The Tea Party Primer: What You Need to Know

The Republican political machine is trying desperately to co-opt the Liberty message which was so well articulated and defined by Ron Paul during the 2008 elections.
The problem has been that Dr. Paul has received such limited coverage and has been associated with radical elements by the main stream media that his message has been muted and often distorted. While many Americans may hunger for freedom and liberty, most have yet to wean themselves from the major news outlets who are bought out by mega corporations and produce very little that is even remotely "fair and balanced".
Most of the conservatives who attend the tea party conventions are upset about the financial condition of our nation and the current administration's lucrative spending. They are also upset about government encroachment which was exemplified by the take overs of the auto industry, banking institutions and health care. However, the major portion of the tea partiers have been unable to extricate themselves from the two-party government structure so entrenched in the fabric of American politics.
One reason for this difficulty goes back to the media. As Americans became disgruntled with politics and made their voices heard, Fox news tapped into this dysphoria. While the tea party movement was already in full steam, Hannity, O'Reilly and Beck jumped on the bandwagon and added their voices to the mix. They supported the protests so strongly that other networks began accusing Fox news of orchestrating the movement, an accusation that Fox was more than happy to embrace.
The result of this deliberate infiltration has been that the neo-conservative, status quo, big government, Republican agenda continues in the tea party movement unabated ...

I'm glad that Dr. Paul has always made a distinction between the Ron Paul Revolution/ Liberty movement and the Tea Parties. I could see right away that many (but not ALL ) of them are just angry anti-Obama, neo-cons with no real political integrity of principles.

Well said...Infiltration is the exact word I use to describe it.
When Palin spewed her war-mongering words the other day any TRUE Tea Party people would have stood up and booed her out of the room--Instead she got a standing ovation.

I'm glad you are awake
But, and I don't mean to offend you, we need to figure out what took you and many thousands of other people so long to discover it. I knew at the first Tea Party when half of the people had anti-Obama signs and associated health care with Naziism. (And the Glen Beck shirts made me gag). Any time I or many others on DP tried to warn about the co-opting, the obvious astroturfing, or just reasoning based on history and the propaganda techniques of FOX News, we were lambasted and told that this was the only way to wake up more people.
Possibly - and hopefully there have been some Neocon Tea Partiers turned towards the light. But, I think it is important to recognize the techniques used and the "triggers" used to sucker true freedom lovers into a fake movement for more federal power.
It's a new awakening! Feels like three years ago.

I saw it from the beginning, too
We went to a tea party and were in the parking lot with a Ron Paul sign when a man came up and gruffly informed us that we weren't allowed to bring it. It was against "the rules." (Who made the rules?) Tellingly, the coordinator for the tea party in the town where we live each summer also issued the same "no political affiliation signs" edict. I think that was a top-down order from the big money founders of the movement. That's a bad sign right there.

I've been told that other tea parties have been more Ron Paul-ish, and maybe that's why some people gave them a chance. I think the tea party movement has shown its true colors by now, though. I'll be relieved if the Ron Paul people stop pressuring each other to join the tea-o-cons.
