WOW! Everyone go outside and look up at the moon!

There's a huge ring around it? Maybe ice crystals? I've never seen anything like that before.

They are called Moon-dogs. The Sun gets them too but they appear as a circular rainbow around the Sun - Sun-dogs.

i hate to interpt everyones bird watching but did every troll in existence come to the dp tonite to post a worthless topic in order to keep some of us from calling senators. If you look carefully when this happens, you can make out a faint rainbow of colors in the ring around the moon.

I think some people call them moon dogs, because it's so similiar to a sun dog.

It's a "lunar halo" and is caused by high altitude ice crystals. Seeing one means there is a very high chance it's gonna rain in the next 12 hours or so.

looks normal tonight. I DO know what you are talking about though! I saw the most fantastic ring in November when I was visiting in GA! It was fantastic and beautiful! I wish I would have taken pics..but I downloaded it to my hard drive ( brain, that is! )

The ring is there you just have to wait for some low level clouds to pass in front of it, it is a glowing orange redish colour.

very nice! boone is beautiful. i think bele chere is jan. 23rd. laaff is another really good asheville festival. i think that one is in september though. i'm looking forward to that season again. the winter has kept everyone inside.
