Open letter to Trevor & Blimp Company

0 votes

I’ve never been a fan of the blimp but realize many of my fellow supports are and respect their opinion / choice to donate. However I am quite upset you have decided to “Pimp the Blimp” on Tea Party communications. Fundamentally they are two totally different operations and I would appreciate you separating each. I provided you my e-mail address solely for the Tea Party. When you opted to form a For-Profit company you NO LONGER LEGALLY have to right to use my e-mail address for your business maters. Please do not pimp the blimp on tea party e-mails.

Again, I respect those who have opted to get behind this campaign – I am just not one of them. Please keep the lists separate and do not attempt to leverage the tea party e-mail list for your personal gain.

Thanks!

My Thanks

There are many ways to accomplish a job. Our job as citizens who believe in Dr. Paul is to get him elected in 2008. I maxed out my donation before the first Tea Party so could not participate but continue to promote encourage others to donate during the Dec. 16th drive. I gave money towards the blimp project, it’s a brilliant advertising campaign and is and inexpensive relative to other media. The best part is I can spend as much as I am able to afford, that is true freedom. Can we please rise above this debate over how to get the job done each of us commit to doing our best. We must be positive and driven in order to motivate others and get Dr Paul elected.

Good Grief

The attacks on Trevor are ridiculous. The guy has accomplished some pretty amazing things for the cause. Lining his pockets??? Go check out Free Market News. Doesn't sound like that to me.

get your shoes on

get some slim jims, and go raise some supporters.

24/7 Ron Paul Coverage and Discussion

It was just a few llines in a big email full of lots of stuff.

Please lighten up on Trevor. He did help raise $4.2M.

And he believes the blimp will help Dr Paul as well.

It doesn't hurt to stick in an ad for something that may do some good - no one knows how that thing will go.

Give it a break

I have seen no indication that Trevor is making a bunch of money on this or any other project. In fact, I read one article which said he had sunk his life savings into the project and was almost broke.

There are very few people who can give up their jobs and devote 100% of their time to a project for any length of time.

I would bet that Romney, Giuliani, Thompson, Hillary, Obama and probably a few others are paying campaign consultants $30-40,000 a month and they have not achieved the results Trevor has.

I would bet Ron Paul is paying his chief fund raising person more than what Trevor was going to take as a salary from the blimp project.

Trevor is worth more than Ron Paul's chief fund raiser, so don't get down on him.

We are all big boys and girls and we will make our own decisions on what projects we will fund. If you don't like it, don't fund it. But quit the negative comments.

Trying to protect Trevor and blimp.

He's breaking new legal ground. In a situation like this, you want to keep things as simple and clean as possible.

Right now, as long as he continues to be involved with TeaParty07, Trevor is in a complicated situation. Basically, he is wearing two hats, and there may be an inherent conflict of interest.

There is no longer any need for Trevor to continue to be associated with teaparty07.com directly. He can easily give this over to someone else.
In the event that a legal challenge to his company is mounted, I think that this will make it a lot easier for him.

In a sense, once Trevor established his for-profit company, legally, he is no longer what he was. His whole relationship to the campaign has changed. Keeping up previous relationships, even if they were officially "non-relationships", makes everything very murky.

I know he's very busy right now in trying to get the blimp off the ground, but I think his high-powered lawyers should be out there giving him better advice.

Being critical about petty things

If a mention of the blimp on a tea party update bugs you I feel sorry for you.

Please keep your eye on the

Please keep your eye on the prize. We want to get Paul elected; a blimp will help us reach that goal. Please stop threatening people with election law or you yourself will be responsible for damaging the tea party.

Jeez what's the matter, your index finger tired? Just delete it rather than cry about it...especially here. Seems you put 100 times the effort into your post than it would take to delete anything and everything that promotional emails to obvious Ron Paul supporters have delivered to you.

You don't want to contribute...don't. Just quit whining over an extra email or two.

The way things work

I spent quite a few years in politics and know the value of donor lists when it comes to raising campaign funds. I've bought one-time use of lists from those who had built them up. If I had contacted the same list twice, it would have been a violation of contract. However, anyone who donated to my cause resulting from my use of those lists automatically became *my* contact and I could then contact them as many times as I wanted.

Trevor is in the excellent position of owning a large list of donor respondents that he is legally entitled to bother with funding requests till every single person gets sick of hearing from him. He seems smarter than that though and will no doubt use his Nov. 5 and Dec. 16 contacts sparingly but effectively to promote Dr. Paul's and like-minded candidates' elections. He is bound to lose some donors along the way but balanced against the help he can lend to liberty-minded candidates he will probably keep at it as well as constantly attempting to grow the list.

