben "The printer" Bernanke.

Looking for people in Houston, Tx and surrounding areas

That want to understand anything and everything with laws. From criminal court to traffic court to land titles. These concern the codes and statutes for the state of Texas. Private real estate patents, traffic issues, civil law, lawsuits win win win learn learn learn....How can we expect to expedite a return to a strong republic when we do not even have a basic grasp of the laws, the frauds perpetrated concerning the laws to steal your money and very possibly steal your possessions or your person. We've got good people with 30 years knowledge in THE LAW. We ALL NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS. Like the man said you can't defend rights or laws you don't understand or know to exist..Let me know Keith riceowlex@yahoo.com

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

Bernanke's no titan.

He's a mediocre apparatchik.

Ron Paul, the Fed, and so-called independence

So now Bernanke is complaining that he wants more "independence"? How about more responsibility? When are we going to hear about the debasement of the US dollar by the Bernanke gang to the level of a nickel in 1913? When are we going to hear any mea culpas from he and his goodfellas for the burst of the current real estate mortgage bubble, and its attendant mess? Where is his assumption of responsibility of the Fed for turning Wall Street and the market's capital allocation apparatus into a large scale gambling racket?

Independence demands RESPONSIBILITY Mr. B!!

So far, Bernanke's demand for so-called independence of the Federal Reserve sounds more and more like the demand for "independence" of a gang of counterfeiters, con-men, and money launderers from the police and prosecutors.

Anyone else notice the

Anyone else notice the process that this bill is on is taking the molasses route when compared to the thousands of bills that just coast on through. If it was something the statists want, they just fast track it through, but if its not in their interest it it gets the through going over to give them all the opportunities they can to defeat it(which mind you doesnt happen to their statist crap).

It's Not a Clash of Titans

Bernanke is a mental and philosophical midget.

Not Clash of Titans

Who is paying

Who is paying these attack "journalists"?

Sigh. At this point, maybe all publicity is good.

yet another hit piece... I

yet another hit piece... I wonder how many (sh)people will fall for it.

Ugh

What a biased piece of garbage. I like how they explicitly lay out Helicopter Ben's arguments for Fed independence and then refuse to offer Dr. Paul's counterargument, outside of a brief reference to End the Fed. I can only hope it encourages people to read the book, but somehow I doubt it.

What really gets me is the language that is used when describing the bill. It's all designed to present undertones of danger and foreboding with respect to an audit. It's pieces like this that make me want to fight even harder!

Yep, it's a not-so-carefully crafted hit piece! The Hill sucks!

It's good enough to appeal to Paul supporters and get posted on Daily Paul, yet bias enough to negatively influence anyone that does not already support Ron Paul.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

Remember the Titans soundtrack just started playing as I read

hahaha, it works very well with it.

High-pitched? Wonky?

Yeah, only a pathetic writer like Silla Brush resorts to attacks on looks and physical appearance because they have nothing else to attack on.

"The bill has not won over many Democrats in leadership"
Yes, and that's because the Democrats (and not just them) in leadership have sold their soul to the devil.

"Frank rarely loses battles, but an attempt — with Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) — at a deal on the audit issue simply fell short at the committee level."
Yes, Barney Frank is the poisonous snake in the Financial Services Committee. He needs to go.

"Grayson has publicly slammed the Fed, going so far as calling its top lobbyist a “K Street whore” before apologizing."
No need to apologize, Alan. Yes, the top Fed lobbyist is a DIRTY WHORE!

"“I never felt [Frank] was against me,” Paul said."
Dr. Paul says that so the Fat Burger from Massachusetts will let him speak, or else we'll never hear from the good ole doctor. Frank is the dictator of the Financial Services Committee - if you don't take kindly to the fat ass you'll never see the light of day.

when they get both get excited, as has been noted.

I hope Mrs. Paul tapes this headline to the refrigerator

Dr. Paul, of course, would quibble with the headline. He probably thinks we are the Titans!

I'm not sure that makes any difference. We did elect him to represent us.

and in the same breath...

Not too obvious, is it?

There's only one Titan in this fight.

Imagine this.

If one's physical body type looked like the strength of one's character, spirit and soul, how would Dr. Paul look, and how would Ben Bernanke look??!! :>)
