JIM TRAFICANT: CAN HE UNIFY THIRD PARTIES?
Wash, DC conference Feb. 13, 2010!!
By Michael Collins Piper
Former congressman Jim Traficant will make a major speech on national and world affairs in Washington to AMERICAN FREE PRESS supporters and all good Americans who care to come on Saturday, February 13, a holiday weekend.
Monday, February 15, is the official “President’s Day” holiday. The holiday had been known as “George Washington’s Birthday” until Congress, in an ill-considered move, changed the official name. By chance, it is also Valentine’s Day. But it does give you an extra travel day.
Registration for the Traficant conference begins at noon on February 13 at the Capitol Skyline Hotel, located on Capitol Hill in downtown Washington, near the Capitol and the House and Senate office buildings. Call the hotel at: (202) 488-7500 for room details.
Formal events unfold at 2 p.m. with introductions, followed by Traficant’s speech, with question-and-answer sessions. There will be formal breaks and a reception.
Participants will mingle and exchange ideas with Traficant and AFP staff. “You are not coming to Washington just for a speech but for a very special speech,” said AFP’s Peter Papaheraklis, who set up the event. “You will enjoy casually meeting Mr. Traficant, our staff and your fellow patriots.”
Several individuals have put themselves forward as potential leaders of an America First movement. However, Traficant is the one who stands out as having the intellect, the experience, the drive, the emotion, the agenda—and, most of all, the guts—to step ahead of the crowd and address the issues.
Flexible and not hide-bound to ideology, open to solutions, and experienced in government, Traficant has always been non-partisan in the classic sense. Although he served as a Democrat in Congress—nine terms in the House—Traficant was always a genuine independent, a “maverick” in every sense, often voting against the party line in the best interests of the American people.
Jim didn’t get rich while serving in Congress—unlike many others. Instead, he worked hard on behalf of his constituents, bringing jobs into a region where insane free trade policies were shutting down local businesses and putting thousands of folks out of work. Traficant emerged as one of the leading critics of “free” trade at a time when many politicians—Republicans and Democrats alike—were still touting globalist measures such as NAFTA that have savaged the American economy.
They’re backtracking now and starting to sound like Jim Traficant. But Traficant never changed his tune. He’s saying today precisely what he first said 25 years ago when he came to Washington as a member of the House of Representatives.
Prior to serving in Congress, Jim was a popular sheriff in the famed “rustbelt” community in Ohio’s Mahoning Valley. Before that he was a drug counselor, well-versed in one of the most serious problems affecting every community in America Traficant understands the big cities and the small towns and he knows how government works—or doesn’t work—at local, state and national levels. He’s always mixed freely and on a congenial basis with people of all types. He was ranked regularly on an annual basis as “the friendliest member of Congress.”
By instinct a coalition builder, Traficant understands the necessity of uniting diverse groups in order to achieve common goals. But he’s never swayed from saying, right up front, that it’s time to place America First. A classic “grass-roots” kind of guy from Middle America, Traficant understands traditional American values and he’s literally seen it (although not by choice) from both sides of the bars.
He’s seen first-hand how our Constitution and our civil liberties can be uprooted and twisted and how big government—a direct outgrowth of the abandonment of constitutional principles—has expanded exponentially. Traficant never shields away from taking on the FBI or the CIA or the IRS. He’s consistently stood on the side of the people against corrupt government agencies.
And anyone who says that someone such as Traficant, who has spent time in prison, isn’t qualified to lead because his background would be “too controversial” just doesn’t have any real sense of what America is all about. There are millions of Americans—including “nice” people—who have been behind bars (rightly or wrongly) and they have many more millions of husbands and wives and mothers and fathers and children and aunts and uncles and cousins who turn out to vote, who have political opinions.
Anyone who rejects Traficant’s leadership because of his unwarranted time in prison just doesn’t have a serious understanding of American politics or social reality. Traficant is unlike any other politician. He not only wears his seven years in prison as a badge of honor, but he also refused to seek clemency or a pardon because he would not agree to apologize for, or admit to, crimes he did not commit.
But Traficant is unique in many important other ways. Traficant actually talks about the Constitution and what it means and why it’s being ignored.
He says the IRS needs to be eliminated and that a new tax system can supply all the revenue America needs to function without raping the taxpayers every April 15. Traficant also says that the Federal Reserve System isn’t federal—that it’s the creation of and controlled by international banks and financial institutions that have no loyalty to America or the American people—and that the Fed needs to be abolished.
He openly challenges the influence of the Israeli lobby—and other well-heeled lobbies and interests—in official Washington. (Really, how many other politicians can you name who dare to challenge the Israeli lobby?)
Traficant thinks it’s time that America brings its troops home from policing the world and engaging in fruitless and unnecessary foreign wars and put them to work protecting America’s borders and sovereignty from waves of illegal immigrants and potential enemies.
Come to Washington—along with other Americans from across the country—and hear what Jim has to say. It’s time for a Second American Revolution and this could—and should—be the beginning.

