Letters to your Senators about H.R. 1959
People, write a letter to both of your senators, in any state(s) in which you claim residence to encourage them to vote against 1959, the "Homegrown terror and radicalization" bill. It already passed the house 401-6 or something like that. I concede that this is a long shot, but we can't bitch and moan if we didn't do anything to stop it. Here's my letter, not eloquent or comprehensive, but I'm trying:
Dear Senator ______,
I wanted to write to encourage you to vote against H.R. 1959. I know that it seems a good idea, but in the long run, it presents a threat to our civil liberties. Ask yourself whether this bill will substantially add to our national security, whether it will prevent any activity not already accounted for by current law. Further, ask yourself whether you cannot, in the future, see such a law being misused to hamper free and healthy dissent? "Homegrow terrorism" could be interpreted very broadly, to include almost anything displeasing to those in office. This is not the purpose of government in the United States. I am a conservative, in the traditional sense of the word, believing that the laws should help protect the individual from others, and from the government. Please, please vote against this unnecessary and dangerous law.

I posted a thread on Dailypaul back in October after the House passed HR1955 with little or no discussion and also with a huge majority. I had called my Senator, Claire McCaskill and she happens to be on of the Committee for Homeland Security which is where the bill is right now. I told her aid my concerns and she said that Senator McCaskill felt the same way that I did and the bill may die in committee. I don't want to feel content with that so I told her aid to tell the Senator to vote NO on S1959 if it came to a vote on the Senate floor. I also called my other Senator and stated if the bill came to the floor to vote NO or otherwise he might as well burn the Constitution.
I just emailed both Senators as a followup and suggest to others that they not only call their Senators but also follow up with an email. We have to stop this bill in its tracks.

S.R. 1959 "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007" is probably the WORST law that has ever had a chance of being enacted in our country. It will totally take away our freedom of speech. Under this law, participants on this forum such as this could be charged, found guilty, and prosecuted according to it's statues. R.S. 1959 was read twice in the House and forwarded to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs for their evaluation and decision as to whether or not it even gets to go before the Senate for a vote. They have the power to squash R.S. 1959 and never have it leave their Committee. That is what needs to happen!
We need to contact, actually, we need to BOMBARD the members of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, not the Senators. Joe Lieberman is the Chairman of this Committee and he is Bush's boy as far as supporting the war and terrorism issues.
This bill overwhelmingly passed the House, and the Senators are just assuming it should be approved by them. I called Wyden and Smith here in Oregon, and their offices BOTH told me this exact thing. We need to let all the members of the Committee know that this bill MUST NOT LEAVE THEIR COMMITTEE for a vote by the Senate. Our Senators WILL want to pass this bill.

If you click on each member of that committee, it will give you their contact infomation. Email them, call them, write them letters -- BOMBARD THEM! Let them know this bill is an ATROCITY AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

We need to do this NOW -- I was told by one Senator's office that they expected this bill out of Committee and back to them for a vote before Christmas. DO THIS NOW!
It won't hurt to also contact the Senators, just to get a jump on it. And, if, by chance, the bill comes out of Committee and goes before the Senate, THEN we need to bombard our Senators. Till then, we need to stop it cold in it's tracks. Click here for your Senators contact info:

Link for Homeland Security Committee?
Someone had posted a link with the phone numbers and email addresses for the members of the Homeland Security Committee? I had called all of the Democrats on the Committee but didn't have time to call all of the Republicans. If someone has the link could you please post on this thread?

If this becomes law, your words could be considered "promoting an extremist belief system", and all they have to say is that you are using PLANNED OR THREATENED *FORCE* (DOES NOT HAVE TO BE VIOLENCE) by exposing CORRUPTION, CRIMINALITY against "THE CIVILIAN POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES, *****OR ANY SEGMENT THEREOF" READ THE BILL MANY TIMES AND VERY CAREFULLY--YOU ARE THE TERRORIST (WHICH MEANS THEY CAN STRIP YOUR CITIZENSHIP, AND HAVE YOU TORTURED AND EXECUTED).
