9/11 TRUTH = POLITICAL DEATH
I am highly skeptical of everything our government does, and I wouldn't put it past a government to stage a terrorist attack to increase its own power. However, I don't think the US government is that far gone, and I remain unconvinced by the 9/11 Truth evidence. More importantly, this incident with Debra Medina proves that any association with 9/11 truth is political death. Even if the 9/11 Truthers are correct, realistically, it will be virtually impossible to convert the country on this issue. It's not going to happen. What is happening is that the liberty movement is suffering to the extent that it is associated with 9/11 Truthers.
I know that there are many sincere people who believe in it, and I respect your opinion, but even if you're right, we're better off dropping it and focusing on the areas where we are achieving success. Liberty is popular, 9/11 Truth isn't. If we elect enough liberty candidates, we can be assured that our government won't stage an attack on the people. That's our best chance of improving things. Please abandon the 9/11 Truth argument.

Ron Paul is NOT A TRUTHER. Medina is NOT A TRUTHER.
But a lot of truthers sure as heck support Ron Paul and Medina. The reason is simple: whether politicians are short sighted idiots that cause problems on accident (average American viewpoint) *OR* far sighted geniuses that cause problems on purpose (truther viewpoint), the SOLUTION is the same: Cut spending, reduce the power of those turkeys, return to the letter of the Constitution.
Talking 911 at best only stays in the problem. It offers no solution. At worst it's poison. Opponents know this and will use it like a poisoned arrow, every time. And it KILLS the campaign, by association.
Then the Truthers defend themselves by posting a whole bunch of even more outrageous stuff on pages of candidates who are not truthers.
What? How dare you call this outrageous? Simple, it's not topical to the candidate.
It's off subject and a little bit like dealing with a religous cult, because everything comes back to it. I don't post Jehovah's Witness propaganda on Bill boards and put those in someone else's yard without their consent.

Now is alcoholics anonymous 'true', and does working the 12 steps save a drunk? Yes. Ask Glenn Beck. But even he doesn't open up with that (usually) when talking about...whatever. And most AA's know it's not a topic to bring up at a Wedding Recital, even if the Father in Law wants to get rip roaring drunk.
Libertarian minded people, like Ron Paul or Medina, will defend the right of people to think and believe anything. Goes with the territory. That's part of their appeal. Medina was defending other people the right to have opinions and it's been smeared as to being hers. And Rick Perry tore her to pieces on it. Don't help him.

It is truly frightening what is happening to gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina. Only in America or medieval Spain would “not having a position” mean “having a position.”
Are we now going to make it a requirement for people to profess beliefs in certain official government narratives about empirical events before they are allowed to engage in public service? What about government workers?
Should a teacher be allowed to teach our children if she does not believe that the Gulf of Tonkin incident took place or that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? (Oh wait. Maybe these are bad examples)

I was recently
at a dinner part and the subject of 9/11 came up. One big-mouthed woman in particular made it clear that any questioning of the government's explanation was heresy and she assumed everyone listening to her agreed.
Wrong.
I quietly asked a few "what about..." questions and she rabidly referred to me as a conspiracy theorist and tauntingly asked if we should now discuss the Kennedy Asassination.
I shut my mouth and the conversation moved on to some other inocuous subject she was also an expert on.
As the evening progressed she quietly turned to me and said, "I agree that we should question everything but the questions 9/11 bring up and the possible answers are just to hard to deal with."
And that, dear folks, is why the subject of 9/11 is taboo. It is simply too overwhelming for most people to contemplate. TPTB know this and easily quash any dissidence regarding the who, what and why of what really happened.

I run into it on the subject in particular. And related ones.
I have spoken with two PhD's who express no interest in pursuit of ideas that clearly fall within the scope of their specialized professional knowledge, despite all discussion.
This troubles me greatly, as the emotional aversion to the possibility that the story they have been fed is not on the level is simply too uncomfortable to even contemplate.
This is NOT a rational response. This is what we are dealing with here, people.
The people alienated by the 911-Truth concept are the 80% of the population who are sitting on the fence. They are the ones that we are working to convince, not alienate.

Some of these are likely true, some of these are likely false. With the exception of Pearl Harbor, the rest would be speculation and if you were to base your public statements on speculation, you will be labeled a kook and any free thinking objectivist would not want you in office.

You address that issue separately from the tranparency issue. Simply state, "based on the evidence I do not believe this or I do not believe that occurred.

Yes. This is an issue that sends any political candidate right to the back of the line. However, we can create our own line. We don’t need theirs. You can never beat collectivism with collectivism…. You can only do it through individualism. You can only beat it by setting up a foundation for free market principles to wake up the people around you. Whether he is correct is a different matter. So that leaves two choices - be the change you want, and act as if it weren't true, or accept his statement grudgingly, and behave accordingly. The first path may be good over the long run,. but short term will be painful - as we have observed over and over again. The second leaves you felling corrupt and unsatisfied, even if you a re more succesful.
Perhaps there is a third way, to be expedient sometimes, and stick to your guns other times. Now, judging the right times for each is the difficult part.

An overwhelming majority of Americans
(84%) do not buy the official version of what happened on 9/11. Are they all "truthers"? No, they simply have reasonable suspicion that their government is hiding things about what happened on that day, which is what I heard Debra Medina articulating on Glenn Beck's radio show.
Time will tell, and soon, if Medina's agreement with a definite majority of voters on this issue translates into more or less support at the polls.
