When we make an "actual" dent then and only then are we "heroes" of the Revolution
Submitted by OctoBox on Sat, 01/16/2010 - 15:11[Updated]: For those of you who are hyper-sensitive I'm not saying anything to you that I'm not saying to myself -- This thread is meant to be "honest reflection." The entrepreneurs / coaches/ meditators / athletes among you will not take offense.
We love to back slap ourselves over what we've done.
Just a little Liberty Fact Check:
1) Has taxation (direct and indirect) gone up or down
---over the last 3 years?
2) Has getting one liberty candidate changed #1?
---Has our forecasting improved? If so, do we actually think getting them elected will do anything?
3) Has one Bill we thwarted effected #1?
4) Did we get our guy into office?
---Do we believe that the "president" actually controls anything at all?
It's important to be honest with what we've done and it's effects on #1 above.
#1 is the revenue engine for: Foreign Fed-Wars, Housing Bubbles, Business Cycles, Lost Purchasing Power, and Corporatism.

I'm afraid...
1. Our voting system is fixed.
2. Our elected officials (vast majority) do not defend, protect nor adhere to the constitution.
3. Our judiciary does not uphold the constitution.
Octobox has a point. And some alternative ideas (not expressed here.)
So Octobox, bring it on...
Many small victories add up to large victories
The NWO incrementalists understand this concept, we're just waking up to it.

I have gotten all 7 council
I have gotten all 7 council members and mayor of my city voted out in the past two years.
*back pat*
I said very specifically what have we done that has changed #1 above.
How about this -- What have we done to even "slow it down" -- meaning slow down taxation (direct and indirect)?
The answer is we've (no one in the U.S) has done ONE THING to slow it down.
If we analyze all that we HAVE done we might know what will work or at least what has never worked once in all human history -- to stop tax theft.
I'm trying to drive people to the conclusion; "let's try something never tried" or to admit that if we move forward with what has never EVER worked in all human history is equivelant to Einstein's definition of insanity.

local action in the last few months
My mayor tried to introduce a tax on home based business. I stopped that in discussion before it even went to a vote.
I rallied other city council members to reject signing away our local sovereignty when we rejected FEMA's flood plain management program.
I convinced our city to stop sending money to the county for a special communications fund.
Slowing down: I got us to approve a big capital expenditure at a lower price point, rather than the more pretty and more expensive option. This was going to happen (I was the only NO vote), so I reduced the spending.
In my experience, a seat on city council works!

How are the new ones working out?

excellent
We can change this from the bottom up at the local levels.
You may want to check if your city council agreed to FEMA's flood plain study in 2009. If so, then they bound your city to follow FEMA's rule making in whatever FEMA says is a flood plain.
On my city council, we sent FEMA's consultant home.

There's nothing negative about this thread
I was just suggesting we stop and "honestly" reflect on what we've "ACTUALLY" accomplished.
I'm an entrepreneur and so I guess this is not typical relfection for none entrepreneurs.
I'm a meditator and defensive tactics coach. Meditation and Coaching also puts a very high stress on this type of reflection -- it's crucial.
For those of you who love football or basketball (whatever sport) you should stop watching it all together because those coaches and players always self-analyze.
There are 20 threads on DP where we "clap hands and pat backs" -- I thought ONE thread could be dedicated to honest self and group assessment.

Considering what we are up
against I am proud of myself just being here and posting. lol Your goals are pretty lofty. I am happy just to continue to educate and warn people to how they are being manipulated and lie too. That both parties work for the same master we work for, the FED. I am trying not to lose my soul or mind that alone will be an accomplishment.

OctoBox I admire your sarcasm?(Hopefully).
This is most certainly satire for until you show me what you have PERSONALLY done to accomplish #1 other than denigrate efforts of others you are just hot air.
I don't mean to create a flame war but every time I see you post something it seems to be nothing other than to belittle someone or a group that has a desire to improve how things are. So now, show what YOU PERSONALLY have done to make a difference. Where have you made a difference.
Everything starts in small steps. Evidently you disagree so therefore show me what you have done .

