NPR Hatchet Job on Ron Paul Today, Respond
David Weigel interview by Terry Gross seems aimed at identifying Ron Paul with Glenn Beck to NPR's mostly liberal listeners. Corporatist NPR must be worried the Revolution is spreading. "Most of the things Beck said in his speech are things that Ron Paul would say" is one of Weigel's lines. Also takes a dismissive tone toward End the Fed. As always, however, it is difficult to report Ron's positions without knowing that some liberal heads are out there nodding "what's wrong with that?" I'd say it's time to light up the NPR comments on the story with clarifications, Ron Paul stands for the Constitution, civil liberties that your Obama does not, is against the wars and Afghanistan. The time is ripe to go for those who voted for Obama mostly because they thought he would end the wars and restore civil liberties. They are taking pains to mix Ron up with the hateful Beck. Big chance here, I think. Charge!

Paul is not Beck
Ron Paul is a dedicated constitutionalist. Beck is an unprincipled entertainer who will say whatever he feels like saying at the time whether it fits with his principles or not. They should not be equated.

Conservative Tim Graney Challenges 20-Year Incumbent Congressman Ron Paul in Texas District 14

As Parcbench readers know, I’ve recently spent a great deal of time discussing the foreign policy folly of Congressman Ron Paul and his enthusiastic supporters. With the Tea Party Movement in full swing during this critical mid-term election year, it is absolutely essential to remain vigilant about extremists on both sides – especially if they are seeking higher office. But it’s not enough to simply call out the 20-year incumbent congressman on his dangerous isolationism and blame-America-first tendencies, particularly when there is an excellent primary challenger in Texas CD-14, “flying low under the radar” in a bid to unseat him.
After “meeting” Tim Graney on Facebook and interviewing him over the phone, I am pleased to report that if residents of Texas CD-14 are seeking an alternative to Paul – and a congressman who will actually listen to their concerns and represent them in Washington, D.C., Tim Graney is their man.
What prompted you to take on a 20-year incumbent in a primary race?
Simply put, I love our great country and I do not like the direction it is heading in. I am not a career politician; I am a “geek” with a B.S. in Computer Science who ran my own tech development and consulting company for years. My decision to run for congress has been simmering for a while. About four years ago, I got involved in local politics in Katy, Texas, where my only choices were county or school board. I got involved in the latter, as I have always been proud of the fact that Katy is well-known for its excellent school system.
But although Katy and the entire state of Texas are doing pretty well, I am alarmed by what is going on nationally. There are some very serious issues facing our country, and I believe being a congressional representative is a 24/7 job, just as being a small business owner is a 24/7 job. My district deserves a congressman who will spend his time listening to their concerns, and representing them in Washington – not gallivanting around the country making speeches and promoting his own agenda.
Let’s talk about Congressman Paul for minute. What differentiates you from him?
There are two major areas where Congressman Paul and I are diametrically opposed – his foreign policy and his ultra-libertarian views. Post 9/11, Ron Paul had to be pressured by members of his staff to support the invasion of Afghanistan – a country harboring terrorists. Going in there was the right thing to do for the sake of American security, but our representative had to be dragged into it. Unlike Paul, I support a robust foreign policy and a strong military to back it up. I also support a military presence around the world, as we’ve had in places like Germany. This is crucial in Afghanistan and Iraq, another effort I supported, based on the evidence we had at the time. If you recall, even Colin Powell was fully confident about taking out Saddam Hussein. Powell may have made the wrong choice for President, but I still respect his leadership and foreign affairs knowledge from his years as a military leader.
And to ensure these nations never again harbor Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups, we need a military presence for years to come. From a moral standpoint,

What a hack job; trying to tie warmongering clown Glenn Beck with non-interventionist Ron Paul. While Glenn Beck has spent his life as a shock jock clown in the most vulgar manner, Dr. Ron Paul has spent his life as an upstanding Medical Doctor and uncompromising (unbuyable) congressman.
It is painfully obvious that Glenn Beck's job is to neutralize the anger people feel. Pay attention to how he starts by pointing things out and seeming to be outraged and then saying that in reality it is no big deal.
People, in reality there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans, both parties have the same policies. Both are big government warmongers who are paid by the bankers to keep up their profits.
Both support wars, the private for profit Federal Reserve, most everyone in Treasury and the Fed comes from Goldman Sacks and JP Morgan regardless of who is in power.
To compare rational Dr. Paul with that raving lunatic clown Glenn Beck is to have no sense of reality at all. Glenn Beck is all talk, tears and hyperbole, and Dr. Paul is rational discourse.
NPR, please stop using our tax money to keep Americans chasing their tails on this false Dems vs Reps idea. In reality it is America vs the Establishment in both parties.

If Neo-Progessive Radio is partially supported by all of our tax
dollars, why aren't they required to offer as many sides of the political spectrum as possible, without such obvious bias! I think that Dr. Paul should sponsor a bill to require them to be so or we will pull there funding out from under them all together! Forcing us ALL to pay for this crap is Unconstitutional in the first place!
I think I will write a comment on their site to let them know I'm on to them for such...perhaps, you all will join me?
"Liberty tastes sweetest to those who fight for it, and most bitter to those who work to deny it!"