Dr. Paul is receiving even more donor names than Trevor and will add them to his own substantial list that he's developed over the past 30 years. He is legally entitled to use those names to sell widgets to if he wishes. Chances are he will use his donor list to promote liberty and that is what Trevor is doing as well. As I see it Trevor has brilliantly gone for-profit to sidestep FEC limitations and simultaneously add sustainability to his effort. He obviously wants to work at this full time and if the blimp project continues, he will be able to.

For any who are ardently opposed to Trevor's mixing of promotions, consider asking him to remove your name after the tea party passes. I don't think he would be under any obligation to do so however. Another solution is to filter him out of your inbox after the tea party. You could also change your email address. My reccommendation though is to just put up with the blimp notices so that you can be contacted by Trevor for other grand-scale projects to support Dr. Paul.

And who knows, the blimp may win you over when you see the tons of media attention it gets for our campaign effort. I suspect there are many not normally aroused by politics who will see the blimp as something wonderous. Parents will rush their kids outside to see the blimp. Or the kids will rush in from outside to drag their parents out for a look-see. Everyone will know Ron Paul's name and maybe be willing to do what it suggests: google Ron Paul!

New Hampshire and Ecuador

Sorry, I don't agree

And I think that this will inhibit people from pledging on subsequent money drives. You can't change the rules in the middle of the game, and rules are rules. I pledged to both tea party and gave to the blimp, so it's not an issue for me personally.

In fact, I think that Trevor should separate himself off from the TeaParty07.com site as soon as possible and give it over to someone else that is not affiliated with his company. These two hats that he is wearing might well get him into hot water and jeopardize the blimp.

Keep things in Perspective Please!!!

I could understand if this ingenious young man were doing this for his own personal gain, but please realize, we are all trying in our own various ways to GET THE MESSAGE OF DR. PAUL TO THE MASSES!!! As others have said, you don't like it, DON'T SUPPORT IT!! Back to the grind...............

about "lining their pockets"

There was a very good article yesterday on the blimp. See it here: http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2007/12/ron-paul-blimp....

They aren't getting rich on this. They just found an extremely creative way to get around the rules on donations. If you don't like it, don't support it. But stop crying about it. We can all do what we want. There are lots of people (me included) who wouldn't have even noticed that Ron Paul was running for president without the Nov. event. The blimp and the Dec event are sure to pop up more news articles and raise awareness. As I see it, the success of this campaign so far is the creativity of its supporters, not the people sitting around complaining about what these supporters are doing. Everyone on this site should be applauding the fact that the company is for profit!

Politico explains that the organizers behind the blimp, who are not associated with the Paul campaign:

Have developed a detailed business plan carefully structured to avoid Byzantine campaign finance laws.

They shunned traditional mechanisms such as creating an independent non-profit group under section 527 of the IRS code -- like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and the other groups that spent millions on ads in 2004 -- or a political action committee -- like EMILY's List. Instead, they went an almost unheard of route, establishing a for-profit company: Liberty Political Advertising.

The name is a nod to Paul's ideology and the website boasts the "legal arrangement offers the best of both worlds: no limits and virtually no regulations." In other words, very libertarian.

Instead of soliciting donations like a PAC or a campaign or a non-profit political group, Liberty says it's "selling political advertisements that you can sponsor."

Look we all don't support

Look we all don't support the way the blimp scenario went down and I respect both sides of this. I for one did not support it, but made sure every available dollar I have goes towards our main goal. I think Trevor does all his projects in one on emails to save time and server efficiency. I would ask the poster to just ignore that part of the email. I don't think Trevor went the way he did on the blimp on purpose. I think he took what was deemed to be efficient/workable and went with it. I just ask for leanance and understanding of others view points.

There is alot more to the Blimp process than many know. I beleive I understand why they went the way they did and for good reason.

Please lets all stay focused on the goal for we are making huge process.
We all have different view points, but are looking to reach the same destination. Lets focus on that and try to be tolerant of others for that is the american way!

Cool! $25,000 in wire

Cool! $25,000 in wire transfers for the Blimp today!
Those of you that don't like the Blimp, Freedom 1, there might be a second Blimp, Freedom 2! Can't wait to hear the rants on that.
It's all good folks. Tea Party will probably get over $5 million. I'll be donating double what I did on Nov 5th.
Heck their will be other ideas that may outdo these.

It irks me that people have

It irks me that people have time to complain about receiving an email when there are a MILLION OTHER MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT!

I'm tired of hearing the complaints.

Both the tea party and the blimp are ideas that support Ron Paul, thus i support them both.

I receive over 400 Spam emails per day.

