This is an easy way for Americans overseas to donate since the form allows for "countries".

The way your donation link works now is quite cumbersome for those wanting to donate from outside the US.

but purchasing goods from a campaign I think is still a donation from a foreign national and not allowed for federal campaigns. Just US citizens/green cards can donate. On the store idea I would have to doublecheck with the FEC to be absolutely sure.

Much humbled by support from abroad, I have to admit I've never ever considered giving money to a foreign politician.

Correct, foreign nationals cannot donate. However the 6+ million Americans overseas can.

When you set up the "Additional Donations" button, you either have the person "tick" or cut and past into a text box...

"I declare that I am a US citizen or permanent resident over the age of eighteen."

button on Medina's site is only because her regular donation form isn't set-up for "countries". It took a while to get Ron's staffers to correct this problem as well.

The problem with your site, it seems is that you are going through some sort of company that collects donations? Is that right?

As soon as that website "sees" that the person clicking has a foreign IP, they are blocked and made to either call or email for "further instructions". People just aren't going to go to the trouble.

Having the "Additional Donations" on your site for both US and foreign gets around this. Since it's still a donation, and not a campaign product, donation rules would still apply -- not rules for purchasing campaign products.

Anyway, I see this a lot. Just about every campaign leaves money on the table. Americans overseas are highly political and vote/donate more often than those stateside.

Just a suggestion.

and I added it to my last Medina MB great idea for expats and so on...can't donate buy stuff from the candidate's store!

Times really are tough, the major components to my winning is really my dedication and time (check!) and the ongoing and upcoming efforts of volunteers.

However, a congressional race has a wide area to cover to spread the message, so hopefully this money bomb will give me the necessary funds to wage an effective campaign. If we hit $20K, I will be biting the bullet and donating another $5K to my campaign, which is a significant amount for me. I eat oats mixed with bananas for a little variety myself :)
