Why We Seek War: Why is America in so Many Wars?

America is “a nation that seeks war” and if it doesn’t change it could end up destroying itself, a law school dean warns.

Given all the wars the United States has waged, “It is preposterous but true that we do not see ourselves as a nation that seeks war,” writes Lawrence Velvel, dean of the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover. “We see ourselves as a peace loving nation” and that message is constantly drummed into the public by government and media.

Since World War Two, an indisputably necessary conflict, Velvel points out the U.S. has fought the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, secret wars in Laos and Cambodia, the First Gulf War, Afghanistan, and the Second Gulf War in Iraq. It has also invaded, bombed or “quarantined” Panama, Grenada, Cuba, Haiti, Somalia, the Sudan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Serbia and Libya, and has “declared” a global war on terrorists.

“If the United States were a man instead of a country, we would say he must be schizophrenic, or at minimum deeply mentally disturbed, to believe he is peace loving in the face of a record like this,” Velvel writes in “The Long Term View,” a journal of informed opinion published by his law school.

Velvel further notes the U.S. today spends more on military than perhaps all the rest of the world put together and definitely more than the next 21 highest-spending nations combined, including China, Russia, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Israel.

Not only do Americans always appear to be at war but they believe they fight only in good causes, he writes. “We believe we at all times fight only to do God’s work, and that we therefore have to fight or democracy, freedom, and economic affluence will be lost,” Velvel writes. He says truth cannot be permitted to intrude “because it would destroy our self image.”

“Certainly much of the rest of the world---probably most of the rest of the world---does not see us as peaceloving.” Gulf War II, Velvel notes, is having the opposite impact on public opinion the U.S. intended. “It has caused Muslims---the Arab ‘street,’ in particular---to hate our guts even more than they already did.”

Among the reasons USA fights so often, Velvel writes, are economic imperialism, a desire to remain preeminent, the glorification of war by the media, hubris, the stupidity of the nation’s leaders and the failure to prosecute them for their war crimes, and the inability to learn from past errors.

War

War is the means through which bankers and industrialists are enriched, the state is empowered even while being impoverished, and the rest of us made to feel proud while having our pockets picked.

It has been so for hundreds of years, if not longer.

Good article. And if you haven't read it,

"We Who Dared Say No To War", co-authored by Tom Woods and Murray Polner, is chock full of amazing information and inspiring words by the truly great heroes of our country, who stood up against every war this country ever fought.

Thanks reed~I'll put it on my list!

I could use some inspiring words! I read A Foreign Policy of Freedom by Ron Paul...when I get depressed about the Wars. His example of standing by his principles gives me strength and inspiration!

"I think we are living in a world of lies: lies that don't even know they are lies, because they are the children and grandchildren of lies." ~ Chris Floyd

We? Why me?

I've never been at war with anyone.

good analogy!! I like you.

"I think we are living in a world of lies: lies that don't even know they are lies, because they are the children and grandchildren of lies." ~ Chris Floyd

Most wars are started for for 3 reasons

One is so certain people can make a lot of money. Second is to advance the
implementation of One World Order
through disease,hunger,displacement,
disillusionment and frustration,etc.
Third is to reduce the global
population. Those,from what I see,
are the fundamentals. Most of the
events leading to war are fabricated
,embellished, hyped,lied about,caused
and planned far in advance. This has
been going on for a couple hundred
years. The solution is a world revolution as in get rid of all the
top players in all countries. Unless
you can think of a leadership that
isn't corrupt in some way, then ALL
must go.

Thee answer is in the book "THE CREATURE FROM JEKYL ISLAND."

G. Edward Griffin explains that most wars occur for the benefit of world bankers.

Nations are manipulated by central banks (Federel Reserve, Banks of England, France, Italy, Germany etc).

Like a giant chess game where the militaries of the world are moved around the world chess board.

This is done for the ultimate benefit of the BANKERS--WHO MAKE MONEY FUNDING BOTH SIDES OF THE VERY CONFLICTS THEY ORGANIZE.

Every American should read this book (At the high school level) so that they quit coming out of government-run public schools as the American Sheeples they have become.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

You can’t change the collective conscious, you can only change

your own

Afghanistan has been the home of the CIA for 50 years now. CIA = Federal Reserve Private Security. The soviets felt the blowback from their invasion of Afghanistan with the CIA channeling the finances and providing the intel. The same thing is happening right now except this time the CIA is doing it against the United States. If our delegates oppose the war and eventually troops are removed the CIA will contract another 9/11. If not, the CIA will continue to support factions to keep America from recognizing its deficits.

The opportunity cost of pulling the troops would be worth it because many more young people are dying through war and the derivatives of war than those that will die from the financiers own actions.

Nobody is ever going to realize this… shit I have a hard time believing it myself. Studying the CIA is like studying dark matter, the only way to define it is by studying patterns through history to measure the impact it has on visible space.

