Happy Bill of Rights Day

Although FDR created Dec 15 as Bill of Rights Day, It is still a day to appreciate what those first 10 amendments have done for us.

Without them we would most likely not have any of the freedoms they describe. Thank God the Founders that pushed for them won the day. What is really amazing is the opposition to them didn't think they were necessary since the federal government didn't have the power to take these rights away in the first place. But history has shown, especially with recent Presidents, that Congress and the President invent all kinds of powers they don't possess.

Happy Bill of Rights Day.

Hooray for the Bill of Rights!

Number 3 is holding strong. Too bad about all the rest. Octobox is correct, "when nobody has rights we'll all be free."

"correct" is often times "un-popular" hahaha -- thanks!

I'd love to hear how you break that down -- I mean I know how I would, but I'm always looking for new ways to say the same thing; never know what language resonates with people the best less your willing to hit 'em from 360 degrees, wink.

Let 'er rip Mike

Never heard of this day.

Isn't that amazing. Go out and exercise your rights.

Maybe we should make this national open carry day from now on.

Nice thread, I agree

to bad we are losing them so rapidly. Happy Bill of Rights Day to You as Well.

I don't mean to be patently negative, but....

..at least six of the ten are routinely violated in this nation, as if they didn't really mean what they say.

1, 2, 4, 5, 9, and 10 are obviously considered optional by the Federal Government (as well as most state governments).

3 is probably never violated, to my knowledge. And as to whether 6, 7, and 8 are violated, I'll leave that to those more familiar with the courtroom to answer.

We are a nation that CELEBRATES rights upon which we do not insist. How screwed up is that?

Seems to me ....It's very mixed up.

Flying the flag upside down as a sign of distress would not be inappropriate.

-I favor extending to Israel the same honest friendship that Jefferson and the Founding Fathers urged us to offer to all nations. ...This means I also favor discontinuing foreign aid to governments that are actual or potential enemies of Israel,--Ron Paul

But that man should play the tyrant over God, and find Him a better man than himself, is astonishing drama indeed!~~D. Sayers

Yes, except that that practice assumes there are friendly forces who will come and save you from without. We are in no such position here; we must, of course, clean up our own mess.

FDR-
