Consumer Alert! Don't eat enriched foods

This is sick! This is what people are innocently eating.

I say if man made it....don't eat it!

Upsetting to say the least....

Yep, there's iron in there

I wonder how well that family I knew as a kid who only ate biscuits and lard gravy would have done if the flour wasn't enriched.

Defend Liberty!

I guess the better point to

I guess the better point to make is that to fortify or enrich any food product does not make it healthy...or real for that matter.

Write and ask what they use.

Besides iron, nickel and cobalt are ferromagnetic.

Nickel can pose a health hazard to certain individuals. The most common health problem is called nickel allergy. Some people are more likely to develop nickel allergy than are others. People who are sensitive to nickel may develop a skin rash somewhat like poison ivy. The rash becomes itchy and may form watery blisters. Once a person gets nickel allergy, it remains with him or her forever.

Free includes debt-free!

This was a ridiculous demonstration!

So, what this man "proved" is that iron, IN ANY FORM, is magnetic. DUH! It does NOT matter if it is metallic iron (which is specifically NOT used in foods), or iron in a combined form such as iron sulfate --- it is the iron ATOMS which are magnetic, and are going to be magnetic regardless of what chemical form they are found as. To imply that because the iron supplement in the cereal is pure METALLIC iron just because it is magnetic is disingenuous and misleading of him, and as far as I'm concerned this man's scientific credibility is nil.

Not defending this

but food processing has gotten better over a hundred and fifty years, the first cans actually killed people in a matter of months.
I once cut into a Banana Nut bread and in the middle was a large"Nut"as in machine fastener covered with grease that had gotten baked into the batter. It had fell off the machine.
You are right though, processing has its draw backs, but all of my family eating canned foods lived a long and healthy life.

Come on!

I dare you to try this with Spinach or a Steak (high in iron) and get the same effect..

There was actually metal shavings in this food that has been enriched.

I'll stick with natural food thank you...

Sigh

And so this would explain why so many vegetarians have problems with getting enough iron in their diet right?

Those little particles are fine for our digestion track. We crunch up lots of things to that size and swallow them.

Another thought

since when does spinach, beans or other iron sources of food respond to magnets?

As I'm sure you know there are many different forms of iron.
The food sources or dietary iron are heme and non-heme groups and are bioavailable to the human body, some more than others.
The Iron this Dr is speaking of is a synthetic version of iron that has been added ... See Moreback into foods such as cereals and grains.

When a food has been refined they grind it, bleach it and brominate it. This loses many of the nutrients so they add them back into the foods.

When they enrich foods they add additional vitamins to the product and these are usually synthetic, just like the vitamins we take in the morning are.

The problem is that this synthetic form of iron is toxic in large doses.

Do you have any idea how much refined foods the American people eat in a day? It is recommended by naturalist to take Feosol Carbonyl found at Target or Costo instead.

You're claiming that the iron

You're claiming that the iron is man made and that's what makes the difference?

And yeah, if you distill out the iron from spinach you'll have magnetic iron. Just a different process to remove it, but it can be done, and it's still magnetic.

The Iron this Dr is speaking of is a synthetic version of iron that has been added ... See Moreback into foods such as cereals and grains.

More BS. Iron is Iron. If you're talking about other elements added on top of the iron, we can talk, but Fe = Fe.

What chemical form are you speaking of for "synthetic iron?" And don't tell me it's Iron oxide, that's obviously not true. Ferrous iron is fine if ingested with other foods. ANYTHING out there is poisonous for you if you consume enough directly of it, and iron supplements should be taken with the advice of a doctor and discontinued if you've got a weak stomach.

ANY form of iron is toxic in large doses. Doctor is wrong and working the scare tactics unfortunately. Wouldn't be the first time.

Eric Hoffer

sigh

I'm going to unfortunately need to call BS here.

What does he think biodigestible iron vs harmful iron is?

It's a dramatic demonstration, but that's all it really is. Do you guys understand how toxic the chemicals are inside our bodies? We're full of bacteria and acids and all sorts of crap. Iron is NECESSARY for our bodies to function.

His whole point seems to be, "Iron is magnetic, and you don't want to eat things that are magnetic."

I can't bring myself to agree with his point unfortunately. It's a scare tactic. "Oh no, you don't want to eat metal do you?!" Well no, but I don't want to eat a chunk of potassium either. Nor do I want to overingest and take down an entire iron bar, as the format isn't one suitable for digestion. Before you nail me on, "omg he's making the point that it's not suitable for digestion!!!1!" my point is that our teeth aren't capable of reducing the iron to pulp enough for the digestive acids of our stomach to take care of business.

Unless he can show that it's the relative size of the iron particles that is a danger, he has no argument.

Eric Hoffer

No, I won't eat

a chunk of potassium and if I was able to extract a chunk out of bread I would think twice about eating the bread...

For Freedom!
The World is my country, all mankind is my brethren, to do good is my religion.

And yet if you distill it...

If you take that bread and remove every piece of it except the potassium, that's what you're left with.

You guys all do realize that "minerals" are actually the same as the rocks right? Essentially? At their most basic forms?

Please take a look at the Periodic Table of Elements. You'll notice iron is there.

You realize if you DON'T eat iron you'll end up with anemia right? That iron deficiencies can actually be cured with, and get this, IRON ENRICHED FOODS LIKE CEREAL.

Eric Hoffer

Distill Moldy Rye Bread

and you have what?

Eric

You are correct and I can't or have no reason to argue with you about these minerals being in food.

The point is, why not just eat food? As stated above, Spinich has potasium, iron etc....

Why must we grate metal shavings in food to give it nutritional value? It's not right. It's Frankenfood!

For Freedom!
The World is my country, all mankind is my brethren, to do good is my religion.

lol

I'll agree that natural foods ARE in fact better. Don't get me wrong here. I'm not trying to argue that this is a great plan. We'd be much better off if people would just eat healthy natural foods in the first place.

BUT what this Doctor is trying to push is still illogical and incorrect. Spinach is a crappy source of iron, but you're right in that there are plenty of others. I'd prefer we not shave metal particles into food, but that DOESN'T make them toxic or a danger to our children and I resent the fear being played off of. We have enough things to worry about without these "demonstrations" having attention paid to them.

Eric Hoffer

All right then
