Palin backs Ron Paul's son in Kentucky GOP Senate race

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul said Monday that he's picked up the support of national conservative leader Sarah Palin.

That puts Palin, the former governor of Alaska, at odds with national Republican leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a longtime kingmaker in Kentucky politics. McConnell is backing Secretary of State Trey Grayson's bid to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Jim Bunning.

Paul, the son of Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul, said his campaign has received "a generous donation" from Palin's political action committee. He did not say how much.

If nothing else, this at least puts Palin at odds with the GOP regulars.
