Video: Oath-Keeper Founder Stewart Rhodes on FOX O'Reilly 2/18
Submitted by Lacandy on Fri, 02/19/2010 - 22:02
Thanks Cypress for the video link
Oath Keeper Stewart Rhodes will appear on Bill O'Reilly's show Thursday night at 5pm & 8pm, Feb.18. prompted by a New York Times article erroneously linking Oath Keepers to militias!
O'Reilly had Southern Poverty Law Center's Mark Potok on tonight (Wednesday) struggling to make a connection between Oath Keepers and militias...and failing miserably!!
This could be a monumental event for Oath Keepers!!
Our miltary, law enforcement, and ELECTED OFFICIALS need to HONOR THEIR OATH TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION!!!

Nothing new
This thing looks good for me. Thanks

How can the Oathkeepers be
How can the Oathkeepers be construed as a "hate group"? Who do they hate?
I would consider the Southern Poverty Law Center a hate group. They are attempting to demonize a patriotic organization composed of military, law enforcement and fire fighters who take an oath to obey the Constitution, and will not obey orders that are contrary to the Constitution. They are trying to cause fear about a fine group like this.
Our nations premier hate group, the Department of Homeland Terrorism is setting the example by targeting returning Iraqi veterans as "potential terrorists". As a former Iraqi veteran, I am here to tell you that the Department of Homeland Terrorism is more of a threat to your freedoms that Iraqi veterans.
Military veterans, law enforcement officers and fire fighters protect the nation and the people. Hate groups seek to demonize anyone who exposes the agenda of people who are opposed to our form of government. Anyone, or any group that thinks people in positions of authority who respect the Constitution, and pledge not to violate the Rights of the American people are dangerous, needs to be watched.

Excellent piece.
Thank you!
Katrina and Martial Law
There is no excuse for disarming everyday American citizens even after Katrina. However, I was in the Louisiana Army National Guard when they called me up for Katrina. I have to tell you, for the servicemen this was no picnic. I feel like I have could have done more as far as rescuing people out there, but the governor sent us out there with NO WEAPONS. It wasn't until after the flood (a few days later) until I got to go back to Slidell and get armed. I was driving through 4-6 ft of flooded waters all in the metairie/kenner area with the only vehicle capable of rescuing people, and when the cries for help came, we had no means to defend ourselves or our vehicle and no means to communicate. The higher ranked individual told me not to stop to help and I listened. Then, maybe a week or two later, when the floods subsided and people started coming back home, we had people coming up to us saying, "how could you let them do this?" The people after Katrina had went in their houses and stolen everything of value, that was the biggest complaint we received.
I am completely Libertarian, and NOT a fan of O'Reilly and I know we should not have those people taking weapons door to door, I really think that was more isolated than anything. I would not have done it unless they appeared dangerous...
I like the Oath Keepers and what they stand for, but PLEASE don't try to simplify the aftermath of Katrina, because it was far too complex.
I swear I have heard this interview before
bad case of Déjà vu? Or is this vid old or has an almost identical interview with stewart rhodes appeared elsewhere?
I knew how the interview would go before it began.
after this interview
Oath Keepers membership is rising like crazy!!!

God Bless Oathkeepers and Stuart Rhodes!!

Whatever BO supposedly represents, let's call it what it really is: institutionalized cowardice.
Classic O'Reilly
What a tool...
Man, Stewart Rhodes is great
This guy is a straight-shooter. Doesn't duck questions like Medina...
Just finished...
Man Rhodes was dominant. He also did a kick ass job when he was on Hardball a few months back.
I give Rhodes an A. He would
I give Rhodes an A. He would have had an A+ if he had explained that its ok to send in riot police if the rioters are violating other people's property rights.
Ventura 2012
Yes,according to O`Reilly the weather trumps our Constitution.
What would the "scumbeck" O`Reilly have to say about global warming`s effect on our Constitution?
"Since 1789 the only government on Earth that has the power to crush the American people`s liberties across the board is the government of the United States"
Robert Higgs
Nice way to put
it, lol.
O'Reilly looked -acted like he was drugged
He certainly wasn't himself. He actually carried on a fairly normal conversation.
Maybe they're getting skittish about their attacks backfiring (a la Medina). Rick Perry endorser, Sarah Palin, is sinking in the polls like a rock. The more people hear her, the more they know they don't want to have to listen to her for 4 years.
This O'Reilly episode was very strange. I keep wondering why? Do you suppose they didn't want to rouse emotions one way or the other, making it a forgettable experience for viewers? That's what I think.
They're changing tactics. It's a new game out there.
Good news about Palin sinking
Good news about Palin sinking in the polls! Just keep her talking and she'll sink herself.

Listen to his wording: "Last
Listen to his wording: "Last night we interviewed ... and he spotlighted a right wing group ... that HE feels may become dangerous." (With "SPLC / Tracking Hate Groups" as a background logo.)
I bet SPLC guy sprang the accusation on them and Bill thought he had to bring an Oath Keepers spokesman on to keep up the "fair and balanced" reputation. But he believed the lefty's characterization and didn't do enough homework to realize what the organization was about. He tried to wing it and got blindsided.

O'Reilly Was Surprisingly Easy on Him
Yeah, O'Reilly was kind of a jerk, but not nearly as bad as I've seen him on many occasions. He let Mr. Rhodes speak for the most part. By the way, Mr Rhodes is THE BEST person for this position, because he's ALWAYS calm as a cucumber in interviews. If he would allow the interviewers to agitate him (which is what they usually try to do), it would look really bad for the Oath Keepers. He articulates their argument very well.
Bill, Bill, Bill
He talks a big, scary game, but in the end, I don't think he wants the Oath Keepers mad at him.
Think about it. Would you?
Heck no! And Bill was up
Heck no! And Bill was up against a military man, Yale constitutional lawyer -
Debbie
Don't agree
I think he knows he has a lot of ex-military and military families in his audience and, if he did his usual sledgehammer act, they'd all be sending their $30 off to Oathkeeprs.
Keeping the show emotionally low keyed was the best way out of a situation that had all the potential to blow up in his face.
It was good exposure for Oathkeepers, but it wasn't a homerun.
As for blowing up in his
As for blowing up in his face: He's just seen how Glen Beck's hatchet job on Debra Medina affected THAT show. B-)
Bill may have a different cultural foundation than we do. But he's not dumb.

"a matter of interpretation"
There is no matter of interpretation it means what is says dagnabbit.
You know what pisses me off the most of all today, that they are stealing the very definitions of words and phrases to complete their plunder of our natural rights.
*May the only ones to touch your junk, be the ones you want to touch your junk.*
They've been doing that for
They've been doing that for decades or even centuries.
"Regulate" for instance. Or "Militia". Or "Welfare".
That's why historiography - in education and in jurisprudence - is so important. You have to read the words according to the definitions in use when they were written.
Language drift is IMHO the only thing that makes it non-trivial to just read and understand the Constitution: There are a few places where words or phrases have drifted (deliberately been made to drift?) from how the founders used them.