NCR/MEK's 10 Point Plan for Iran's Future
1. From our point of view, the ballot box is the only criterion for legitimacy. Accordingly, we seek a republic based on popular vote.
2. We want a pluralist system, freedom of parties and assembly. In Iran of tomorrow, we will respect all individual freedoms. Expression of opinion, speech and the media are completely free and any censorship or inquisition is banned.
3. In the free Iran of tomorrow, we support and are committed to the abolition of death penalty.
4. The Iranian Resistance will establish the separation of the church and the State. Any form of discrimination against the followers of all religions and denominations will be prohibited.
5. We believe in complete gender equality in political and social rights. We also committed to equal participation of women in political leadership. Any form of discrimination against women will be abolished. They will enjoy the right to freely choose their clothing.
6. We want to set up a modern legal system based on the principles of presumption of innocence, the right to defense, and the right to be tried in a public court. We also seek the total independence of judges. Cruel and degrading punishments will have no place in the future Iran.
7. We are committed to the Universal Declaration of Humans Rights, and international covenants and conventions, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention Against Torture, and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of discrimination Against Women.
8. We recognize private property, private investment and the market economy.
9. Our foreign policy will be based on peaceful coexistence, international and regional peace and cooperation, as well as respect for the United Nations Charter. We will establish relations will all countries.
10. We want the free Iran of tomorrow to be devoid of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction.

Could you be fooled into supporting a group offering such a "communistic" plan? I can see why the neocons might declare them "terrorist"...

Many Neoconservatives Support the MEK Communist Terrorists
Many of the neo-conservatives (neo-Trotskyites) have been the strongest supporters of the MEK communist terrorists. See, for example, the Iran Policy Committee website:
http://www.iranpolicy.org/
In 2001, the Federal government closed the office in Washington, DC, of the NCRI (political front group for the MEK). Alireza Jafarzadeh found new employment as a Fox News Channel analyst:

Recall that the Fox News Channel did not invite Ron Paul to participate in the 2008 debate of Republican candidates:

Are you concerned....
Are you concerned at ALL about possibly smearing Traficant's name when he might be innocent? Or are you more concerned about pointing out that MEK is evil regardless and Traficant doesn't matter?
Traficant merely signed a letter along with dozens of other Congressional members that is described below:
"The Congressional letter released today(7/23/95) by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R,Fla), Gary Ackerman (D,NY), and James Traficant (D,Oh), calls on the United States and Europe "to adopt a more determined policy to launch a united multilateral effort to oppose the present Iranian government and encourage democratic change in Iran."
I get the point that you hate the MEK. Regardless of whether the MEK is evil or not it is no reason to jump to accusations and possibly tarnish the name of someone who had good intentions and made a mistake. Can you consider the possibility?
Traficant's signing of the letter is an isolated incident (unless you can show evidence to the contrary). Do you feel you have enough real evidence against Traficant to label him a communist supporter? If so present it please. And I DO NOT want to hear how evil MEK is. I want evidence of Traficant's ssignificant and continuing support for MEK.
Again, I get your point that MEK is probably evil. Do you have enough evidence of continued support of MEK by Traficant to say conclusively that Traficant didn't just make an error in judgement and truly deserves the label "supporter of communism"?
Again, please do not tell me again how evil MEK is. Tell me evidence against Traficant and how you know for sure Traficant is evil and loves communists.
Oh, and give me some evidence that Traficant is in ANY way similar to neocons.

