Sarah Palin and Rand Paul are having a Tea Party

Long before the Tea Party movement sprang up in the early days of President Obama, the liberty movement was catching fire. Dedicated to a pro-constitution, fiscally conservative, and anti-war GOP presidential candidate, the liberty movement barnstormed the nation with an explosion of grassroots enthusiasm. When Texas Congressman, Dr. Ron Paul, challenged the GOP establishment in 2007-2008, tens of thousands of supporters organized record breaking, one-day "money bombs", catchy YouTube videos, massive sign waving events, and even a blimp, without any assistance from special interests, party elites, or network celebrities.
Then, in early 2009, a few weeks after Obama's inauguration, the Tea Party movement began to show its head, enflamed by the bailouts and record government spending. Little did many people realize, however, that the "Tea Party" concept originated in December 2007, when over 58,000 grassroots supporters donated a one-day record of $6 million to Dr. Paul's presidential campaign on the anniversary of the original 1773 Boston Tea Party.
As the Tea Party began to slowly emerge, the "Liberty movement" was already in full swing. Dr. Paul had inspired a whole slate of grassroots candidates to launch campaigns for the 2010 elections. Candidates such Dr. Rand Paul (his son), Peter Schiff, Adam Kokesh, RJ Harris, Jake Towne, and Debra Medina began gearing up to run for various offices. And as the Tea Party rallies began to spread throughout the nation in 2009, many of these candidates were invited to give speeches and make appearances at Tea Party events.
But, as the Tea Party movement began to unfold, a troubling phenomenon started to emerge. Fox News, GOP elites, network personalities, and powerful special interests began to slowly, but insidiously take the reins. Seeing their opportunity, GOP strategists began to exploit the budding grassroots movement for their own political gain. Suddenly, the movement became obsessed with excorciating the Democrats and President Obama, when, in fact, the "shredding of the Consitution" by President Bush and a largely Republican Congress is what inspired the earliest tea party supporters in 2007 & 2008. As a result, disaffected Democrats and open-minded Independents strongly rejected the Tea Party's partisan invective.
Now, the Tea Party movement is battling for its soul. With $100,000 payments to Sarah Palin, $500 tickets to attend a "grassroots" convention, and Republican strategists such as Sal Russo pulling the strings behind the scenes, the Tea Party movement is fighting the onslaught of a full-fledged, GOP establishment hijacking.

These two
are all over the news now
Bump
Seems like Sarah, not Rand, is leading the way now :(
Rand will be a Senator....
Rand will be a Senator while Palin will be flapping her jaws on Fox and Oprah, "blah blah blah blah..."

Title is misleading -
Hate writers who resort to prose "bait & switch" tactics. Makes folks think that they are actually planning a real party like Glenn Beck's w/ Ted Nugent.
Obama = O.ne B.ig A.ss M.istake A.merica
MAYBE RAND CAN TEACH HER A FEW THINGS...
ESPECIALLY ABOUT FOREIGN POLICY.
She's particularily confused about that.
"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul
FreedomWorks and Glenn Beck...
FreedomWorks and Glenn Beck began hijacking the "tea party" banner before Obama was even elected. I received an e-mail back then from Dick Armey regarding the formation of FreedomWorks and I don't remember signing up for any GOP mailing list.
All in all I don't see the influx of ex-GOP'ers into the tea party movement as completely bad. It is an opportunity. Many of them are jeffersonian republicans and share our core beliefs but are still confused. They are refugees looking for a new home.
We have an opportunity to engage them in an environment of common cause. Some of them will end up being herded back into the GOP/neocon fold but many will not.
Let's set aside the shrillness, instant attacks and name-calling and labeling and approach them with calm polite reasoning and approachableness and not run them off with our well-intentioned but sometimes externally overzealous fervor that can be a bit socially shocking to an outsider struggling to reformulate their belief system and find new leaders.
Let's make the most of the opportunity and bring over as many as we can to our side with a patient and calm friendly approach...

some really good points patriot
just one mistake -

“The most important element of a free society, where individual rights are held in the highest esteem, is the rejection of the initiation of violence.” Dr. Ron Paul
Actually...
Actually, Dick Armey's group, the one doing a great deal of the current Tea Party organizing is FreedomWorks...
http://www.freedomworks.org/
I *was* wrong about the founding date of the group which is 1984. But as soon as the Ron Paul movement began to gain momemntum they jumped from obscurity to hyper-active.
Freedom Watch is a Judge Napolitano's show on Fox and also Larry Klayman's sister organization to Judicial Watch...

very good approach
but in my case it is hard to do it - too much stuff and stress - I tried for example to go to bed early and calm down - does not work -
when I sleep I have dreams that make me wake up and do what I did all day -
I will sleep well only when America is free!

Try this...
Through the years I have had trouble getting my mind to shut down and fall asleep. Then I started doing breathing exercises:
Works like a charm for me. Usually only takes a few minutes and im snoozing. Makes you very relaxed and focusing your mind on breathing takes your mind off your days activities and worries.
Another benefit of this exercise is that it raises your metabolism for several hours and helps you burn fat.

Why Sarah Palin in Tea Party?
May someone please explain why Tea Party movement needs SP in there to speak before them? Dr. Rand Paul and his campaign is doing good even without SP's endorsement. Is the movement being used by neocon for their Nov votes? Thank you in advance.
RPmypresident
They want
They being the powers to be want SP in the tea party movement in hopes of getting her in a position to knock RP out of the box in 2012. That is if we still have a country. In many ways I wonder that. I don't know how everyone feels about SP but to me she is just a King George Bush in a skirt
Thank you!! My thoughts exactly!
Everyone SEEMS to be thrilled that Mrs. Palin's endorsement and participation is all-that-and-a-bag-of-chips! My memory serves me to remind me who this woman IS! I seem to recall her being John McCain's presidential running-mate! Fox News is another impediment for this Liberty Movement, they've marginalized Dr. Paul and many other efforts to expose government frauds and lies. Last i heard Mrs. Palin was going to have her own show on Fox! I am having an impossible time trying to understand just HOW Sarah Palin's endorsement is a good thing! The last thing I think we need right now is an affiliation with the bank-owned, empire-building, terrorist-inventing and chasing establishment "flunkies!"
Exactly! Except it was no phenomenon, it was a tactic.
to secure grass roots support just before the next election.

also nice to see Independent news sources covering the movement
yes absolutely
it is so refreshing to see how others see us.
and the person who wrote this article might be actually reading daily paul - this is my gut feeling.

Great summary I think,
well written. I think WE have become the little engine that could. We have this huge mountain ahead of us but as long as we are focused on getting up that damn mountain and educating the public and exposing the propagandists we might have a chance. We are the ENGINE that drives LIBERTY, all aboard! LOL

Good point

Not Quite Accurate
Tea Parties have been held every year on April 15, for decades, all over the country, at post offices, by Libertarian Party activists opposed to the income tax.

Thanks, article gives a fair assessment
..the same questions we have been discussing about the Tea Party, GOP and the RP Liberty movement.
And at least they acknowledged the 2007 RP Tea Party!
