Glennn Beck's penchant for envelope-pushing rhetoric and personalized political attacks often lands him in hot water. But the strangest complaint about the controversial Fox News host's big mouth may have come on Wednesday.
A non-profit group whose goal it is to "promote the understanding of Polish America and Poland, and to advocate for their needs and interests in America" released an statement on Wednesday, admonishing Beck for deliberately butchering Rep. Jan Schakowsky's surname.
The Piast Institute noted that Schakowsky's name "is only three syllables long," and that "its original spelling was altered to make it easy for English speakers to say." And yet, the Michigan-based group adds, Beck "made a hash of pronouncing the surname."
"Our names are a key to our identity, self-esteem and our pride in our heritage and family," WE NEED RESPECT, the statement reads.

Who Cares about the understanding of Polish America and Poland?
Hyphenated-Americans and these special interest groups are really hurting America. I don't mean to single out the Poles, because there are obviously must worse offenders such as NAACP, AIPAC, La Raza who are tearing America apart. Americans should put America first!
Agreed
Also, people from Mexico and Canadia are Americans too... and Brazil... and Chile...
We must live in tolerant times indeed
if this is the worst offense someone's committing against Poles these days.

Only one person in my entire 45 years have ever read and pronounced my name correctly as written in English. Even when I tell people how it is pronounced they can't say it. If I were like rumplestillskin I would have all the queens babies!
So you really belive that everything came from nothing? Wow now that takes faith!

I wouldn't care if they
said my name right, just get the issues and what I say right.

Well of course
this has people upset. It's published by the Huffington Post.
Get a life and get over it
This PC stuff
is making me sick. People have to get over it. I mean really. If they have something really concrete to complain about, fine, otherwise get over it.

there is a fine line . . .
it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--
well-educated and intelligent people find out how to pronounce names.
Only truly intelligent people should be in such positions of 'influence'--
So, I guess such is not the case. Obviously, the MSM doesn't really care about how refined or intelligent or conversant its 'servants' are.
I don't know that it's about being politically correct, though you can call it that.
It used to be that people really cared about being knowledgeble, well-informed and polite.
The loss of that is a loss indeed.
Since Beck is a public figure, let them complain!
In a free market system (which ours obviously is not) Glenn Beck would hurt his employers through his ignorance and lose his job. Since that's not happening . . .
we can understand how low standards of excellence have sunk.
That many no longer care about such things is also a sad fact.
it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--
however, having said that . . .
it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--
the group does sound a bit batty in their response to him--
No one group deserves respect more than any other, but Glenn Beck's inability to speak in a respectful way says more about him than about the people he offends.