I agree. We don't need to pay for this crap. But..
Furthermore the entire spectrum of airwaves belongs to the public. Let's expand it to all radio broadcasters who purport to do "news," that their "news" should offer opportunity for rebuttal. That way it's not spun as we're picking on NPR because it's liberal.

Great Point...But If We Have To Start Somewhere...
What better place to start than with the source that most Americans can identify with...the source that everyone knows is being supported by tax payer dollars...that source is NPR!
"Liberty tastes sweetest to those who fight for it, and most bitter to those who work to deny it!"

Why this matters more than other broadcasts.
Ron knows this cause needs progressives/liberals (we're hearing it in every interview today) who are interested in issues, and NPR attracts them by the bucketloads. This long interview did nothing to note the libertarian positions against the warfare state and encroachments upon civil liberties. It did everything to create small government beliefs with quackery.
The first 5 million supporters of Dr. Paul are 'early adopters.' The next 10 million will require a modified approach.
The biggest challenge to Ron
The biggest challenge to Ron Paul in the interview was that pre-1913 crashes were worse and more severe than those after. I am not articulate enough to argue 19th century American economics to challenge this argument but I'm sure someone here can give it a go. I would love to read it.
quicker recoveries
thats the key
They were deep and quick.
Pre-Fed Panics were deep and quick. Only a government is stupid enough to buy bad debts. Back then they didn't have the power to bailout so bankruptcy was quick.
I think read something here by Rothbard.

Mises.org also has Rothbard's 'Case against the Fed' online.
Heard Rothbard mention it in a video also.

GEAUX RON PAUL 2012.
Just....
made my own post about this. Could not believe it when I heard what ridiculous fools they were revealing themselves to be. Everything they said was slanted and rife with un-truths.
Every Terry Gross political interview
begins with the presumption that Obama-style statism is the proper default view, and anything that deviates from that is weird, uneducated, distasteful, and ill-intended.
No matter that Obama-think includes unlimited war, unlimited debt and plunder, unlimited state power. To even suspect that liberal ideas may be wrong is so beyond Gross' comprehension, dissenting ideas are simply disregarded, never researched or heard.
Just get someone to rephrase Terry's own views and reassure her that of course she has all truth on her side.
What's the big deal
Weigle is still wet behind the ears.
It's obvious he doesn't know his ass from his elbow about much of anything. His mother probably gave him notes for his little article.
He's irrelevant and mentally irregular.

I didn't see a comment page so I emailed this.
Unlike the warmonger Obama, Paul would have ended the undeclared Wars. He would have brought all the troops home from all 140 countries. What don't you like about liberty? Just think you hippies could all get to smoke your "refers" without fear of arrest. Obama is a hippocrate and you still support him? Shame.

I link Paul's and Nader's agreement on the 4 Principles since many NPR listeners respect Ralph Nader (and so do I.)
Who wants to stop the wars? Ron Paul. Who wants to "surge?" Barack Obama. Who has consistently and staunchly stood for civil liberties, against the Patriot Act, and against state secrets? Ron Paul. Who continues Bush era policies? Barack Obama.
David Weigel cleverly tries to erase the distinction between Tea-o-cons and Ron Paul Republicans by invoking Glenn Beck as someone Paul would agree with most of the time. This is grossly unfair to Paul. Beck has zero respect among Paul followers, and is considered a tool sent to appropriate this remarkable grass roots movement and to fold it safely into the GOP. But Paulers are smarter than that.
As for Weigel stating that Paul advocates policies, such as abolishing the Federal Reserve and the income tax, which would bring us back to 1912, does anyone really defend printing money in order to service our debt to China? I would be hard-pressed to find anyone either on the left or the right eager to do so. The federal income tax may be here to stay, but with the Dem Congress ignoring the demands of its own base to end the wars, it is any wonder that Americans are now targeting the pocketbook which allows ruinous wars to continue?

I spoke with Weigel at CPAC
I thought he was a good enough guy, he identified himself as a former writer for reason magazine.
he seemed to be familiar with our issues, too.
well, I learned my lesson for sure.
It seems like he went into CPAC and just got more ammunition for the establishment's culture wars.
At least Ron Paul got some airtime on NPR...
Better than being ignored?....

Promote ideas. The advantage is those who either love or hate a personality will not get caught in emotion and are better able to see the ideas for what they are.

Identification with Glenn Beck is a red flag and instant
non-starter for honest progressives who might begin considering a Liberty candidate who is strongly anti-intervention and pro-civil liberties. None of them, once educated, have much interest in defending something like the Federal Reserve. The tactic, as Weigel does, is to paint RP as someone who wants to bring America back to around "1912" as he says in the interview.
I believe this was Weigel's inside game, and it makes it more frightening that he knows better. I know many people who voted for Obummer who are now scratching their heads and asking 'what about these Paulies? They want to close military bases? Cool." The single social issue liberals you can forget.
They are trying to mash us in with the tea-o-cons, and thus complete the takeover of the brand. This will wind up alienating both the honest progressives and the independents that we need, IMHO.

The thought that Glenn Beck represents anyone other than....
....himself is laughable. Since Paul won it indicates a rift in the party? How? Why? When Romney won (by paying people to vote for him) it was hailed as divine decree. What a sicko Paul is for wanting to close down any of the 700 military bases in the 140 countries around the planet, according to this author.
What is so frightening about this article is that this individual is actually getting paid for his opinion.
