The Underground History Of American Education - Incredible Book Online!!!

My good friend Georgiana recommended this extraordinary book by John Taylor Gatto. A great one for the Liberty/Constitution movement.

Prologue

The shocking possibility that dumb people don’t exist in sufficient numbers to warrant the millions of careers devoted to tending them will seem incredible to you. Yet that is my central proposition: the mass dumbness which justifies official schooling first had to be dreamed of; it isn’t real.

Chapter One
The Way It Used To Be

Our official assumptions about the nature of modern childhood are dead wrong. Children allowed to take responsibility and given a serious part in the larger world are always superior to those merely permitted to play and be passive. At the age of twelve, Admiral Farragut got his first command. I was in fifth grade when I learned of this. Had Farragut gone to my school he would have been in seventh.

Chapter Two
An Angry Look At Modern Schooling

The secret of American schooling is that it doesn’t teach the way children learn and it isn’t supposed to. It took seven years of reading and reflection to finally figure out that mass schooling of the young by force was a creation of the four great coal powers of the nineteenth century. Nearly one hundred years later, on April 11, 1933, Max Mason, president of the Rockefeller Foundation, announced to insiders that a comprehensive national program was underway to allow, in Mason’s words, “the control of human behavior.”

BUMP....education should always...

go to the top...I've been listening to interviews with Gatto, and who could demand more respect that he (or she) who demands freedom of knowledge, wisdom and experience. I wish we could all be so lucky as to walk across Gatto's path.

A lttle bump to

restore American education!

This is my ALL time favorite book!!! And I read ALOT!

I saw an interview with John Taylor Gatto when I was first awakening to the 'real' world about 2 years ago. (thanks again RP!) I was instantly hooked! I searched out everything on the net I could find about him and was only left wanting MORE!

I ordered the book through the library and had to wait about 5 months to get it because so many people had a hold on it. When I finally got it I thought OMG, this thing is huge! Seriously, like a phone book! Very intimidating! Even though I'm an avid reader, I thought 'Jeez I hope I can finish it before it must be returned. I don't want to wait another 5 months!' My worry was pointless as I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!!

This book is a must for anyone who wants to understand the education problem we are facing! I was considering home school for my son, but was a little scared to make that leap... Thank you Mr. Gatto, from the bottom of my heart! Jump frog jump!

Bump

One of the best books I've ever read

Great video interview

This is with Charlotte Thompson Iserbyte. Wrote the deliberate Dumbing Down Of America.

I love Charlotte Iserbyte.

She is a devoted and committed American in freeing our education system and an advocate for bringing education back to the local levels where it belongs.

Wonderful book

everyone should read it

Gatto is one of my heroes

I was reading Dumbing Us Down just yesterday.

He said on Alex Jones that he's a Ron Paul fan and was happy to learn that he and RP are not only from the same area but were born in the same year.

Just wondering

When was Gatto on Alex Jones? Have you giot an archive date?

He was on Alex Jones a few times

I spent a few minutes trying to locate the interview I refer to above on youtube...but I found another video instead.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1kgSlLawyQ

I still haven't found the one where Gatto begins with something like, "Hello Alex...and Ron Paul all the way, eh?"

If I find it, I'll post it.

I'll give this a little bump so you might

want to know what this is about.

Gatto's works are powerfully

empowering!

You know, I can't wait to read this entire

book.

Its one of those books that are completely coherent just like Dr.Paul's speeches!
