CBS calls Ron Paul a "big spender"
The totally contorted logic to dismiss Ron Paul's CPAC victory is just astonishing.
A CBS article claims that because Ron Paul is "a dove on the War", that this makes him a "big spender" and therefore not a conservative (-WTF?). Check it out....
Paul’s victory in the CPAC 2010 presidential straw poll only serves to immediately diminish the impact that CPAC could have on providing conservatives with some direction on who some of our future national leaders might be. Ron Paul certainly won’t be one of them. I’m not saying that to be critical, it’s just a fact.
More and more average Americans are getting involved in the political process through the Tea Party Patriots and other movements. They are real people, with real lives and most have never been involved in the political process beyond voting.
The more they learn about Ron Paul, the less he will appeal to him. His dovish stance on the war on terror and his support for earmarking (the gateway drug to huge spending) won’t wear well with newly inspired activists worried about federal spending and the debt. Either you are a fiscal conservative, or you’re not. Unfortunately, Ron Paul is not at the most basic level.
And this is written by a guy who claims that he supposedly voted for Ron Paul in 1988. They are really throwing the kitchen sink at Ron Paul these days over CPAC.
Can you imagine just will happen if he wins Iowa in 2012? Let's make that happen, and really watch them squirm!!

I'm wondering why Dr. Paul doesn't spread the earmarks
out more among the populace? I don't have a problem with earmarks for the same reason Dr. Paul doesn't. If you don't earmark it the President gets to use the money. But what gets people upset is the large earmarks that go to a single project that appears to be pork. For example, I remember there was a controversy about Dr. Paul earmarking a huge amount of money for shrimp fisheries. Seems like if you spread the money around more, there would be less controversy. It would also make more sense from a fairness perspective of giving the citizens their money back, rather just a few people getting large sums. Maybe it's just too laborious to come up with thousands of recipients?

OH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE!!!!
ask him this in question form in the next debate.
I can see it now. "ron paul, how can you claim to be a conservative when you support earmarks" says some stooge in a condescending voice.
Ron Paul just bust out laughing for a few seconds and takes 15 seconds to explain how things really works and to point out he has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
We need an education on earmarks.
Earmarks are not the "Evil" that so many make them out to be.
Is it evil for someone opposed to social security to try to get back some when he turns 65?
Is it evil for a poor person to try to get back some on his tax return when he has been overtaxed out the wazoo?
So it is with earmarks. The money is going to be spent...The Congress has already appropriated x amount of money...the question is, "Who will determine how to spend x amount? Some beuracracy? Or try to get some sent back home...which the federal govt STOLE in the first place????
Again, the money of x amount ($100 mil, $10 bil, hoever much amount) is ALREADY appropriated a certain amount to spend...earmarks do NOT tack on any extra money to be spent!! It is a part of a huge spending bill.
The Author, Sean Noble,
just proved himself to be a fool. Not only are his conclusions just plain false, but his logic and research are lacking to say the least. Ron Paul not a fiscal conservative? Yeah right.
Noble uses pronouns so creatively that you have to read his paragraphs over again, like you're doing a crossword puzzle, to try to figure out who the pronouns represent; as in, "The more they learn about Ron Paul, the less he will appeal to him."
Noble seems to be just another reporter who doesn't know how to think or write.

There must be some other guy named Ron Paul, running around, spending money..acting kooky..
Have we looked into this?
some other guy, with the same name..Doing all the stuff that we know the real Ron Paul is NOT doing..LOL
The media may have hired him, just to make them honest.
CBS: Hi, Ron Paul?
This is CBS...How would you like to earn a living, by spending large amounts of money, and acting kooky at the same time?
Other guy named Ron Paul:

This was one of the most
This was one of the most inane, illogical pieces of crap I've ever read in my life. This guy gave a stupider answer than Miss South Carolina.
Nice try... but too many
Nice try... but too many people are waking up to the real truth of things in Washington and the false media spin that is corporate in origin that permeates the airwaves... especially all the hit pieces that have come out since Paul's stunning victory at CPAC.
I hope so
It's insulting that they think we don't know any better and are going to read their garbage voluntarily after stunts like this.
Earmarking probably has traction
simply because most people don't know what it is.
Just explain it and show that all candidates earmark.
This would be funny
if it weren't so sad!
This message is pro-war, and pro-drug war in between the lines.
Much of what the war has generated in income can be generated through a peaceful lift on cannabis prohibition.
But instead of informing the reader of this, the author would rather support the violent means of war for money, and slide in the “gateway drug” term to utilize his position on cannabis… well, not his position but rather the position of his superiors who pay him to write this.
Hopefully he is not Christian, because it would be unfortunate for him to find out that even heretics go to hell.
The role of a farmer, in Fukuoka's mind, is an observer, not an intervener, of the natural order in his/her particular landscape. How is that any different than Hayek in regards to Economics?
Earmarks
The article seems to be saying that when Paul submits requests for money for his constituents, that is a bad thing. So what if he does. How the hell else is he suppose to get some tax money returned to his people. Money in the federal budget that is not designated to a specific purpose, like military funding, is up for grabs isn't it?
Ron says and I agree
Every stinkin' thing should be earmarked so it can be kept track of. No more govt' waste.
AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE
I feel dirty after reading that....
There has been an assault for nearly 48 hours...Quickly! The sheeple are waking. We must regain control of their minds! Let's alienate the right, the left, the middle! Ron Paul is dovish, he doesn't spend enough, he spends too much, he is an earmarking big spender, he's soft on war, he's a kook! We're all kooks! He may just be Lucifer himself! We may all be Lucifer!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!! Do not stop the spin until we have regained control!!!!!

Thursday - War All The Time
Actually....
The attacks started a few weeks ago. All of a sudden like a coordinated chorus from both the left and the right.
For somebody they claim to be insignificant with no real chance in hell of ever winning the republican nomination, much less the presidency, why are they spending so much time and planning in attacking him? Nearly a full two years before the campaigns!
They must be secretly seriously worried about him toppling Romney as the annointed Republican nominee. And they are. Therefore the coordinated sudden attacks.
It's time for battle. Let the games begin...
:D

Romney is not the annointd
Romney is not the annointd Pub nominee...he's the annointed smoke screen for the real nominee: Jeb Bush, Palin, or someone we really haven't heard from.
It's my
opinion, then, that what earmarking REALLY is needs to be explained over and over again to everyday people...

The way I heard Dr. Paul
describe them is that they simply "designate" where the money is to go. Without earmarks, the money is going to go to places that will benefit some politician, not the people or state it is supposed to go to. Is that about right?
That is
basically my understanding...

The earmarked money is in the budget
Earmarks allow the Congressmen to allocate the money on their political whims. If they do not earmark the money the Executive branch chooses how it is spent.
So the money is budgeted, if the budget passes it will be spent, the question is who spends it. The many Congressmen or the Executive.
Dr. Paul votes against the budget if it doesn't balance.
The question is why do Democrats and Republicans both earmark funds for pork barrel spending. Why have both parties accepted distribution of debt and redistribution of wealth as their methods of operation? Neither party can claim fiscally conservative budgeting.
"Tax and spend" and "Borrow and Spend" for the benefit of the politically connected is not conservative behavior.
A balanced budget that pays down the debt will apportions the benefits equally, for every one.
Free includes debt-free!
Hmmm
You can't pay down the debt. Think about how it works. When you pay off the debt, the money disappears. But you still paid the interest, therefore it's impossible to pay off the national debt under this corrupt system.

I've been wanting to not bring it up, but your signature quote, "This country began as a tax revolt" isn't really true.
The British had slashed taxes to nearly nothing. But they substituted them with granting exclusive distribution rights in the colonies to British corporations. Sam Adams was a prominent tea seller in Boston and he was about to be ruined. This situation is precisely what caused Sam Adams to get riled up and gather up folks and plan the Boston Tea Party.
The comparable analog today would be the giant corporations using foreign slave labor to lower prices to the point where it is pushing local and mom and pop manufacturers and retailers out of business.
Whew! Now I feel better now that I got that out.
:)
