KERA has determined the candidates for The Texas Debates: Race for Governor will include Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Debra Medina and Governor Rick Perry. Each candidate meets the viewpoint-neutral standards found in KERA’s Criteria for Candidate Participation in KERA Broadcast Debates. Among the factors considered regarding Debra Medina’s inclusion were whether she was conducting an active campaign and generating media and public interest. The criteria also allows for consideration of polling data. However, because there is sparse recent polling information, polls played a minor role in the decision to include Medina . The Texas Debates: Race for Governor takes place Thursday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. This is a ticketed event by invitation only.
Republican candidates in the highly-anticipated Texas gubernatorial race will square off in The Texas Debates: Race for Governor on Thursday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. The live debate broadcast to millions on television, radio and online throughout the state will include two-term Texas Governor Rick Perry, three-term U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and former Wharton County Republican Party chair Debra Medina.

Another article confirming Medina in debate
Found here: http://cbs11tv.com/local/gubernatorial.debate.Rick.2.1407159...
Excerpt from article:
Officials with KERA-TV say they're including Medina because she met their criteria, which includes running an active statewide campaign.
Medina credits her supporters with pressuring KERA-TV to include her. "I think absolutely it made all the difference. KERA told me back in September that we would be in the debate… then the game changed a little bit. We've met the criteria they've established for quite some time."
KERA insists no outside influences played any role in their decision. They say they only considered their criteria.
KERA is local to my area and I'm quite familiar with their practices and politics (I've done some contract work for them). I think this is KERA's way of bowing to pressure while saving face by not admitting they were pressured... sort of, "Well, we'll do it... but because we choose to; not because you asked us."
Debra Medina is IN the Debate!

Good Job Eyes Wide open
I love the folks, well most of the folks in Massachusetts. Good as Gold and tough as a boot, no offense on the tough as boot part Eyes LOL !!
Got to say that I'm not to fond of Barney Frank however.

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow
Unfortunately Barney Frank is a sacred cow !!
Most people determine how good a politician is by how much money he can steal from the feds to get for his local community and ole Barney gets the cash! I wish we could get him outta here, believe me. lol
Thanks for the kind words! I'm a former Marine and Police ofc. so I have taken my share of kicks..lol.. hasn't stopped me yet!

KERA Supporters Could Cancel Membership
If you were a KERA member you could call and ask to speak to the foundation people and let them know that you are canceling and not renewing your membership.
And that you are suggesting that your friends do the same.
Why doesn't the C4L sponsor a debate?
I don't understand why the Campaign For Liberty cannot sponsor a debate. Even if Dr. Paul cannot endorse a candidate, there should be no reason his PAC cannot sponsor a debate.
This is How it Works
If one of the dominant party candidates refuses to debate, the other dominant party candidate will refuse, also. Their campaign manager will insist, because:
1. Without the other dominant party candidate, the candidate has classed himself with the alternate party candidates.
2. There won't be enough media coverage.
3. Any benefit from being "classy" for agreeing to debate the alternate party candidates is far outweighed by 1 & 2.
The reason the League of Women Voters stopped hosting presidential debates was because the dominant party candidates refused to debate alternate party candidates. Now they have an "inside" debate host with a mandate to keep alternates out of the debate.
Dr. Paul is correct: it is the height of irony to be "spreading democracy" to other countries.
There will be zero press coverage, or close to zero. C4L still is not big enough to change that, even with Dr. Paul's higher public profile.
I speak as one who stood on street corners with a couple hundred Libertarians outside a California US senators' debate, protesting the exclusion of Judge Jim Gray. Barbara Boxer could have refused to debate unless he was included, but didn't. I guess she doesn't really want democracy.

So what if Rick Perry doesn't show?
If the other candidates, including Senator Huchinson show, Perry will expose himself for the fool that he is.
E-mail to KERA
The cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is closing in on $1 trillion. This is the cost of making these countries so-called “safe for democracy.” What about the cost in terms of counting casualties, including the wounded? Let’s not forget the high human toll suffered by the indigenous people in these countries.
How hypocritical of KERA to host a debate in which one candidate in the gubernatorial primary in Texas, Debra Medina, will not be invited. There is no excuse for such behavior, regardless of who sponsored the debate. KERA is party to an agreement that prevents the public from obtaining proper exposure to a broad spectrum of views, thereby maintaining the status quo, which has turned our country into a one-party state. Look no further than President Obama’s about turn on the Bush/Cheney nation building wars. We do not have democracy at home, but think nothing of spending a trillion dollars to democratize other nations.
We demand Medina’s presence and when the time comes, we want you to invite Kinky Freedman as he brings a refreshing dose of honesty to any political debate. We are sick and tired of these political retreads who are put up on pedestals by the likes of KERA when they deserve nothing more than a thorough public drubbing in a free and fair debate.

I did "Mel Watt: The Gentleman From Wachovia" and "Mitt Romney: Still Brainwashed After All These Years." I could easily produce a PowerPoint regarding Debra Medina and Rick Perry. Just say the word.

The Dallas Morning Star poll
The Dallas Morning Star poll shows she received 7% support. The PBS station criteria says a candidate must reach 6%. WTF?

...like the Dallas Observer: http://www.dallasobserver.com/2009-12-10/news/if-the-rapture...
The Dallas Morning News is even calling them out on this?
As stated below she DID receive 7% in the poll stated:
She is the nurse, businesswoman and Wharton County Republican chair who tallied 7 percent in a University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll last month.
Is that enough? KERA's own guidelines say yes, yet she remains uninvited. Its standard of 6 percent in an "established, nonpartisan poll" is one of three criteria KERA defines as conditions for a debate invitation.