I WOULD INVITE THEM ALL IF THEY WERE ALL SUPPORTING RON PAUL.

A few emails are a small price to pay, regardless of whether you agree with how Trevor setup the Blimp project or not.

A wasted 5 minutes responding to this dam post, I could have made a phone call to Iowa instead. UGGGGGGG!!!!!!!

Hey Jarrod...You can get rid of spam emails..

if you really dont want spam emails.. just whenever you get offline or stop using your computer.. Go to your internet browser and click on tools and then click on internet options, from there go to delete cookie, temp files , etc , then delete all... This gets rid of all of them for me and when I use spybot or adaware it ususally says no threat can be found. So I think what happens is all the sites you go on somehow gets your email and spams you.. but if you delete all the cookies and junk then whaaa laa. well it works for me anywaz.. I used to do it everyday but I dont get on myspace as much and they spam you alot.. so If I get a funky email I know its time to go to internet options.. hope that makes since ..lol

Actually, HTML (web

Actually, HTML (web browsing) and POP (e-mail) protocols are completely unrelated.

What you described is a good thing to do and can reduce pop-ups, spyware, etc.

But if your e-mail address ends up on the spammers' lists (which get resold again and again) adjusting your web browser settings will not do anything to stop it.

free market

let the dude pimp his own success. the blimp is huge. the tea party is huge. there's nothing wrong with the same peole supporting both!

I hate to kick the hornets nest, but...................

(and before you jump on me, I do get the point of the post, Agreed. I'm just commenting on some of the comments on the post) when you're done reading this post take a look around the screen and tell me that you think this forum for us to exchange ideas is possible just by willing it so. The ads by google on this page sometimes pimp other candidates if you have not noticed, I prefer IE and this site advertises firefox, king of the online capitalist jungle "Amazon" is right here.

You feel how you feel, I just think that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I just try to stay focused on the idea "spread the word of the Good Doctor" people are going to do it in different ways and that's how I see it. People are going to do what they're going to do, for the reasons they do it, no matter what others say. My 2 cents.

You miss the posters POINT!

When ANYONE signs up for teaparty07.com they do so ONLY to engage in the tea party...

NOT TO HAVE THEIR ADDY USED FOR ANY OTHER REASON...

Blimp Pimping has HURT the official campaign... wether or not it ends up ADDING to it... is yet to be seen.... Now we have storys of cold wether perhaps stopping the Blimp.. or Cloudy sky's or snow...

And its been changed from Monday launch to when??? FOR SURE??

So all that is being asked is... "Hey if I sign up for the teaparty please don't solicit money for NON-OFFICIAL campaign reasons.... I only signed up for the teaparty"

The possibility of spam has kept many from signing up I HOPE... some of us were more trusting and signed..

Why they still Pimp this is a question for me... THEY HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN IN THE AIR... SO THEY SHOULD NOT SOLICIT FOR ANY MORE MONEY UNTIL THEY DO!!!... Promises promises promises... now lets see ACTIION!!!

I for one will be happy when she flys!! and will be GLAD to say I was wrong about the Blimp idea...... BUT SHE NEEDS TO FLY BEFORE THAT HAPPENS!!! at the least

Blimp Hating

The blimp is a great idea! Stop hating! If you don't like it, don't support it.

I didn't support it - that's

I didn't support it - that's my issue. I supported the Tea Party and now the blimp pimps are trying to hijack the tea party supporters to line their own pockets. It's disgusting.

With that said - I'll be happy to see the blimp fly. Just STOP e-mailing me about it Trevor.

Can't you unsubscribe from

Can't you unsubscribe from the list?

"Line their own pockets"

Have you read the details of the blimp from the site? I hardly think they are trying to make a killing on this. Trevor is getting great resume points and some money for his trouble.

They have a fixed weekly salary of 500 bones. I can make more than that managing a 7-11.

Your point was that they are approaching you through Tea Party affiliation. Frustrating sure, but have some faith. Delete the "spam" and move on. We are all doing everything we can to help move this movement along. not everything will be seamless

"Make fun buddy..." - Ron Paul

Yes,I agree,....

Yes,it's a great idea, but that's not the point. The point is what it has 'become'. I'm sure alot of others, besides myself, had no idea that it is now a company to offer these services to others. Whether or not we agree with their mission is irrelevant-I just want clarification so I can understand how they used a grassroots idea for getting RP elected,to create a profit making endeavor to support all candidates who want to pay for it.
Now that I am clear on this, you are right,I will not donate.
This thread is USEFUL for clarifying info to people.
There is alot of info out there-and we don't all pick up every detail about every aspect of this campaign. A thread can break it down.
