POLITICO: Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison Is At Risk of Finishing Third
POLITICO: Medina closing on
By JOSH KRAUSHAAR | 2/9/10 12:51 PM EST
Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is at risk of finishing third in next month's Republican gubernatorial primary, according to a Public Policy Polling survey that shows tea party favorite Debra Medina rapidly gaining ground on Hutchison and incumbent Gov. Rick Perry.
Perry leads Hutchison by 11 points in the poll, 39 percent to 28 percent, but Medina registers nearly a quarter of the primary vote, drawing 24 percent. The numbers are similar to a Rasmussen Reports survey that showed Perry with a 44 percent to 29 percent lead over Hutchison last week, with Medina's vote growing to 16 percent.
While Perry and Hutchison have spent millions on their campaigns to date, the under-funded Medina has relied on two strong televised debate performances to draw attention to her insurgent bid. A former volunteer for Texas Rep. Ron Paul's presidential campaign, Medina has presented herself as an outsider and down-the-line conservative.

Good point
Never trust Diebold!
I find these polls to be very bogus.
Not one vote for has been cast in the state of Texas.Debra is going to win this by 70%.With indepents ,democrats ALL voting on the same ballot.Debra can win this outright.
Delegates Choose the Nominees
Voters only get to vote once they are chosen.
After the primary, the delegates will decide.
I fully expect pressure to be exerted on Hutchinson or Perry to drop out and endorse the other.

There is something BIG happening in Texas that I don't believe you guys have covered. In the Texas governor's race Tea Party insurgent Debra Medina has vaulted from 9% to 12% to 16% to now 24% (the latest PPP voter survey) and will surely overtake Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson and force a Medina/Perry runoff in the GOP primary.
An interesting dynamic: Palin has recently stumped for Perry, a big progressive, and now faces a difficult choice. Will she stick with Perry, bow out, or switch Ghandi-like in mid-stream to support small-government constitutionalist Medina? GBS should explore this development on air.

Agreed regarding encouraging national coverage
And, we need to suggest other language besides "insurgent" which has negative associations with Al Queda activities in Iraq and Afghanistan. Call it "grass roots" campaign or "dark horse" bid, anything but insurgent.
