Arrest & beating of Canadian writer by US border guards makes front page on major Canadian Papers
Submitted by wafflehutguy on Sun, 12/13/2009 - 11:27Police arrested a Canadian science fiction writer after he became aggressive and refused to comply during an inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, a government official said Saturday.
Dr Peter Watts of Toronto was detained Tuesday in Port Huron, Michigan, Customs spokesman Ron Smith told The Associated Press. Mr. Smith said Mr. Watts was trying to cross into Canada at Blue Water Bridge when his vehicle was selected for inspection.
The U. S. District Attorney's office, after reviewing the matter, declined to prosecute. The case is being pursued nonetheless by the local Port Huron police (who were not present at the time of the incident).
Some of the many comments posted at boingboing.net suggest Watts must have had an attitude.
"The question is what is attitude?" he said. "I've been told ... that the mere act of getting out of a car, the mere act of taking any action at all, not simply responding to an order ... is considered attitude. ... What they take offence to is not necessarily what anyone else would find offensive."
If convicted, Mr. Watts faces up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $2,000.
Mr. Watts’ books include Starfish, Maelstrom and Behemoth, known as the ”Rifters Trilogy.“

Officer involved shooting: witnesses claim police brutality
Four witnesses tell 9NEWS the suspect was down on the ground, police officers continued to beat the man.
Police won't comment on the allegations because the shooting is under investigation.
"He raised a gun at the officers; the officers fired, felt fear for their lives, and fired their weapon for their protection," Denver police spokesperson Sonny Jackson said.
Witness Sunshine Alonso says he heard about 6 gunshots, and then ran out to his porch.
"They were telling him shut up. He was screaming the whole time, really loud, screaming for his life. They just kept beating him and beating him, and all of a sudden I didn't hear any more sounds at all. There was no more screaming," Alonso said.
Another witness, who wanted to remain anonymous, gives the same account.
"The one that was on top of him was beating him with his pistol, and I heard the guy scream and after a short minute of the beating there were no more screams," the anonymous witness told us on camera.
2 other witnesses told us off camera the officers continued to hit the suspect when he was already on the ground.
"The police officers that were involved in the whole incident were the same officers that came and asked me for my statement," the anonymous witness said.
The witness says that made him uncomfortable, so he did not fill out a statement.
When he found out the suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital, he says he wanted his account of what happened to be known.

Hey what happened to moose hunting ?
It's perfectly legal to moose hunt along the Canadian/American border.
These friggen Canadian authorities are worse than in the states. Look up
Novas Scotian Rick Simpson "Run from the Cure" on youtube.com He makes his own hash salve that actually is a Godsend and has helped hunfreds of people with all sorts of maladies. He has seen what was thought to be terminal cancer vanish, or so he says. He has done it all free of charge for this his home has been raided three times and now he's wanted for something or other, like threatening the profits of the drug companies. He has essentially pretty well proven that THC salve is a cancer killer/pain reliever. I think it's past time for a good moose hunt.
Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

"Jumping to Conclusions"
Actually "most likely" these "officers" are out of control mad dogs who trampled on this man's rights because he did not lick their boots. Haven't you heard about the police state? Haven't you seen the myriad of videos of police beating innocent people, or are you just another statist apologist?

We don't know the details of
We don't know the details of the case, so what is the purpose of this post?
If Dr. Watts became abusive or violent, maybe he got what he deserved. If on the other hand, he was abused or insulted or intimidated, he might have been justified. We don't know the facts, so we can't really comment.
Personally, I think that most likely the doctor took out his frustrations on the officers. Don't be too quick to judge, or to jump to conclusions.
Correction: We Won't Be Told The Details
Naturally the sequence is normally screwed up to confuse the stupid.
"Watts was charged with assaulting, obstructing and resisting a police officer", is code for Watts first struck the officer, next he interfered with the officer's attempt to inspect his vehicle, and at long last, the officer decided to arrest him and he resisted the officer.
Most likely, Watts initially spoke something indicating his disdain for being searched (resisted), next the officer reacted with mace and handcuffs, next Watts struggled and bumped the officer in his attempts to protect himself from the mace and resist being handcuffed. The bump was probably the 'assault'.
Will you be told the details as they occurred? Probably never.
this is good to see . . .

are the anti-freedom Canadian journalists too busy covering Canada's involvement in Copenhagen to have stopped this?

I first saw this story on the Daily Paul a few days ago.
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/118771
Now its hitting the major papers. It is a terrible story, and gives me great pain to think what has become/is becoming of our country.
I think it is intentional, that America is sending a message to its citizens and the rest of the world, that message being (as I said in a comment on the other thread)(clean version here): "Don't mess with us. At all. Ever."
'Always be yourself. Everyone else is taken.' - Oscar Wilde
I was stopped by US Border guards in the US on my way to Canada
Last September in Buffalo, heading for Ft Erie.
All cars were being stopped and drivers questioned.
First time in my life this ever happened.