Grrrrrrrrrrrreat article!!!

Thanks for posting. This is one of those article that I wish I had written. Well done.

This is one of those articles

This is one of those articles where I wonder what to think of words like "nation." When people say things like "America is a nation that seeks war," my first impulse is to respond, "No, America is a country squatted on by a criminal syndicate, called the U.S. government, that seeks war."

But then I also remember there really, truly are many Americans with an underdeveloped moral sense who have no problem with mass murder AKA war, who even glorify it and its instrument, the military. Then, in the words of Jefferson, I tremble for my country when I remember that God is just.

Perhaps it is the "out of sight, out of mind" effect. If more people only saw what the criminal syndicate actually DOES in their name, perhaps they would object. I would hope.

Dead Bodies

is what citizens of the US need to see on tv again -
the dead soldiers getting dropped off back in the US.
Maybe get the draft going again - whats it going to take
to rattle the numb - with blinders on ....
war is a racket

Because

without war we would not be able to bail out the endless debts we get into from fractional reserve banking

"Let me issue and control a nation's money and I care not who writes the laws."
- Mayer Amschel Rothschild

"give me control of my own permaculture and I care a lot about what makes law"

-Permaculture Republican

Debt and the fractional reserve banking are a fraud, and used

to manipulate and decieve by the bankster's.
The manipulation and murder are for one reason:
Control of the land and resources . . . as in . .
I own the world, you must leave.
Criminal organizations, treasonous, scientifically defunct and discredited. Extinctors. Sociopaths.
Big Medica
Big AgriBiz
Big Biotechna
Big Chema

Your message on using agriculture to expose the lies and deciet is right on target, PermacultureRepublic.
Small family farmers and permaculture are sustainable and have been attacked, however, by those that want "you" off the land. (only to be carried in by slave train from the cities)
So, if "enablers" "own" the land, by nature of 46 FEMA camps with guns and sychophantic employees "commanded" to protect . . . "oligarchy" and plantation racism . . . and the continued desecration of our resources, cultures and living things and creatures resulting from intensive mono crop industry and economic deception . . . . we must, as you suggest;
with any question on where we are going with this revolution,
WE MUST ALWAYS ASK ONE QUESTION FIRST:
"How does this affect the access to locally grown, wholesome foods?"

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

You are 100% right RawFoodLiberty!

Yes! How does this affect locally grown foods? But not just foods, the enculturation into socialism stems from all the internal necessities for life to flourish, including local water, energy, shelter, and materials. These resources generate the welfare needed for local families to sustain themselves without the need for government dependency. This is a war over resources, but we have the leverage. It takes the collective conscious of the entire society to produce a fully functioning socialist system. It only takes one individual to sustain an individualists system. You can free yourself on your own, others will follow when they wake up… taking the action to do so will set you on the path to enlightenment, freedom, and the republic I believe will follow naturally.

I suggest you start an apprenticeship on a polyculture farm as soon as you can.

Thank you for your Ideas and your Support

WELL....

You guys have got it all wrong... It is our responsibility to take action on those that don't follow the Constitution but it isn't necessarily our fault. We haven't had a "real" president since JFK. He was going to start down grading the Federal Reserve and they sent a message out to all world leaders, that if they didn't go with their agenda, they'd be dealt with. This BS all started with the Federal Reserve Act in 1913. This enabled the private bankers and the Federal Reserve to control the rate at which our currency is printed and so on. The banks and wealthy corporations call the shots and since America is so big and powerful, we are used as the enforcers. It's not necessarily even about "War", it's all about MONEY. One key element to today's politics, FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL!!! Bush should have been punished for Treason, didn't happen. Now, we use a "not so natural" disaster as propoganda to go into Haiti and take over. It's no different than anywhere else. Take a look at where our military troops are based around the world. Well, that's not saying much because they are in over 150 countries. I'm pretty sure there are only 170 something anyway. People, this isn't War, it's a total global takeover. The banks want to own every aspect of our life so they can tax us to DEATH and leave us and our children on the streets to suffer. Hope you can see it this way, otherwise I fear that you have been brainwashed by the media and the "boob" tube.... Remember, it isn't your government, they are merely the puppets that take the heat for the banks and their world agenda. Not your local banks but the private sectors, such as the Central Bank and any others that we can not find out because the Federal Reserve operates under no supervision and does as it wishes. Some country. Our own government sold their souls to the banks to inherit wealth. Bottomline!!!

Ron Paul 2012

Parkerctc84, very good observation! It's time to draw the line.

"Our own government sold their souls to the banks to inherit wealth. Bottomline!!!" - Parkerctc84

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

Not all have sold their soul

Not all have sold their soul over but most... Regardless, as long as we allow all the same houligans to remain in office, in one way or another, we will be fucked forever...

