Start a group that is anti-establishment but with no party or candidate affiliation. Hold a protest, tell the media what you are up to, but make it clear that you do not support any candidate or party but are in search of an honest American to send to congress, senate or the White House.
Then, when the time comes, selectively pick your candidate and announce at the right time to maximize media attention.
People will have already been attracted to you because you have no pre-existing affiliation so you will not alienate anyone.

what ?!!?
and waste my vote? no way.

Nice in theory...
However, by not having any pre-existing affiliation you would have actually alienated everyone.
Except, possibly, diehard anarchists.
I love your thought, but you are dealing with a civilization that has been programmed to respond to the word TEAM.
We are the only species on the planet that sends our children out into the world with no idea on how to procure food without an entire species-derived network delivering it. There is no life without electricity and the entire economic framework that goes with it.
So individuality is in short supply... :(
