The Growing Movement to Nullify National Health Care

In response to what some opponents see as a Congress that doesn't represent their interests, State Legislators are looking to the nearly forgotten American political tradition of nullification as a way to reject any potential national health care program that may be coming from Washington.

This Tuesday, 10-27-09, Kansas State Senator Mary Pilcher-Cook and other state legislators will be announcing a “Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment” – a proposal for a state constitutional amendment that would effectively nullify national health care in that state. (h/t Jeff Matthews)

Already, four states are considering similar amendments, and more than 15 may see them introduced in the 2010 legislative session.

JEFFERSON CITY — One Missouri representative has sponsored legislation that would give Missouri residents a choice when it comes to a national health care reform bill.
Rep. Cynthia Davis, R-O'Fallon, pre-filed a bill Dec. 1 that, if approved by voters, would effectively put a halt on any national health care legislation. Davis said her intent was to give voters a way to protect themselves.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - While Congress debates health care reform, Tennessee lawmakers are sending a strong message to Washington. The state Senate has passed a bill that essentially said if Tennesseans do not like the new health care plan, they do not have to take it.

People are learning that that sentence is not the truth and is loaded with tons of deception.

Great post meekandmild, which I really don't think you are about liberty!

This would be big!

Hi meekandmild...

My 2 cents...

I think it's great for states to nullify any type of Federal mandate.

I just wrote an article that I believe addresses the real problem with health care and have offered solutions you might be interested in:

This is truly important. All

This is truly important. All we really need is one, or a few, places of some relative liberty, and the statist drones will be unable to rely on their usual tactic of pouting "but if it wasn't for us, things would be even worse" when the horror of things become obvious even to the public school indoctrinated half wits they currently rely on for support.

Lets hope we get success in nullification in some of these areas, and that this emboldens states to go further, until finally some brave state or municipality starts protecting their citizens from forced Fed taxation, and forced Fed inflation tax (by conducting official business in gold and nullifying legal tender laws.)

and then you could live where *I* do . . .

I live in a large state; half of the state is "old" democratic with socialistic leanings; the other half of the state is independent and libertarian, BUT the most rebellious people are in the 'socialistic' center--

it could get VERY interesting--

not all states are homogenous--

*we* are divided a lot--

when those who want their guns and are loud enough about it come up against those who want nationalized health care . . .

!

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

As the Administration get

As the Administration get bolder, issuing a "Presidential Directive" to the state governors, legislators and governors in some states are putting on notice that they intend to ignore his directive.

This is really the reason for the existence of groups like the Oath Keepers and the Committees of Safety. We are sliding towards dictatorship. An Executive Branch that has been issuing "Executive Orders" aimed at individuals outside the Executive Branch, and now "Presidential Directives" to the governors of the states.

At the same time, this same administration is demonizing returning Iraqi veterans, Ron Paul supporters, gun owners and other "politically incorrect" Americans as "potential terrorists" to law enforcement around the nation.

Now that's what I call the handwriting on the wall.

This could start a whole nullification trend!

Let's see what's next - I know how about nullifying Federal Income Tax and Educational Mandates!!

I'd like to nullify about 7

I'd like to nullify about 7 extra pounds around my waist, but I'll work on that myself. ;)

Support freedom and liberty candidates in 2012... Ron Paul... Gary Johnson...

End the personal 'Income' tax!

And nullify any and all executive orders!

That's right. It's OK to not be forced to pay for healthcare BUT

That's right. It's OK to not be forced to pay for healthcare, BUT ONLY IF CERTAIN PEOPLE SAY SO.

Hope more states follow their leads!

I'm all proud of our Commonwealth! YES! ^5

maybe when healthcare gets passed it will just be for DC

after most if not all states nullify health care.

Hey, they earned it!

LOL

What are you fightin' for?
Caught in the middle?
Freedom is only for those with the guts to defend it!

The problem is....

They will exempt themselves, just as they do with other laws restricting freedom. (Tom Coburn in the Senate is one of the gutsy ones, he tried to tack an amendment on that would require the Congress to partake in the same buffalo chip plan that we will be forced to use, of course, his amendment failed) Coburn does deserve kudos for trying, though.

Big plans

many people/groups involved here in Va. Hope every state takes the needed steps to prtect themselves from this and other unconstitutional attempted mandates from the federal government. It is ridiculous that we have to fight for laws that already exist.
Guess it is not a bad idea to remind them and maybe they will start to read the constitution once they figure out we won't just let them trample it.

I love this 10th amendment

I love this 10th amendment stuff, first montana with their guns now Kansas with health care.

hopefuly Alaska will follow suit on both counts ( we are already working a bill similar to montana for guns)

Some States are using the 10th

anti-real ID, freedom firearm acts, marijuana legalization, and now health care freedom.