Traficant's Support for Terrorists in Congressional Record
Traficant was not duped once, in an isolated incident, into signing someone else's statement supporting the Iranian Communist MEK. Any internet search will return many hits related to his support. For example, here are remarks he placed in The Congressional Record:

Traficant Supported Communist Terrorists
While a member of Congress, Jim Traficant was one of the strongest supporters of the Iranian Communist MEK (MKO, PMOI, NCRI, Rajavi Cult, or Pol Pot of Iran) terrorists. These terrorists have been on the State Department's list of terrorist organizations since the administration of former President Bill Clinton. They have murdered large numbers of Iranians and Iraqis plus American military officers and Rockwell International employees. In 2003, American and coalition forces attacked these communists at Camp Ashraf, Iraq. In June 2003, some of the cult members burned themselves to death to protest the arrest of a leader in France. The neo-conservatives (neo-Trotskyites) have been protecting and using them to perform or to co-ordinate terrorist activities inside Iran. In 2008, I was a member of Academics for Ron Paul and voted for Ron Paul. I shall never vote for anyone who supports communist terrorists.

As an American who has lived and worked in Iran, including working at the American Embassy, and who has an Iranian wife with relatives who died supporting the MEK, I cannot be duped by the Rajavi Cult.

The NCR/MEK....
The NCR/MEK is an opposition movement to Iran's govt that wishes to replace the theocracy with a secular govt that emphasizes women's freedoms to not wear burkas/veils and greater freedoms with respect to education and the workplace.
NCR/MEK was not declared a terrorist organization by the US until 2001. Prior to that they were considered an offshoot of the Mujahadeen, who were considered heroes in America after the US funded them to kick the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan.
Traficant entered a statement in the records of a meeting in general support of the NCR. Again, at the time NCR was viewed as wanting to bring a secular govt to power in Iran that would focus on women's rights and human rights in general. NCR was generally supported by hundreds of Congress persons at any given time during this period.
Trying to claim that Traficant supports communism and terrorism in general by pointing to a statement made during a period when the Mujahadeen were considered heroes by the vast majority of Americans and nearly a majority of Congress supported the NCR is a very weak accusation. People make mistakes in judgement.
Again, the US did not declare them terrorist until 2001, years after Traficant made his statement, and last year Britain took them off their terrorist list.
Also, the US has been funding MEK and supplying them with weapons to de-stabilize Iran since 2003 or so.
Following are the ten points of NCRI's political plan for Iran:
MARYAM RAJAVI'S TEN-POINT PLAN FOR FUTURE IRAN
7. We are committed to the Universal Declaration of Humans Rights, and international covenants and conventions, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention Against Torture, and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of discrimination Against Women.

http://ncr-iran.org/content/view/6031/1/
Notice that the leader of NCRI is a female and they support absolute freedom of private property and the free market along with complete freedom of speech and assembly among other admirable goals.
I wish we could have those 10 points in our country. They sound more like Ron Paul and the Bill of Rights than Stalin, Lenin or Mao. Maybe that's why the Neocons declared them terrorists, because they support freedom.

Rajavi Cult Lies
Entire books have been written refuting these points. Read, for example, Anne Singleton's book Saddam's Private Army.
http://www.iran-interlink.org/?mod=view&id=849
Anne Singleton and her Iranian husband were members of the MEK. The leader is a man, Massoud Rajavi. Even the New York Times Magazine reported in 2003 that many Iranians refer to him as the Pol Pot of Iran. They do not support capitalism. Their reference to free markets is to the model of Communist China. Yes, Communist China has stock exchanges now--and totalitarian rule. Anyone who has read Milton Friedman's Capitalism and Freedom knows these two are not the same.
Paul Sheldon Foote
Dude...
This is not about whether the MEK is evil. This is about Traficant signing a letter in 1995 with a few dozen other Congressional members described as follows:
"The Congressional letter released today by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R,Fla), Gary Ackerman (D,NY), and James Traficant (D,Oh), calls on the United States and Europe "to adopt a more determined policy to launch a united multilateral effort to oppose the present Iranian government and encourage democratic change in Iran."
The statement/letter did not contain "MEK" or "Mujahidin-e Khalq" anywhere in the document.
Is it POSSIBLE Traficant never intended to give approval of MEK specifically, since the title or acronym of the group was nowhere to be found in the statement? Again, I fully understand how bad you hate the MEK. Do you have evidence that Traficant has expressly and specifically supported MEK?

As with some other communist organizations, the MEK uses many names, front groups, and ad hoc committees.