Ron Paul 2012

Because we've allowed it

It all goes back to the fact that as voters, we've been horribly irresponsible. We elect people and then don't hold them accountable. In our defense, these elected officials have many means with which to distort their actions, and being basically trusting people, we allow it to go on, and on, unchecked. NOW, we're waking up, thanks to the likes of Ron Paul, and free reporting on the internet. So, now the question is, what are we going to do about it. Take action and vote the bums out. Did your congressmen vote for bank bailouts? If so, vote the bums out! Did you congressmen vote for national health care? Vote the bums out, and let them know you intend to. This neocon warfare mentality can also be put in check. They've got us convinced that their is a boogey man behind every tree. A terrorist on every corner. If that were the case, their would be chaos everywhere. You can't stop a crazy guy with a bottle of gasoline and a bic lighter. But, that's just not the case. We create the boogey man so we can march all over the world spending tons of fictitous money, and who knows where all the spoils go. Just watch Haiti..there's a real plan playing out down there. Googel up "Oil discoveries in Cuba". You'll see why we're "occupying" Haiti.

Good article.

The comments on reasons for war are logical and many perhaps correct, though he doesn't address (nor would I expect him to) the "real" all inclusive reason The U.S. does what it does; our nation's "leaders" have been directed to for well over one hundred years. You can start with the head of the NWO, Illuminati, etc., The Rothschild Dynasty and pretty much work your way down (i.e. Rockefellers and so on) to discover the reasons for "our" nation's behavior, especially, over the last forty years or so. I will not get into the history of the Illuminati and how their global influence has led to our nation's gradual yet perhaps eventual demise. One can research this for his or herself if interested, for there are tons of information readily available on this very subject online.

Why We Fight

Last night I watched an older documentary "Why We Fight" made in 2005, BBC production. From the warning from Eisenhower back in the 50s, right up to the lies of Bush, it's included. Nice transitions throughout the documentary, but with my "trust the government" upbringing, it was difficult to watch at times. The whole truth and nothing but the truth? I doubt it, as there are always underlying agendas and motivations, but still the outcome in most people's minds who watch this would have to be "no wonder they hate us."
Sad...aren't we the guys in the white hats?

Great documentary...

I pass this one foward as much as I can.

Why We Fight describes the rise and maintenance of the United States military-industrial complex and its fifty-year involvement with the wars led by the United States to date, especially its 2003 Invasion of Iraq. The history, why, and what Dr. Ron Paul preaches about foreign interventionism is all covered in this documentary.

~Live life to its fullest, with an open heart, open arms and most important... an open mind~

When fear is distributed and truth is the enemy

it purposely compounds the inability to face our 'American exceptionalist' attitudes...this is where we are as a society.. in deep psychological denial.

The ECONOMY of promoting fear, war and lies is very profitable for the ruling elites. The truth would destroy this economy so anyone speaking the truth must be marginalized or destroyed.

A few of my favorite quotes on this:

* For how could the fear, the hatred, and the lunatic credulity which the Party needed in its members be kept at the right pitch, except by bottling down some powerful instinct and using it as a driving force? ~Orwell 1984

*The Calculus of Fear
When fear is distributed by the mass media, managed and promoted by the state, even with calibrations of fear that assign specific values to different threats (the colour coding of threat levels in the U.S.), with armies of taxpayers called upon to pay ever more for more “security”, when they have less real income than before, supposedly with the aim of prolonging their lives against “the terrorist threat”, then one has to talk about fear as something that is calculated, controlled, and controlling. It has an economy, a symbolic system, assigned messengers, an armed apparatus, and a routinized discourse. It is not genuine fear–genuine fear is spontaneous, emotional, it goes as quickly as it comes, it cannot be articulated. The fear of terrorism is instead a managed fear, orchestrated by authority, invested with power in the defense of power.~ by Maximilian Forte

*Truth is the Enemy
To attempt to speak the truth on any subject of importance requires a deep reserve of determination, for to speak the truth requires that one first sweep away an infinite number of rationalizations, false alternatives, and numerous other failures of logic and the most rudimentary forms of thought -- as well as the endless lies.

On that single occasion in a thousand or a million when a person overcomes these barriers and speaks the truth, he or she discovers an additional, terrible truth: almost no one wants to hear it. This is how we live today: lies are the staple of our diet. Without them, we would die, certainly in psychological terms." ~Arthur Silber

"I think we are living in a world of lies: lies that don't even know they are lies, because they are the children and grandchildren of lies." ~ Chris Floyd

Thankyou Libery_Belle, for all you do for the world.

Liberty_Belle, very nice commentary.

Example, your following statement says so much,
"The ECONOMY of promoting fear, war and lies is very profitable for the ruling elites. The truth would destroy this economy so anyone speaking the truth must be marginalized or destroyed."

The ECONOMY of promoting fear . . . MUST END!

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”
