John Williams / Shadow Stats.com Interview on King World News

Every Saturday morning Eric King of King World News posts great new interviews of the movers and shakers of the financial world. This week he interviews Rob Arnott & Bill Fleckenstein. After listening to these, I got to browsing Eric's archives and catching up on some of the interviews I missed in the past.

Of special interest to Daily Paul readers will be his December 4, 2009 interview of John Williams of ShadowStats.com and their discussion of John's Hyperinflation Special Report. The report begins:

The US economic and systemic solvency crises of the past two years are just precursors to a great collapse - a hyperinflationary great depression. Such will reflect a complete collapse in the purchasing power of the US dollar, a collapse in the normal stream of US commercial and economic activity, a collapse in the US financial system as we know it, and a likely realignment of the US political environment...

In light of the recent stock market collapse - 5% in one week (an amount it took the previous 10 weeks to gain), the victory of Scott Brown in Massachusetts, and the uncertainty surrounding the reappointment of Ben Bernanke, I think you will agree that this is a very timely interview. On ShadowStats.com, John estimates current US unemployment at 22%

It seems to be unanimous.

The people who tell us the truth, like Ron Paul, are all saying the same thing. Here are two more: Richard Maybury and Jim Powell. Here's a link.

Sobbering! Thanks.

I imagine that any foodstuffs or personal care items would make good barter material.

Does anyone have an insight into whether today's coinage would suffer the same fate as paper? It's not really debt money. However, in the past, most of the coins had intrinsic value (silver content). Today they're just base metal.

I wonder what happened to coins in Argentina?

Not sure about Argentina

but US pennies were 95% copper up through 1982. They had to change because the copper was worth more than one cent.

There was silver in US coins (other than pennies) up to and through 1964.

freaking out

so this stuff always gets me freaking out.

so what's the insurance plan we all need?
junk silver coins
gold coins
a garden
get off the energy grid
food stores
toilet paper

how much of each, per person?

Most importantly don't freak

Most importantly don't freak out ;)

It could get ugly, there may be battles ahead, but nobody knows how this thing will play out. People who tell you they know are full of sh*t. You can always imagine your own version of how it will turn out, a beautiful, positive version that ends in freedom and liberty. If everyone else in this movement can just hold a thought like that, we might just pull it off.

ah... i like calming comments. prepare but be optimistic. that sounds good.

Wise Investment?

Residential solar or wind, get off the grid because you heard it loud and clear "HYPERINFLATION". Just imagine NOT having to pay an electricity obligation every month or never again. You can also design a residential system in generating more power than your household consumes and use the extra amount generated for trade.

Seeds is another investment to consider because in a dollar collapse grocery stores will be either empty or closed down due to social unrest. What I've read about seeds so far and food shortages in China, India, and 3rd world countries it's a possibility that the value of seeds could be worth more than gold?

Third party comment

If you listened to the interview, you heard John Williams talk about the possible quick rise of a "third" party (outside of Dem & GOP).

Question for discussion: What is the probability of that third party, should it arise, being born of the liberty movement versus the tyranny of a government preying on the fear of its citizens (a la Third Reich)?

Good point

The media seems fond of talking about how Scott Brown "came from nowhere," which really isn't the case. He was a two-bit GOP state senator for quite a while who happened to have a soundbite go viral on YouTube that captured the Zeitgeist of the moment - "With all due respect, its the people's seat." Now they're talking about him running for president. With his good looks and relative inexperience, I'm sure he'd be an easy puppet to control.

Odds on favorite for a third party, at the moment, is Sarah Palin.

However, one thing to think about - and I don't know if they are or not - is that the C4L is in a great position to break off into a 3rd party, if it so chose. More than anyone else in this movement, it has the resources:

1) A large member base - at least 200,000
2) Proven fund raising ability
3) Name recognition and presence
4) Unity under a well known, well respected leader at the head in Ron Paul.

The question is whether they have the vision to grab this. If so, THE TIME TO DO IT IS NOW! No one else in our movement has the respect to motivate and animate this group.

Without Ron Paul, this movement is pretty fractured. It all hangs together thanks to Dr. Paul. Only 22K people voted for Joe Kennedy, vs. 1.2 million for Scott Brown.

I was thinking about the tea

I was thinking about the tea party folks. It's no surprise to see the likes of Beck and Palin trying to influence that group. During and in the aftermath of a hyperinflatinary event there will probably be an opportunity to sieze momentum, one way or the other. I agree it would be nice if C4L could develop into something that lots of people would rally around. It's going to be a battle.

They're starting a PAC in FL

so they can start endorsing Liberty candidates, so that would be a good place to test/start a new party.

RP R3VOLution

this is my concern, because . . .

the media are doing such a good job of controlling a majority of Americans--

an easy majority.

What will it take to awaken people?

I don't know; many good-hearted people I know continue to follow the left/right, Republican/Democrat paradigm and can't see the shadowy figures surrounding.

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

how to wake from a deep sleep

Unfortunately I believe that the only way to wake many people out of their deep slumber is the shocking pain of reality hitting home.

is probably true for the majority of Americans at this point.

for the timely info'

Similar to Dr Pauls

State of the Republic Address except more detail. Certainly his timelline ought to kick everyone in the ass. 1-3 years for the disorderly retreat from the dollar.

The scary part of this scenario is how little impact the freedom movement has had in real numbers and I say that without any derogatory intent so please don't take offense. For instance the US Senate election in MA., Kennedy got 1-2%? This is evidence (once again) that the overwhelming majority of voters are ignorant. Let me quote Dr. Paul from the State of the Republic Address:

"With no ability of the federal government to fund its commitments, international or domestic, major changes will occur in our system. The social unrest will elicit cries for government to exert unusual force to head off a complete breakdown of law and order. The ultimate trap will be set for a system of government claiming to protect a free society."

"This impending crisis comes as a consequence of our flawed foreign and domestic economic policies, a silly notion about money, ignorance about Central Banking, ignoring the onerous power and mischief of our out-of-control intelligence agencies, our unsustainable welfare state, and a willingness to sacrifice privacy and civil liberties in an attempt to achieve safety and security from an inept government. Dangerous times indeed!"

Within two maybe three election cycles is it possible to educate enough voters, according to John's timeline, to turn this around?

It may be too late...

I think RP is telling us that there will be no change of course by the government. They will allow conditions to degrade to a point where marshal law, international government, and a new currency will be our salvation.

Go along to get along.

Wow, thats depressing, is that even possible? Bottles of scotch and soy beans as a barter currency. I hope it does not come to that.
