Weekend Reflection: Operation Northwoods
For those of you who haven't heard of it, here is something to think about over the weekend.
From Wikipedia:
Operation Northwoods, or Northwoods, was a false-flag plan that originated within the United States government in 1962. The plan called for Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or other operatives to commit genuine acts of terrorism in U.S. cities and elsewhere. These acts of terrorism were to be blamed on Cuba in order to create public support for a war against that nation, which had recently become communist under Fidel Castro. One part of the Operation Northwoods plan was to "develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington."
Operation Northwoods is especially notable in that it included proposals for hijackings and bombings followed by the introduction of phony evidence that would implicate a foreign government.
The plan stated:
"The desired resultant from the execution of this plan would be to place the United States in the apparent position of suffering defensible grievances from a rash and irresponsible government of Cuba and to develop an international image of a Cuban threat to peace in the Western Hemisphere."

Code named Operation Northwoods, the plan, which had the written approval of the Chairman and every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called for innocent people to be shot on American streets; for boats carrying refugees fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas; for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving Lemnitzer and his cabal the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war.

In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

It's true that governments
It's true that governments sometimes come up with evil conspiracies, yes. There are some things worth mentioning about this one, however. The plan was rejected immediately and the person who proposed it was demoted. Also, most of the ideas mentioned in the report include staged events that will cause terror while avoiding or minimizing actual casualties (such as sinking ships with no sailors on board and having fake funerals).
Yes, Operation Northwoods is terrible and governments are capable of deadly conspiracies. Does that mean 9/11 was a government conspiracy, no. They could have done something as effective in a way that was much easier to conceal without killing so many of our own citizens. And it bears repeating: If they are capable and willing to do 9/11, then why wouldn't they have simply planted WMDs?

It's so over the top. Can't you see that? Who would have the nerve to do that besides a suicide terrorist? And why? Just for better profits for the defense industry? Or just so neocons could implement their preferred foreign policy? Come on. It's not worth it. Consider risk versus reward. What if they got caught? They'd be the most hated people on the planet and they'd be executed without a doubt. They'd have to be totally insane to do that. It wouldn't be carried out by a large group of people in positions of power. No way. By suicide terrorists with nothing to lose, yes.

Answer me this: If they would set up Pearl Harbor to happen to get the US involved in WW2, why is it so hard to wrap your head around the possibility that they would manipulate events like 911?

I have my doubts about
I have my doubts about Roosevelt knowing about the Pearl Harbor attack or that he intentionally provoked it. But even if you assume that it's true, it's still in a different league. Provoking another country until they do something that will start a war is typical foreign policy. It's awful, I agree. But that's quite a bit different than a vast conspiracy of powerful people directly carrying out a mass murder of their own people.
The elites are people too. Some are bad, some are good. They're not all-powerful, and I suspect that a lot of them have many of the same values as you or me.
Do you think the CIA would ever develop a "heart attack gun"?
People with less than $100 billion are sub-human. Sometimes it's cute to watch them flounder around, but they're obviously lacking in some basic human skills if they can't even figure out a way to make a few million bucks a year. True elites have none of the same values as us chattle.
I'm starting to wonder if you are actually open-minded or if you've already decided your positions.

I seem to remember something about Castro like Bin Laden was a CIA asset before he became a Dictator for Cuba and something about "The school of the Americas" I believe it was a John Pilger documentary on a lot of the south American countries and how the US Government and big Corps were going there and Taking out elected officials and putting in Dictators. This is one of the MOST crucial pieces of evidence for
government complicity.
If they can drop an A bomb and kill 10's of thousands in an instant, I don't think life is very precious to them.

Yes, it would have been a terrible thing and it does make one think that if the government was capable of doing something like this, then why not other incaculable horrible things?
Granted, but the bottom line was that Operation NorthWoods was drafted and then presented to the White House AND WAS NEVER APPROVED!! IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! IT WAS ONLY A PLAN, an evil one at that, but it was never approved.
