they have the ability to control your electricity use with the new meters they are installing.

My friend was offered $25 as an incentive to have his meter switched over to the new kind. He read the fine print. It says that by signing, he gives the electricity company the right to control his electricity in times of over capacity in the area (you know, the times when you need it most).

He didn't go for it.

He found out after the fact that the electricity company went ahead and changed the meter anyway...and didn't even pay him.

Rights? What rights?

I know the utility companies in California are banding together to get legislation passed to curtail the solar power industry (as told to be my the owner of a solar company in Oakland).

Don't want competition now do we?

that type of action taken at my home would help cut down on energy consumption. None of those guys would be making any kind of foot print again. ;-/
