ACTION ITEM: Teach the TEA Party what liberty is about! (Platform submissions)
There is another thread on here linked to a news article about the group "Tea Party Patriots" who is taking internet user submissions on potential platform planks, and is then going through an online vetting and voting process.
This is our opportunity here at DP to prevent the TEA Party movement from becoming "Neo-Con lite."
YOu can go here: http://www.contractfromamerica.com/Idea.aspx
and submit your ideas for platform planks and engage in discussions.
Noticeably absent are issues with foreign policy, personal liberty, monetary stability, END the FED, eliminating income taxes, changing to apportioned taxation, reducing the size of congressional districts, ending direct election of senators, etc.
Submit your favorite issue you find missing, then report back here with a comment in this thread to alert others to sign in and vote up that plank. (and others we find that we agree with) I will then add your plank at the bottom of this original post.
They want this to come from the grassroots, and that is us. We started this, lets keep it on track.
Time is short, they are about to close the window for new submissions and the first round of voting. Our issues need to be in and voted high up on the list very SOON.
I will submit the plank on reducing congressional district sizes. If I can submit two I will also submit the monetary stability plank under a label indicating sound money. When they are up, I will post back here for DPers to vote them up.
Let's get to it!
**Caveat - they want ONLY economic submissions. Also, while I still say lets go for it, this may be fruitless. Read this from their FAQ on the platform page:
Will the ideas with the most positive response in each category end up in the final version of the Tea Party Contract?
Not necessarily. While we believe strongly in democratic values, we recognize that sometimes the most popular idea is not always the best, most viable idea. As such, after a 3-month submission period, the Contract From America Leadership Committee will review the most popular ideas in each category, and will hold an open, transparent meeting, where the best ideas will be debated. The Committee will narrow these ideas down to two or three of the best ideas per category. The grassroots movement will then be able to vote both online and potentially at grassroots events for the ideas they want to see in the Contract From America. At this stage, a majority vote will determine the winning ideas.

That crud looks like watered down nonsense to me. No real reform at all.

Individual Planks have been added
Please review, vote for the ones you like, and keep this thread on the top page for others.
If a plank is poorly worded, try commenting to the author to suggest changes. If it is high up on the list, starting a new one will split votes. Also, if it is worded better, It might make it through that "closed transparent meeting."
hmmmm....
where have I heard that "open, transparent meeting" bit before? It sounds vaguely familiar but... dang!
Obama/Biden no?
I can't fathom how he was so clueless that having a closed door meeting on "transparency in government" is not the way to go.
