What would you do in my shoes?

I am Operations Manager for an offshore company and have an upcoming job in the next few days. This job is off the coast of Nigeria and we all know the risk involved. I presently have enough employees to fill this job but it is kind of a personal problem also. I took a $40,000 cut in pay about four months ago and we could use the added income.

My problem is this. My wife (her birthday is today 1/6 which makes this harder) would like me to take this job and go on it myself( the owners also think this) with one less employee. It would be good for us (personally) immediately but I am not sure it is good for the company or us personally, in the long run. Now, I trust my wife for she is a CFO for an international organization( US, Canada, Mexico) and is a lot more in tune than I.

My belief is that if I send the employees and fulfill this job we get that many more jobs in that part of the world. It also allows me to train another group (one half of the present crew) to begin creating another group to have two crews that I can trust in the future with the potential to grow the company. I would like to know your opinions. Yes I have already made up my mind and nothing will change that. I would just like a different opinion.

What are your opinions? Growing a business is hard. It is even harder when you don't own it but they trust you and your judgement.