You hope to admire my sarcasm or you do?
Or are you hopeful that I'm ONLY being sarcastic?
I'll move forward based on what you wrote.
"What have I done?"
----Nothing! Nothing has changed #1.
The only thing I've done is to suggest an altnernative
---something that has never been tried once in all human history (save Gandhi -- and my suggestion is a modern version).
I don't slap my own back for coming up with an idea.
I'm an entrepreneur -- I'm an idea guy, but I can't "bank" on creativity; I can bank on investor money or revenue earned, smile.
This thread is very clear in its language -- "honest reflection" so we can "assess" and move forward with "workable ideas."

#1
Taxation is also the main mechanism of control over our lives.
"It is always darkest before the dawn". What I mean to say is that yes we do focus too much on these elections, certainly the ones at the Federal level. Soon the level of government will have to shrink because it will be left with no other choice. Government jobs and government funded contract jobs already outnumber the private sector. Look at us, we already live in fantasy land, like 1984 but not quite as gloomy yet.
Quietly I really hope the "Health Care" bill passes because it is one more straw on the camels back, too bad they can't keep the public option alive. Where we should focus is at the local and state levels preparing to fill the vaccum with liberty minded folks so that when the tipping point comes we don't end up with the crazy statists and criminals behind the steering wheel.
Thanks Idaho

I think the liberty movement is in the
foundation-building stage. We can't erect magnificent edifices on weak foundations. First we have to educate and win hearts and minds, strengthen the moral culture of this land and the world as a whole.
It's hard to be patient, but there is no other way.
Reedr: Liberty is not an ediface -- It's continuous construction
then destruction -- that's anarchy.
That's entrepreneurialism and innovation actually.
I got what you were saying though -- I disagree because of my study of history, not because you are not a sincere patriot or a good DPer / RPer.
My disagreement is thus: A Union can be part of a Individualist Society as long as it's very-very-very Temporary.
The Liberty Movement we got going here has already be co-opted by the MSM (Beck and now Hannity wants in).
Tea Baggers (etc).
We are building a third party which is a "Permanent Union"
If we want to live in a free-market then we need to listen to the two greatest advocates of freedom: Mises and Gandhi (well of course our very own Ron Paul *cha-ching*)
What did they say and/or How did they do it?
Mises (not in exact phrasing) was essentially in favor of counter-economics -- as a means to "keep" a free-society.
Gandhi used (not by phrasing) counter-economics to free his Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and Hindu brethre/sistren. Called it Satyagrahi, he called it Ahimsa, and the notion of non-participation and cottage industries. Essentially: Localism and Working under the Table.

Ok, edifice was the wrong word choice.
I think we agree, I just meant, before we can be effective in ridding ourselves of your #1 we must increase our numbers through the frustrating time of educating, one mind and a time and through direct action of building alternate local or trust-based economies -- though the internet and our grassroots educator-army have speeded up the process astonishingly.
Reedr: I agree with you 100% in spirit -- but I'm afraid we are
missing the boat here and I'm not saying I have the solution; because it's multi-faceted problem.
I know the answer will not look like anything that's ever been tried.
I know we will need localism and the internet simultaneously -- and if we want mass numbers to join in addition to these economic problems as a nation (et al) we must solve their personal problems; joblessness and free-market wealth generation.
I'm thinking of BNI + the Master Mind Concept + Buying Clubs + Localism + Education.
It must be a death blow to the Fed, Lobbyists, Senior Politicians, Corporatists, and Unionists at the same time.
Counter-Economics (which is Localism and Non-Participation) + a BNI type network (for entrepreneurialism, innovation, and passive income streams).
I'm waiting for people to get fed up over the ballot box shuffle

Our first major success will
Our first major success will probably be HR 1207.
...
It's a fraction of a "success" if we use #1 above as the goal.
If the goal is to get something we wanted through the ballot box then year; but the right-seeking-ballot-box-express is why we have issue with #1 above.
